Look what the Easterbunny brought, great surprise! Downloading.... Robert, thanks a lot for the giftcode, really nice of you! @decript: Welcome to TA. Re navigation/map: I missed a map marker / compass too at first (my memory sucks for game maps). But then I started navigating with landmarks, which works extremely well. Looks like it's time to revive the Cartographers' Guild thread and really write down directions this time @Paragon: Oha, thanks for the feedback about high resolution. Too bad I still have to save up a bit for an iPad Pro, those things are insanely expensive in Europe
Wow the hd version is absolutely breathtaking ! All the options in the playground makes me feel like an art director of the movie I am playing in. Guess I'm very lucky because I have an iPhone 6s and an iPad Air 2 so I can really enjoy all the beauty Nimian Legends has to offer #. Keep up the great work! I really amire your skills and dedication.
So I donwloaded this and gave it a go for a half hour. Pretty cool. But after a while it became to feel very deserted. There wasn't much life around. So I take it this will be getting updated? Still the graphics are amazing for a mobile game. I killed the first NPC that was telling me to find some town somewhere to talk to other ppl Lol. Never did find the town. I would advise ppl to go and find the eagle shape shift atop a spiral path tower thing asap, then enjoy. I might come back when this game has filled out.
First impression after half an hour or so: Total sensory overload, so much stuff to see everywhere it's overwhelming. I already noticed how much extra stuff you added to the landscape, amazing. My little one loves it too especially the new beetle and the dragon. Of course, now he wants another dragon to fight... And we had to "ask the grandma if she has sweets for us" (screenshot). That woman creeped me out: she looks like she's under a spell or drugged, what with the swaying and strange blank expression on her face. @Talbs: re "feeling deserted": In my opinion that's kinda the point, it's mostly wilderness after all. Personally, I prefer this to NPCs stepping on each other's toes everywhere. And if you look around, there is a lot of life in Brightridge: birds, dolphins in the sea, all the other animals, the Ents, etc. About updates: Robert wrote that there'll be quests in the near future; knowing him, that'll be not exactly a small update, I bet. @Proto: This might be something for you, "magic particles" special effects: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=284492 Their showcase has mostly hidden object games on it, but I found Godus and Juggernaut there as well.
I have a 128 GB iPad Air, and the game crashes immediately on startup. Restarting my device did not help. To say that I am disappointed is an understatement. I will try this on my iPhone 6 Plus, and see if it works there. Edited after trying this on my iPhone 6 Plus, 64 GB, and it crashes on that device as well. This is odd, that it would crash on two devices, and I have to wonder if a bad version of the game is now on the Apple servers. I have the latest version of iOS, btw.
That's weird. Because, I have a 16gb iPad Air running iOS 9.3 and it's working perfectly for me unless I max out everything and set the resolution to ultra. Crashes after that. Did you try reinstalling?
@david: On my Air1 iOS 9.3, the first two times I tried to start it, it crashed while loading. I cleaned memory between 1st and 2nd start, but that didn't help. Third time worked perfectly fine, and since then it's running without problems. No idea why it does work now, though. I'll send the crashlogs to Proto when I have time, recommend you do the same.
Thanks for your tips, Nullzone, and since I already deleted the app, I will reinstall and try again. Earlier, the issue was that I got the spinning circle thing when I tried to start it on both my iPad Air 1, and iPhone 6 Plus, with a crash right afterwards. I have lots of free memory left on both my devices, and a reset of the devices didn't help either. I have no idea how to send crash logs, btw. Edited, it now works on my phone, and I didn't do anything different. The phone has its original installation as well.
So excited to see this is now available! I've been super busy and stressed with work this week/weekend, making so many videos and immersions for so many Easter services. Now, I can look forward to a nice ale and some time in Brightridge when it's over today! I had to try it before leaving for work this morning. Though it was mentioned already, I think a map with current location marked on it would be quite helpful. The terrain is so gorgeous, I often get lost just looking around! Plus, the map looks gorgeous, and if someone can't find it, I think it's in settings. It's been fun messing about with the filters. That toon outline filter plus sharpen filter is a little like Borderlands and DQ VIII, but better. And I love we can have multiple filters on at once! Bloom makes the environment feel more alive. Though, the intensity of the blooming off of objects seems to be similar no matter the object. It took a minute to realize that bloom was causing the spots on big rocks. Is Bloom an effect that could have a slider to raise or lower the effect? Also, I had a little stuttering when swimming, while attempting to swim back up to the surface of the water. I'll swim a little more later to see if I was doing something weird with my controlling the character. Anyway, this is such an upgrade! Absolutely stunning! I've got a little monthly income that I set aside for Patreons that I often use, like Toucharcade. If you ever set one up to get a little income rolling in while working on these updates, please let me know. I don't have a lot to give, but I'd be happy to support your work beyond $2. Happy new release day, Protopop! Love the additions to Brightridge, and can't wait to experience it all anew.
