Yeah, I totally understand the difficulty in deciding which way to go. For me, when new iOS versions come out I know a lot of my favorite apps might not get needed updates right away. Or I might have to reorganize my files if I update. I just know that on this iOS my phone can do exactly what I want at the moment, so there no need to go through the hassle. Plus, the whole metal thing gives me reason to look forward to upgrading my phone eventually and enjoying that next step. But yeah, iOS adoption stats probably would be helpful. However, I just hate seeing one-star reviews from people who might not have read the description. Just not fair for devs like yourself.
I was one of the early adopters of this amazing open world game which I truly love! The ability to explore an open world is so much fun. I'm not the biggest fan of fps especially on iOS touch devices... I like gta v for the ability to explore which is truly amazing! I haven't tea all the forum but the new radiation island reminds me of this game although that one is very much fighting and surviving they did include an invincible explore mode. Keep up the good work as you've made an amazing open world to explore!
I've begun reading the forum again and was wondering if anyone has a game guide? At not point the developer did cool things such as Nimian Legends: BrightRidge Cartographers and Exploration Guild Home > General Game Discussion and Questions This is great but gets lost and buried. It was amazing to see what a Japanese gamer did with a map with photos etc... Just curious in strategy, tips, maps, and other things prole have created to share their exploration, photo journal or adventure!
I've enjoyed catching up on this thread and appreciate the direction of where you are headed and taking into the account of the spirit of the animals etc.... "Maybe i should add a ranger character called Dakine." If you ever did create a ranger/explorer Dakine would be a sweet name and disposition for their trait.
Just bought it to support you. It looks great and exploring is fun, however after unlocking transformations the "fun" is slowly going away. I think it would be more to do if there were missions or quests. Maybe even a story. Some missions could be go and seek this object. With only clues you have to explore and find it. That's just one example of how it could open gameplay greatly. After you complete said quest it gives you more of the story and the next quest. This would encourage exploring but give you an objective as well. A survival element would be awesome in this game as well. There is so much opportunity here.
Dear Dev(s), Congrats with a magnificent looking app. The size of the world vs the size of the app really astonishes me. One question though: can you add inverted look (for people using the first person view)? Thanks in advance!
Yeah, I don't have room on my ipad to update either I think Apple will give more base RAM next time because no one has any room to update which is something they want. I don't know - i hear what you and many people are saying, and it's important to me to try and reach people... i'm going to keep working on the updates and see how long I can support the older devices, but definitely in my mind im prepared with the free version in case it's not possible. BTW BrightRidge is coming to Mac too BrightRidge for Mac Beta
You have been here since the start and I appreciate it I love exploring too. I bought Radiation Island, and I'm impressed at how HUGE the landscape is. I wonder if they made it in unity? (it looks like it). It was really great that the dev added the exploration mode so you can just look around without worrying about the enemies (thats what I did). A week or so ago someone wrote me and they liked turning off the enemies (such as they are) in BrightRidge and just exploring, so there is definitely an interest in more than just guns with games now (although that can be fun too). Exploration and other 'regular' things can excite people and i am positive we'll see more of it. BrightRidge for Mac Beta
Im glad you found that. It's actually in my todo list once i upgrade the game to use a new animation system that will let you choose your character at the start (male or female). There's a statue near the Eagle Power tower that talks abot an ancient Historian I named after Nullzone who has been a big contributor to the forum and a great supporter. Nothing like putting something connected to reality into the experience - kind of like an Easter egg BrightRidge for Mac Beta w. Realtime Shadows
Thanks Batmania Your support is great and appreciated! If you're on an iPhone 5S or iPad Air/Mini 2 or higher im going to be updating the game with Metal support (faster performance) and quests Ive been writing for the game world. Right now im focusing on updating the game files to use a new version of Unity (the engine the game's made in) that is giving me more options . The quests are based on the idea of Speed, Strength and Spirit so you can affect the world in different ways. There's not a ton of them but they are mostly based on exploration and nature (at least the spirit and speed ones). You're totally right about encouraging exploration. For me the quests are a great way to introduce people to the world. You sound like someone who has explored many virtual worlds There is also 3 new environments that i have been working on in the background. Here's an early screen shot of DoonPillar - the next chapter (the game originally had all areas but it was too big so i'm splitting it into 4). It's also coming for MAc and PC with more detail in case you're interested (i even am testing it on Oculus Rift VR goggles) Nimian Legends DoonPillar BrightRidge for Mac and PC
