Im glad you're willing to give it a try I just switched the price last night - It probably takes a while to propagate to the various areas. Maybe give it a try now and see if it's resolved itself, and if you have any feedback i'd love to hear it
My pleasure I'm glad you tried it. The HD update will run on iPad Mini 2 also, but its at the bottom of the specs im supporting so it will run at less than full quality. But there are a lot of quality options in the new version so ou can disable things to try and get it to run smoother, or if you dont mind losing some frame rate or a crash you can overclock it by turning up the options as high as you dare. 1. The HD version will be 2$ US at launch and probably 3-4$ once i add the quests, which will be a free upgrade 2. Yes - actually there is already basic MiFi support in anticipation of the Mac version, i need to fine tune it and will enable it in an update
I put your name on my list and I'll send you a free code for the new version once it's online Thanks for trying the original out. iPad Air is about the same as iPad mini 2 (A7 / 1GB) so it runs at a lower quality, but even on the lowest metal device the amount of detail is much greater than the original game, and includes all the bonuses like the new shape changing, spiritviews, AI, realtime shadows (my favorites) and more. Plus you can adjust the quality in the options in a trade off between framerate and detail.
Thanks Nullzone Yeah, i was thinking about a different model - like finnessing the world and then offering different adventures within it for a price? But so far i think ill stick with he straight download. I have this kind of theory where i have a certain kind of personality and i want to share the game, and if it gets to the pint where i can develop games anymore because i cant afford it money or health wise then that's the way it will be. No one ever said it was my right to develop games, its just something i do and we'll see if it works. I know i come across as apologetic - i am Canadian after all - but there was some great advice on the comments. I think it was more about giving a heads up than about my game price change than the price itself, and next time im in that situation ill have this experience to help me make better marketing decisions. Anyways i love your support and your prose It makes me laugh, like a happy pill to help me on with my day. Here's a couple of screenshots from the 1.1 update - its a few new mechanics and a batrad new terrain engine that i couldn't push in before this submission. The 1.2 Quests is also in the works - i would like to get everything done for May and then take a nice break and enjoy the physical world around me - i get so swept up in bits and bytes For those of you who don't know, Nullzone is immortalized in the hillside statue in the background (its a hazy day so hard to see) - it will stand even once the seas rise up to wash away the old world In general Noon was my least favorite time of day, but Ive come to appreciate it more when you're in a forest under a canopy of shadowy trees
1. Accepting pre-orders?! 2. My iPhone 6s is becoming my main VR/MFi gaming device. I have no concern about the spec thing
Yeah I was able to download it now, I enjoyed it so far, it lacks the type of action I would like though. Do you plan to improve combat\action? I suggest adding at least more monsters...
I guess the 2$ version is kind of like a pre-order or early access. Preorders scare me though ever since i preorders an Ouya and got it after it went on sale at Best Buy.
I wont be updating the Free version because of technical limitations, but the HD version is coming out soon. It is pretty much the same but with many more options and detail. Anyways i am working right now on an even newer update 1.1 for the HD version that was too tight to add to the last submission, it enhances the terrain even more and adds a few small mechanics. After that version 1.2 will have some quests and a bit more action, and a few more creatures (rock monsters and the mysterious and dangerous Sentines, which are probably the only aggressive entities in BrightRidge) so even though my focus is not on violence, there will be some battling here if you choose to seek it out. I am aiming to have the 1.1 update out shortly after the HD version goes live, and the 1.2 quests in May Its funny because i have a general no violent focus but at the same time combat can be fun, i loved combat in Fable games which really inspired me. So my approach for the game quests is to accept that violence exists but only if provoked. Animals wont hurt you unless you attack them first. But i am working to find the right balance- i think violence as a fact of life is a reality but its good to stretch my mind and see all the different ways i can help players interact with the world. Its something i have been thinking about a lot.
an open world rpg quest without a combat system, hmm sounds familiar to me, i think you should see the tales of two brothers just as a reference. thats really exciting to play a quest which basically focus on the journey itself other than combat. anyway, we're getting closer to release, arent we?
