Thanks Amenbrother - that is nice to hear. I really like designing wildernesses and trying to make it "feel" real - not so much with the crispest graphics but with a kind of painterly, messy application of light, color and shadow. Once i finish BrightRidge i will take what i have learned for the next one, DoonPillar. My main goal for that is to have more large scale monuments and a larger landscape (i had one twice as big in my original unreleased Nimian Hunter Salvation game). My ultimate goal is to really bring the massive sense of scale we see in concept art into a 3d world, something that Shadow of the Colossus did really, really well
Crescent Moon should hire you to do all the environments in an Aralon game and they could do everything else I mean wow. That would be the best game on the app store then imo.
Either way, I'm on board. It's been great to follow your development and ideas on this release as well as your others through Tumblr. Your work is astounding.
Thank you Crescent Moon is really impressive. I admire how deep and intricate their quests and adventures are. I'd like to inject some more of that depth into BrightRidge.
BrightRidge Classic "Blue Flicker" fix 1.5 A minor update for BrightRidge Classic that fixes the blue flicker appearing on some pine trees that was introduced in IOS 8.3 and higher. If you have IOS 8.3+ this will fix it DOWNLOAD BRIGHTRIDGE: https://itunes.apple.com/ /nimian-legends-brig /id885657108
protopop, did you use the day and night cycle for the new build? i think its quite easy to implement that feature in unity 5. im playing with that for almost 3 days now to find the perfect colour to match the night, dawn and sun rise ambient for my project and its quite awesome i say. ps. oh the last screenshot is super gorgeous btw. i agreed with amenbrother that if you were the designer for Spoiler aralon 2 then its going to be most awesome rpg ever created on the appstore well, nuff said, im waiting for NB to top that by its own figure
Thanks! I didn't know you worked with Unity - thats really cool. When do you find the time with all the videos you upload? If you have any projects to share id love to see them. Yes i did just add the day/night cycle and i agree it is SUPER cool. Here's a screenshot: It's not in the current version, which i am considering a rename to BrightRidge Classic, but it is in the soon-to-be-released HD version. What i really like about it is that suddenly there are so many different looks for the same place. When i first made BrightRidge i was very focused on a specific sunset look, its also a way to make sure the art direction is tied together. But i see you can still have a consistency to the design and give up control of the lighting because on its own it "paints" some really beautiful moments. What i really love about the HD version is the shadows. I remember playing the first JUST CASUE, and just standing under this tree in the jungle and my jaw dropping at the tree shadows that made the whole area come to life. I think that's a moment that has stayed with me and now im happy to be able to use the effect in my new wilderness
This looks great ... you're clearly a master of optimizing graphics for mobile. Since you're building in Unity 5, like us, you should check out SimpleLOD. It's a great way to combine meshes and thus reduce draw calls even further.
Thanks WaveLightGames I'll check it out. I kind of tend to skimp on optimizations - im more of an artist than a programmer and what i read the real geniuses doing, its like they know how to squeeze every last drop out of the system. I havent even learned how to use the profiler But im always trying to learn more, and my background as a flash designer means i guess i always try and take the less cpu intensive route when i can - anyways tips like this are very helpful. And I really like Unity 5. Sometimes i worry that it is moving too fast (reflections with occlusion culling are currently broken for example) but i admit a lot of the new features are great improvements.
@Wavelight: Nice to see you drop by here If you ever make an outdoors game - say, DR 3 "Death to the pointy-eared treehuggers" - Robert should be your prime choice for creating the environment.
I'm using the standard Unity optimized bloom. I'm a big fan of the Fable series and they were known for their huge use of bloom and light - kind of like the JJ Abrams/lens flare of their day. Sometimes it can overwhelm a scene but i think my art style is kind of like an impressionists, im not so focused on pixels and more on color, light, mess and promoting a "feeling" to each scene
thats my real passion, while youtube is just a hobby that surprisingly can earn me some cash . i rather show you the finished project than just the half baked one, but some screenshot could be just fine i guess. send you some of my work later via email if you want.
Thats cool about it being your passion - i totally get that. I saw follow it, but its also impressive what you've managed to do with you tube - that takes dedication. I totally get it also about showing beta-ish stuff - if you ever want to share anything no pressure just email me at [email protected]
Heh, has nothing to do with faith, we all know you're the best with this stuff not kidding, just for the record)
*Siren sounds, drumroll, Wagner's Walkuerenritt* Just discovered by sheer dumb luck that CM's Josh contacted you about a possible collaboration for Ravensword 3. Congratulations, high time for that. They should have asked you for Aralon2 already Anyways, if there's any chance you can take him up on the offer, GO FOR IT! ("World & Environment Design Lead: Robert Kabwe" rolling by in the credits is something to really look forward to ) @Josh: Just in case you read here: Excellent decision. Ravensword and/or Aralon with highest-quality environment like Robert here does sounds very enticing.
WHAT?!? That would be awesome. I love the Ravensword series (much more than other CM releases), and to have Protopop onboard for the next installment sounds like the perfect combination. Congrats to everyone. I hope it's beneficial for all. Man, I'm so excited at this prospect. I have both Nimian Legends : Brightridge and Ravensword 2 on my iPhone.