I haven't seen a gameguide yet but i am working on the Nimian Legends Omnipedia http://nimianlegends.com/map/omnipedia/ BrightRidge is part of a larger world and the Omnipedia just gives some more background about the people and places in Nimia. It's still under deveopment but im close to finishing it Nimian Legends Ominipedia Preview
Thank you Loozr. I'm really happy you like it. It's a lot of work and sometimes it's almost too much to take on alone, but when I know people have enjoyed it a bit it makes it all worth it - seriously You know I hadn't really thought about the inverted control and Im surprised I didn't because i remember playing a legend of zelda once where you couldn't change it and it was driving me CRAZY! Also i was just reading the Radiation Island forum (the open world zombie game) and someone was saying how they wouldnt play the game until it had inverted look support - so that's a really important suggestion. I've put it on my todo list and I dont think it's too difficult to implement. I like big worlds. Except maybe for Just Cause I've never met a game world I felt was too big to explore BrightRidge was 4 times the size before but ive cut it into 4 separate parts. (maybe someday i will release the original map) Yeah, thats crazy about the app size - i was surprised too. I was like "this will be 1.2GB or something and it's like 120mb or so. I think it's because its heavily optimized for the iphone. And i also rely more on making a mess with the trees and grass (im inspired by Shadow of the Colossus) and less on finely tuned graphics - if i were a painter my paint would be all over the place Thanks so much for your support! BrightRidge for Mac and PC Beta
Very nice. I'm on an iPhone 6 plus so I very much look forward to the metal update. As well as the quests that sounds great! Even though I like exploring I still like that goal to reach. The new environments sound great. You are talented, I can't wait to see what this grows into. Hopefully the quests are a hit and you can add more.
Maybe you could also do something were we have to collect artifacts but they have to be found by exploring. That would award you for exploration. Just another idea
Wow! Doonpillar looks amazing! You really have an incredible talent at creating beautiful worlds! Keep up the great work!
I like the way you think I have a few treasure hunter quests in the works and finding some rare artifacts from the world of Nimia is a great way to also give more legends and lore about BrightRidge One of these trees is not like the other... BrightRidge for Mac and PC
Thanks Macatron I'm glad to hear that about Doonpillar because it's really hard to make an interesting desert environment. In video games i was never crazy about the desert vs the forest (i loved skyrim and wasnt too into Fallouts detailed but bleak desert setting). In forests you can throw trees everywhere and it almost paints its own interesting areas to explore. In a desert things are more visible and open, so ive been working to introduce unique and interesting areas (dunes, desert rivers, chasms). The main focus of DoonPillar though is the underground temple, a huge area where a devious beast named Spinderella awaits! BrightRidge is coming to Mac and PC
That's a great question I'd say realistically June. Originally i was updating the app about once every 6 weeks, but for now it will be longer between updates. Right now Unity engine is kind of in a mini crisis. The latest version 4.6 just added 64bit export a couple of days ago - something that apple requires starting last Sunday. But it's really buggy, so i am waiting that out a month or so for them to make it more stable. I also am using Unity 5 beta, but light-maps and more don't work on it yet either. So basically i need to wait a bit before committing to many changes to my project file. What I am doing right now is ive upgraded the project to both Unity 4.6 and 5 to try and solve any bugs on my end. All of this is because of Apples new 64 bit requirement, otherwise I would have kept updating my original project file at the same timeline. I'm also working on the supporting Nimian Legends website and Omnipedia. So it's all slow going at the moment with no show stopping updates. But there is a lot getting done behind the scenes. Ive been adding small details to the project like keyboard, mouse and gamepad support, metal support so that while I wait for unity to sort itself out Ill be able to release the game on a few new platforms, probably in March. Then my next 2 steps are BrightRidge update 1.3 which includes a list of fixes and new mechanics (like inverted camera control options, teleport bombs, metal support and more shape changing). Then when that is done i will add in the quests in version 1.4. I am currently writing out the quests, testing a new dialogue engine and getting ready for that. Hopefully eventually ill be able to support myself from my games so that I can devote myself full time to them, which is my goal and dream For now though I make a living doing stuff like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?x-yt-ts=1422579428&x-yt-cl=85114404&v=o73udN_Y3Z0 I know its a long time to wait but i hope you'll keep tabs on the game. I think the metal update will be really cool especially based on my tests. The iPhone 6 can handle a lot more detail.