oooo - good advice. I love Brothers - i bought it on Xbox when it came out ad have the iPad version. The art direction is stunning and its a big influence on me. I was JUST talking about it in the TouchArcade comments saying how much i liked it and how i need to add benches into BrightRidge (something a few people have asked for too) so that we can sit and watch a thunderstorm roll in (once i add thunderstorms I'm waiting to hear back from Apple, and im working on the 1.1 update already which imporves the terrain, textures even more and adds a few new mechanics that will be used in the 1.2 Quest update. The HD version uses a lot of procedural world design but when I submitted it i found new tech that let me improve things even more. No time to put it in the current submission so that will be out in the 1.1 update. After i made BrightRidge free i had 30,000 downloads yesterday so i hope some of that will translate into sales once HD is available Its nice to know so many people are willing to explore the world.
@Protopop: You know I absolutely adore what you are doing here, but when you mention (aggressive) creatures, I have to go "Will someone think of the CHILDREN?!?" My little one really likes to just walk around in Brightridge. And even with him playing Knight and Dragonslayer and all, I'd prefer if Nimian Legends stays violence-free, at least as an option/toggle (maybe hidden on a "parent screen", like several other children apps do it). I'd really appreciate it if you can get that in somewhere around v1.3 or so. Heck, I'd even buy *another* version of NL:BR without batting an eye if it's the kiddo-friendly one. UPDATE: 30k downloads after NL:BR went free? cheapskates... Jokes aside, I wonder if that made it show up somewhere on Apple's lists, e.g. "best free new indie games" or whatever.
Definitely. There's already a "turn off enemies" button and it's going to stay there. The 'violence' is also quite tame and with purpose - basically there are Sentines, robotic drones that patrol and protect the tower. In the 1.2 update they challenge you with some defences that you can jump over - its all pretty mild. I might introduce a few fights against poachers and between animals who are hungry but im still getting it in order. Most of the challenges though are nature based - exploring, platforming, grinding grain, going on a date. I just didnt want to forbid myself from adding in some combat if it feeds the story, while keeping in mind that all violence has consequences. Its tricky because the language for violence in video games is well established, and im finding it a real brain stretcher looking at non violent gameplay. I guess in the end its like violence is not desirable or the focus, but rather a part ofthe reality that makes the world more realistic, otherwise i would have even left out hunting altogether. But i thought it would be even ore of a disservice to verisimilitude if you could not attack the animals if you so chose too. One person wrote a few posts back how he wanted to plunder brightridge for all its worth In Canada BrightRidge is #48 on the free rpg list yaaay for little victories.
There's an HD version coming soon that let's you play as an adult woman hunter or young girl, in fact the woman is the default character in the new version. The first release doesnt have any quests but an upcoming update to the HD version will add a storyline for her - she will play as a young version of herself and as an adult Here's some screenshots of the character Giska as an adult Giska as a young girl (standing on the roof of the new BrightRidge Inn Some of my favorite games have had women as the hero: Beyond good and evil, mirrors edge, Tomb Raider
BrightRidge HD running on Android (Google Nexus 5, KitKat) The good news is its running pretty well on a nexus 5 which is a bit dated, comparable to an iPhone 5s which is the lowest spec device BrightRidge HD runs on. Im already far ahead with update 1.1 witha few new mecanics, bug fixes, update to new unity engine 5.4 and a new more detailed terrain (before 1.0 has even come out) so i am running a couple of project threads. The android and Apple TV versions will be based on v1.0, the same that has been submitted. im going to learn what differences i need to integrate into the main project using these side projects. then i can do another update for all three platforms later. I ts a lot to juggle but so far so good On android it was super slow, so i added in resolution android options, and disabled opengles3, and switched to forward rendering. it still looks great, but the frame rate was slowing down over time, i think the latest changes fixed this but i will test it out. Still very good for one nights work so i am encouraged Ill be uploading a new version of the original game soon too, mostly with just a link to try the HD version if you like the (now free) original, and to rename it to BrightRidge Free to avoid confusion. Anyways at the same time, with what i am learning now, ill see if i can put BrightRidge Free on Android too as well as HD.
yes a bench is a god idea too btw 30k downloads in one day? that is crazy man. yep i hope it will translate into the HD version as well or even more. well deserve proto