I have the latest version of iOS, think it's 9.3.1, Exact-Psience. Oddly, it now works on both the iPad and the phone. After a fresh install on the iPad Air, it did crash the first two times, with the spinning circles followed by the crash. However, in the third try, it worked fine, exactly what Nullzone found. I didn't actually do anything after the second crash, but after reading Nullzone's comments, tried a third time, and that's when it worked. Perhaps it needs several startups to load the resources for the first time, and hopefully, once those resources are loaded properly, it will work properly in the future.
Is it intentional that you can go inside creatures? I've basically turned a live beetle into a cave. The little beetles and I are hanging out inside him. I uploaded a screenshot: http://www.appunwrapper.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/img_7725.jpg
Wow. So Depth of Field along with Burst and far rendering is amazing. So cinematic looking! I went to explore in First Person perspective, but I couldn't find it. Is that still there?
Thanks Valentia And thanks for your suggestion about adding a woman to the game way back when - it finally made it in. I actually am probably going to change the adult versions of each from barbarians to something more adventure-y. Ive come to see that the character you play has a large effect on the feel of the game. With its non-violent focus the barbarians are seeming a bit aggressive, and when i play as the young girl (her name is Giska) the world takes on this anime-fable feeling. It interesting how powerful your choice of avatar is and its something i learned along the way
Thank you. I heard Crescent Moon is doing their newest game in this really cool, kind of pixel like 3d art style - http://toucharcade.com/2016/02/26/legend-of-the-skyfish-announced/ - and so far it looks beautiful. I actually can't wait to try it. Crescent Moon is so good at creating full quests and stories, and their first games were a huge inspiration for me to try something bigger on the app store Crescent Moons upcoming game - so pretty!
How's it going, eh? Thank you for the compliment about my dev skills. I read a lot about other game companies, and i always kind of feel like "wow they are real, they have a team, they write blogs..." and i feel kind of like this guy just coding stuff. So when you say that it helps me feel like I'm part of a community, and realize I do try to keep in touch with people who play my game and listen to them because its a big part of the development process. It provides encouragement, which is well needed, and feedback and justa general sense of synergy that makes its way into the games Yeah, our dollar is crazy right now. After i finish the updates that adds the quest storyline iwill raise the price to 3 or 4$. I like to keep it low because of 2 reasons, 1. yes there is some self doubt that if i charge too much it will be a bad thing, but more 2. i want the game to be accessible to as many people as possible. I like using protopop as a verb - protopopping - i never thought of that before Thanks for the support decript
Thanks ParagonGamer I have it on my list to add some presets - both for quality and filters/look. I also need to figure out the best way to handle returning with the same quality settings. I spoke with a player a few weeks ago about this. I think i will offer basic quality settings to choose at the splash screen, but if you dont choose any it will load up the last saved versions. The reason i didnt do this from the start is that, unlike most games, the quality level in BrightRidge is very customizeable. This is because the difference between apple devices (and what is coming in the next 2 years) is HUGE! So the problem is you can crash the game by setting the quality too high, and when you restart with the same quality levels it goes right to a crash again. The game also detects your device (a7, a8, a9, GBs) and auto sets the quality based on that. Anyways it think by offering presets at the start as an option you can always switch back to a lower quality if what you set was too high. I think it will solve this issue and let me save the quality settings, cuz yeah its a hassle to set everything up then have it wiped Yeah high res will definitely make lag. In Unity the game is set to "best performance" resolution and that defaults i think to 1024x768 on iPad. At high res its like 1366 or something (and then 1920) so as we approach 1080p there's just no way the iPad can push that (even xbox one has trouble) - so the high and ultra resoltuion settings are really just there for future devices. Ill be adding the optio to use double textures soon, so on lets say the brand new ipad, or an ipad pro with 4gb ram it might work better to try those higher end options. But i will definitely keep optimizing like i did the original, and i think i general the lag on all quality levels will get better over time I know - that wolf! You could kill it but that would be sad. Her behavior is one of those things that i didnt have time to fix before launching. Whats nice about the revamped Artificial Intelligence is that all the animals and people (except the ones inside the in for now) use the same brain that is tweaked for their personalities, so that if i fix the behaviour for one it will improve all of them. Right now she is vocalising constantly when she is near you and i need to fix that so she is more of a silent companion. See this is why i love feedback - it is like having a whole team of QA and your suggestions help make BrightRidge better!
Thanks Noen - cool avatar icon - did you design that yourself? I'll be updating the game over the spring with some final mechanics and a storyline so i hope you'll stick around
