Thanks for trying it.If you get a chance please let me know how it runs on the iPad pro 12.9 - im interested in its performance. And if you do like it, a rating or review is always appreciated
BrightRidge iPhone 6 / iPad Pro 12.9" / iPhone 7 Comparison Neko Michi has posted a wonderful video comparing BrightRidge on iPhone 6, iPad Pro 12.9", and iPhone 7. There's a lot of attention to detail and work that went into this video - i can tell, and it's great to see this. This is the new Beta which imporves the frame rate substantially across all devices, improves memory use, and also has a new backend with object oriented quests (thanks Nullzone!) which means I can add in quests very easily without needing to rearrange anything. (we might even see a small 4 chapter DLC soon Thanks to all of you who take the time to support BrightRidge and play the game P.S. Im so glad the Storm Serpent flyby is included - that's one of my favorite parts. PS BrightRidge hit #84 in RPGs on the app store today. It fluctuates wildly but anytime it dips into the top 100 i'm happy The details: The game was first tested with default settings, and then using custom settings I preferred for prettier graphics. The custom settings are: Resolution - Ultra - 1136 x 640 on iPhone, 2048 x 1536 on iPad Atmosphere Scattering - Bright Filters - Bloom, Contrast, Sharpen Effects - Water Particles, FX, Anti-Aliasing, Show Birds
Gee, I feel old. iPhone 7 wins hands down! BTW, waiting for the next gen big iPad Pro. Would be a killer.
runs really smooth on iphone 7+ and i enjoyed the "new" experience with an extra fps from it. i might do another video showing the glorious of NLBR with smooth gameplay.
Me too. I have an iPhone 6 Well, its always moving forward and really fast, but older devices are still really great i think. The current iPad pro's very fast and uses an A9X cpu. the iPhone 7 uses an A10 so i bet a new iPad Pro with an A10 or A10X will be blazing fast. Already you can basically push BrightRidge's graohics to the limit on iPhone 7, and near the limit (ultra res etc) on an iPhone 6S+. at this rate i'm going to have to include new settings to overclock the game even more
Yeah, Im AMAZED at how smoothly and how many high settings iPhone 7 can manage I have to fix a bug and add a few more small tweaks then i will push the new update to the app store. If you send me your email to [email protected], I'll add you to the Beta list and you'll get the latest updates Anytime you feel like doing a video on BrightRidge please do Its amazing to watch and i learned a LOT from watching you play the last playthrough. Its really neat how interaction with players can reveal so much about gameplay, and gives me really great ideas for future updates. I have to admit i dont do much user testing before hand, mainly because i am somewhat shy about my game. But when i did the Beta testing in August i cant believe i havent been doing that from the start because the helpful feedback has been incredible. im so grateful to everyone who has contributed feedback and gameplay and helped me make a better game.
Hmph, there I finally have time to post an Appstore review, and forgot that I cannot do so - or rate it - since I got BR HD via promocode. I posted it on the free version instead. Also copying it here, in case Robert wants to use it somewhere (permissions happily granted): Full disclosure: I am a betatester for Brightridge:Nimian Legends updates, and involved pretty much from release day, providing lots of feedback and ideas to the developer Robert Kabwe. (Yes, I am a huge fan of his). That's the first thing standing out. Despite being a single indie developer doing this on the side of his regular business, he is incredibly involved with the fan community, always responding fast to questions and feedback. Also, I am adding this review here, as this is the original version before the massive HD update, and I got the HD one via promocode, courtesy of the developer. In addition to exploring a huge and beautifully crafted world, in the HD version you now have a story mode that gives some background on it and the two main characters. On top of telling a charming little story, it had some absolutely breathtaking scenes, but I won't spoil those for you. Graphics-wise it blows everything else available on iOS out of the water. Plus, Robert (the developer) added settings like ultra-high resolution well in advance, in anticipation of more powerful devices, so I am certain it will stay beautiful for years to come. The world itself is fantastic, beautifully and lovingly hand-crafted with a keen eye for details, and chockfull with those everywhere. it's one of the best experiences in 35 years of gaming, sharing pretty lofty heights with other masterpieces like Planescape:Torment and King of Dragon Pass. Brightridge is truly unique, I know no other game like it. If you like exploring for its own sake, deep immersion, and be all awed by beautiful landscapes: then it's the best - and graphically most gorgeous - thing I know. The graphical options you can fiddle around with - e.g. setting lighting and weather effects - have no equal I know of and make for everything from subtle to drastic changes in atmosphere.
thanks robert, sorry for the late respon though. btw, do you have a plan on adding quest for the giant tree man? i think its absolutely awesome when the first time i saw them. makes me feels like im inside on of the lord of the ring scene @nullzone, your words can describe the whole game and how i exactly feel about this game too. ps. i really hope the series of nimian legends can become a benchmark for every new iphone release
Heh, we still need to kick some behinds at Apple to make them aware of it. Apparently the reviewer didn't catch how graphically polished BR is Does anyone know how to go about pointing an app out to Apple? Just send an email to e.g. [email protected] and hope for the best? And seconding the Treemen story request, that would be great.
