    Whoa, I just saw that this is out and bought it instantly. Just because Robert is such a cool guy.

    Oh no, while I am sure that I *would* enjoy it, I can't :-(

    Shows logo (in kinda low resolution) with a spinner icon on top for about 7 seconds, then quits to homescreen.
    I have tried reset and re-downloading, still the same.

    iPad Air, 128MB, lots of free space.
    Latest iOS, all totally standard, no jailbreak or anything.

    Any ideas?
    The "old" Brightridge runs very well though.

    We need a video recording function in here, no way I can reproduce this I think:
    I climbed up to Eagle Tower, still mostly sunshine with some fog.
    At its top, I aimed for the Terrapin, shapechanged into the Eagle and dove off. The instant I did that, everything went dark and shadows kept chasing after me. The flight hugged the mountainline for a while, with things still getting darker until I finally gained height. When I got closer to the Terrapin, at first it started raining, then snowing. And when I glimpsed the orange beam from the Pin's top, fog closed in until I couldn't even see the tower anymore. Had to fly the last bit completely blind, shrouded in fog. Last thing, the fog suddenly cleared and I could land almost on top of the pin. All accompanied by that somber epic track of game music.
    Frigging Epic.

    @Redthumb: Did you try starting BR more than once?
    Right after download, the first two times it crashed for me in the same spot as for you (I think). Third time in a row and suddenly it worked, no problems since then. I'm on an Air1 too, so it definitely works on those.

    Nullzone's answer is what i was going to suggest. I know that at least 2 other people had the same issue, i think like it doesnt even show teh start screen, just the logo image, spinner and then crash.

    I am wondering if it has something to do with IOS 9.1 or higher? Can you let me know if closing and restarting it a few times doesnt work?

    When i get home im going to update my iPod Touch to a newer ios (although not 9.3 because i heard it has a major link breaking bug) and see if i can recreate the issue.

    I'm really sorry to hear about this. It's no fun for you or for me, I want people to be able to experience BrightRidge and not frustration. I'm also going to do some research to see if i can find a solution.

    A cursory search combined with what ive heard suggests some Unity apps are hanging on the splash screen on IOS 9.2.1, can any one here who had this problem let me know what ios they are running?

    :) thank you for trying it. Thats a picture perfect account of the kind of moments i hope explorers have.

    The music is very important, and for the quests i am working to have the music narrate the adventure, kind of give it an atmospheric push.

    Ive got to also figure out that splash screen crash issue. It was such a nightmare on the original version for everyone, it makes me sick to think it is happening again:/

    BTW can you tell me what version of ios you run on the device that had the problem?

    Haha, so THAT did the trick?
    After my last post, I started the old Bright Ridge, just to confirm that it still worked. It did.
    The I tried HD once again, and suddendly it worked too.

    Anyway, it runs now. And it looks georgeous, even on my kinda outdated hardware.

    I am not sure what is going on. A few guesses? The IOS version? Prebaking colliders in the splash screen? Perhaps even somehow could having the original installed be saving preferences to the same memory and then trying to be loaded by the HD version?

    I'm going to keep looking into this. Thanks so much for writing here for help, and for giving the game a chance:)

    Two quick thoughts, before Imdeve back into, BrightRidge again:

    Not a fan of the flickering lights either, but I read you are working on it

    Second, and more important to me, just like the old version, the screen is "the wrong way around" for me. Due to my stand, the homebutton is on the left side. Please make it either autorotate, or an option to rotate it by 180 degrees. I looked through the options, but did not find anything.

    Interestingly, the logo at startup shows in the correct orientation, when the game starts, it rotates.

    I think i'd like to have an open beta for BrightRidge updates.

    Right now i'm facing a big technical decision. Id like to upgrade my Unity project to a newer version. it supports AppleTV and also some new terrain enhancements. But im concerned that the performance on IOS is less than the current version im using.

    I'm going to try uploading my current test game - it has an updated terrain but a lot of the items on teh landscape need to be moved to match. some are floating. its all part of a new terrain system that lets me refine the landscape and will let me test new landscapes inside my project which will help me to make the sequels (if i get that far). If anyone is interested in being able to test it for performance, so i can know if it crashes, if its laggier than the current version etc, please send me an email to robert at protopop dot com. (im sure computers are smart enough to parse this by now but i write it out like that just in case:)

    If it is bad performance i will stick with the current version of the software for now.

    Thank you - that helps me track things down. I just found this post http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/possible-auto-rotation-crash-on-ios-unity-5-2-3p3.388929/ about a crash sometimes during autorotation, also on IOS 9.2.1.

    Im sure the logo rotating like that shouldnt happen either, which makes me wonder if rotation could be a part of the issue.

    BrightRidge should autorotate if rotation lock is disabled. Is it not rotating at all after you start the game, and can you tell me what version of IOS you're running?

    Yay! Turning off the Bloom completely fixed the flickering spots issue. This is really amazing. Now that I'm an eagle I can really see everything!
    My one wish is for an interactive map since I am getting lost a lot (which actually happens in real life too, so not a new experience...) ;)

    Thanks for letting me know gekkota - having a new app is like having a digital newborn (not as hard as the real thing but you know...) - there are a lot of growing pains:)

    Im working to make the next update map be a zoomed out version of the real terrain, more like skyrims map. This will help too because if i make changes i wont have to update a map image.

    Im glad the bloom trick worked. I'm looking at some other bloom options and at the textures that have this high specularity and will look fo a fix for that as well. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

    @gekotta: I'll try to squeeze a post in before the weekend, describing some navigation by landmarks. That might help you finding your way around without a map.

    @Proto & Redthumb:
    I think you are spot on with the Unity rotation bug. Just like Red, I always play with the homebutton on the left when in landscape.
    The first two times when BR crashed, I held my Air like that; and was wondering if something had messed up your autorotation again (I remember you didn't have it originally). After the two crashes, I flipped the iPad to "homebutton on right", so the game wasn't upside down anymore.
    And then it started up, and the auto-rotate works just fine too.

    And I am running on iOS 9.3 non-jailbroken Air1.

    You should still have my email address. Pressed for free time as usual, but I'll try my best to make room for BR and you :)

    Thank you - you guys led me to more research, and i found that Hearthstone (also made in Unity) has a bug in new versions of IOS : it crashes on startup unless the orientation is with button on right camera on left. Im running ios 8 on my phone here so i cant check, but it looks like it might be IOS 9.2+ and holding the orientation with the button on the left might be causing the crash. I will keep an eye on this and see if i can test it myself at home on my iPod.

    I just tested around a bit as well; and it seems that once it started correctly, things are fine. I tried all kinds of stuff, even flipping the iPad several times while BR was loading, but cannot reproduce the crashes anymore. I'll delete and re-download tomorrow, see if I can force it to happen with that.

    And I have a request for you:
    Could you make the weapon button configurable? I just took a bunch of screenshots, and really wanted the ingame camera on there. Same goes for e.g. shapechange at other times.

    On an unrelated note: Holy hell, WTF? What were you smoking? I freaked out a bit, those are *creepy*:
