Played a 3DS today in Game today and just wanted to share my impression, first off the 3D works very well, it was very impressive. I had no eye strain and it barely takes any time to get used to. The system was also very solid, the layered structure was a bit unusual but I quite liked it, the circle pad feels comfortable and is miles better than the PSP's nub, the other buttons were pretty much the same. I played face raiders which was pretty fun but wouldn't hold many peoples interest for long unless there were new updates. One things is for sure, Nintendo have delivered, yet again.
I have in my hands, the Japanese 3DS set with Sangoku Musou 3D. It plays awesome. The 3D effect, is.. just something that your eyes should see for yourself! Just ask the guy who sat next to me in the metro, while on my way home! He was all like, "How could you have gotten your hands on this?" Well, I can't start to fathom how many games would be THAT much more awesome when played in 3D. I wasn't a believer for 3D in games, being a 2D gamer all my life. But, count me as a convert. [Although, I didn't really enjoy the game I bought, as I don't really fancy mindless button-mashing killing.] One thing to note is the abysmal battery life, it seems to last 3hrs on 3D mode and 8hrs odd on 2D mode, which will be solved by a battery pack, being sold by some company, I can't recall. The feel of the set is solid, the set I got is the black set, which has a graphite-like base. The buttons are a tad small for my fat fingers, but I welcome the addition of the thumbstick [it just fits so nicely with my thumb].
The battery pack is by Nyko, it looks pretty bulky though, i think ill just cut back on some things. Like lowering brightness, turning off wifi and 3D when theyre not needed. I heard theres a special power saving mode, is this true?
Good impressions man. BTW, here's the image of the Nyko battery, which according to them, doubles the battery life: It looks nice so far, and it's very cheap ($29 with the charger). I'm getting one for sure, although I'm not the type of person who finds 5 hour battery life to be a problem.
I can't seem to find that function anywhere? Perhaps due to the fact I can't read that much Japanese.. tried fiddling with them menu options, nothing fascinating happened. I'll get back to you when I do trigger an option that seems like the function for special power savings.
If everybody shuts off WiFi to save on battery, I guess StreetPass will be a bust. Or does it use something other then WiFi?
Only 9 days to go! I'm really excited. Here's a trailer for the Ubisoft line up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIWVvDCNsbU&feature=player_embedded Driver and Splinter Cell look decent and I'd advise you to get Rayman if you havent played it before but the others look pretty bad, Asphalt looks like a carbon copy of the iphone version
If anyone wants to try the 3DS right now, go to your local Best Buy. I played with it for a couple minutes, and the 3D definitely works. It was extremely blurry at max level for me, but a little bit above off was perfect. The graphics looked really crisp and it was like looking through a window. The game on display was Pilotwing, which was kinda boring, but it gives you an idea of what the 3D is like.
Similarly, in the UK most Game stores have a 3DS to play, simply ask the desk to see if they have one. Only for preorder customers though
I'm personally picking up Super Monkey Ball and Pilotwings (mainly because I heard it has a medal system, and it's supposed to show off the 3D immensely well), and I'm possibly picking up Ridge Racer and Super Street Fighter IV (still not sure if those would be worth it for me). But you should go against the grain. Pick up Steel Diver!
Devil Survivor 2 just got announced Not for 3DS though, but the original DS. Hope there's an "Overclocked" version with higher res graphs for 3DS.
Well that's a strange decision. Surely they should be shoving it in the faces of the people who haven't yet preordered.
While there are quite a few 3DS games that interest me, none of its launch titles are enough to warrant a buy at this time. I'll probably get the 3DS(Lite/i) eventually though...
Other than SSFIV the launch lineup is extremely weak..... pretty much like every single platform launch ever. Things get better in May with Dead or Alive Dimensions, which has been getting an extremely good reception, and in June, well, there's a little game called Ocarina of Time. I'll be getting the 3DS by then.
You're not getting it on day one? Given your interest in the 3DS, I thought you'd jump on it the moment its on sale.
I heard that about 10-15% (or so) of Japan's stock market crashed due to the disasters occurring over there. Do you think this might negatively affect Nintendo's dedication or consistency to put out many new features for the 3DS?