Wow, thank you Nullzone. Taking the time out to leave a review on the app store is i think one of the things that helps BrightRidge the most in terms of exposure (aside from reviews). I think im realizing the game is loved - lots of five stars - but someone said they are surpsied they stumbled on it and hadnt heard of it, and i think its very hard to make any marketing in roads without a budget. That's why reviews like yours are basically worth gold to indie devs like me Ive been busy looking for work and actually just launched my new portfolio today. Small shout out, my day job funds my game dev and i spent too much time working on BrightRidge so now i need to make up for it. If anyone needs or knows someone who needs great branding, web or animation please take a look: http://poplogik.com wow thats a big picture So i am also aiming to upload the new game update this week that has even better performance and a lot of those under the hood optimizations we talked about - like the new object oriented quest engine - now i can add or remove quests without breaking the linera flow of the game. And it wont be in this update, but the quest upgrade inspired me to work on a new mini quest (i need a name for them, quest expansions? MiniTales?...) and i really love it. The main BrightRdige quest is like 55 chapters and this one is about 8 so it is coming along fast. It's called "The Wedding is Off!" and it introduces a new character with a really ineteresting view on the world. I think people will like it and its heavily inspired by my love of this book Ill send a beta version as soon as its ready. Im very happy about it. My plan here is to put less hours on BrightRidge and focus on finding paying design work (sales for BrightRidge are like 5 a day) but that still leaves me a good 10-20 hours a week for the game. Im going to finish and upload this update, then finish and upload v5 with "the Wedding is Off!". I will plan a few sales and see if that might spur some downloads. I am also continuing to optimize the code like i did with the quest engine, because i would really like to copy/paste and swap objects to make the next world, The Bone Sea (native name is Doonpillar).. I was experimenting with the new terrain engine, and i am now able to change teh entire map in literally a few clicks. So look forward to a desert environment soon if i can balance everything healthily. Thank you always for your support It's uplifiting.
A benchmark would be cool. Hopefully if i can sell enough and afford the new devices, then i could first hand test the game on them, and customize the best default quality for each one. That would be a great way to show off better graphics on newer devices from the outset You know, i am working on a mini expansion adventure called "The Wedding is Off!", and i have plots for 3 more mini adventures id like to add. But I love the tree man adventure idea, and a few people have mentioned the same thing. Now that ive rebuilt the quest engine in the new update coming, it lets me add and remove quests easily. So i was thinking either i expand the original quest to include the tree men, somewhere when the forest is blasted in fire by the first sentinel, and add it in, OR it is probably easier to give them a mini quest. Anyways it is on my mind so thank you for bringing it up.
A young fan sent me a BrightRidge Tshirt DKGAMES 12 87 also has a YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3lV-jVz7p65CGqiq-KzrlA and he recorded many playthroughs of the original BrightRidge. I sent him back some autographed original prints. It was really cool to get this Tshirt in the mail
Neko Michi has included BrightRidge in his list of top 5 graphically immersive mobile games and it was a real surprise to see this It's near the end if you want to check it out. His narration is really soothing and he captures a lot about what I love about BrightRidge in his words.
Nice reads! Thank you you all! Again, really love to see the best settings for each device. And I think NLBR HD should be a part of the benchmark ofall graphics incentive tests.
Oh boy, so much new stuff to reply to, I'll need a day or two to catch up and write appropriate smartypants replies Just some random thoughts for now: Even better vegetation? If you keep that up, you should spin that part off into a Unity plugin and put it on their store. The generators I know and found with a quick search just now rack up the pricetag really fast. Just look at that one: http://www.plantfactory-tech.com/purchase/ Maybe team up with someone who already has a name on the Unity Store (e.g. how much of an audience does 3DFoin have?), to make marketing easier. And yes, I can be borderline obsessive about little details like seasons in game settings Great to hear about more people mentioning BR, and congratulations for cracking Top 100! New quest and maybe a sequel? *drool* But your work and paying the bills comes first, so please don't feel obligated to spend even a single hour on NL/BR. I said that before, but if it so happens that you need a few years to make another part, so be it. Thanks everyone for the praise on my little review. I tried really hard to get that feeling of "whow...this is it!" across. The only other time I got this "whow! effect" was when I switched from PS1 to PS2 and played Final Fantasy X for the first time: I couldn't believe that the intro cutscene was over and I could actually play in this f*awesome-looking environment. Robert, you can of course use it any way you see fit, put it in your presskit or on your homepage or whatever. The idea with the autographed prints is great, love it. If things calm down a bit work-wise on your side, you could do something like a "best BR screenshot/video" contest, and have a signed print as prize Shipping costs to whoknowswhere will be a problem, though.
Oh, almost forgot, a more practical solution to the graphical settings questions coming up more frequently: Take a few where you know how they work, e.g. from user feedback, and put them on your homepage. Or just add a redirect to the TA posts, if you don't have the time to polish them up for your site. Then add a prominent link on the BR start screen, pointing to the page in question. Many other devs do this: e.g. Wasteland Interactive has a link to their externally hosted giant PDF manual for Planar Conquest, and links to Facebook, forums, and websites become increasingly common. Buried in this thread, they are rather hard to find. E.g. googling for "brightridge best graphics settings" gives no useful results at all. And "brightridge graphics settings" only brings you to page 137 of this thread, because it has the most posts dealing with them I guess. But other pages between 130-136 have good setups as well, but don't show up on the first Google results page. On the plus side, p.137 here is the first result after the (new, I think) "Apps" block (with two completely irrelevant and different games as #2 and #3, and BR as #1)
Just got a new iPad Pro, and it definitely pushes the graphics a little further than my iPhone 6 can. And it is nice to see BrightRidge on a little bit bigger screen. Such a success! Hope you can find as much success in the day job too, Robert.
Thanks Curtis I already have some leads so im happy, and i really love doing design work too, so t doesnt feel like work when i do it Im grateful to have two things i love. Congrats on your new iPad Pro! They look really cool. I just sumbitted update 4 and it doenst have much to see different, but there is a ton of under the hood improvements and optimization so maybe you'll be able to push the graphics even higher.
