    People wearing animal masks freaks me out for some reason. I think its the power of masks in general - these are definitely going into the world:)

    Roleplaying is great. I just got the new 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons players handbook after basically ignoring d+d since version2, and its really great. Lots of good artwork and interesting ideas. I remember the first dungeon masters guide teaching me a lot about life because in giving you the tools to build worlds it tended to descrive them too:)

    You're wife should be proud of you - you've got a good eye and broad tastes.

    They havent featured in Nimian Legends main universe yet but there's a lot of common fantasy tropes amid the unique world - maybe they'll make an appearance at some point.

    The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe was a HUGE inspiration for me. Especially how they entered the closet and it slowly turned into a cold icy forest. I always thought that was such a magical moment f transition, and used to jump into the armoire and feel through the coats pretending i was about to pop into Narnia and meet a faun:)

    Thanks:) And Im a big believer in cheats, so if you dont want to go down every path, im pretty sure their will be a master unlock so we can experience any part of BrightRidge we want to:)

    BrightRidge Update 1.2 – Jumping!

    I’ve put a lot of new additions into BrightRidge update 1.2 and it will be available soon. i thought i’d share a few screenshots and details


    Jumping

    I always thought games are better with jumping and now its coming to BrightRidge. You have a responsive powerful jump, and like the flying it’s one of those mechanics that once i tried it makes a huge difference in how you explore the environment. Its made the space much more vertical and ill be adding quests and landmarks to take advantage of this in the later 1.4 “Quest” update.

    including antialiasing and Magic Hour – which bathes the world in an ethereal rainbow glow

    Custom cameras

    The camera can now be switched between preset locations and is also completely customizable so you can see BrightRidge from all new angles

    Dynamic Weather & Controls

    BrightRidge now has dynamic weather – storms, fog, rain, wind and even hurricanes. You can also go into the settings and change the current weather type with a touch and set the frequency of the weather changes. You might even come across a rainbow or two.

    New Shapechanging

    Ive added the butterfly, fox and deer to the list of animals you can shapechange to. Spirit view still lets you watch the animals go about their business, Shapechange lets you actually become them.

    Quality Settings

    Now you can increase the density of the grass and the distance, turn reflections and antialiasing on and off. This is the first batch of quality controls so if your device can handle it you can turn all the effects up to next gen for a very lush world.

    New Viewdot Behaviour

    Viewdots now display only the title of the location so that descriptions dont get in the way of the view. You can turn the additional information on and off anytime if you want to learn more in depth about the Nimian Legends universe. This also lays the groundwork for the new dialogue system that’s coming with quests in update 1.4

    I managed to jump into this tree:) With the new vertical movement im going to have to clean up textures in nooks and crannys like this.

    Roleplaying... sigh, impossible to find time for that with a family. But then I had my first swordfight with my little one today, so I guess we can go Larping soon ;)

    And my good gosh, you are one busy fellow! The update notes are great.
    The "magic hour" screenshot is so beautiful, you should add that one to the Appstore screenshots.

    Just couldn't find that part on Youtube right away, it's the first third of the movie if I remember right, shortly after Van Zan and his soldiers arrive at the stronghold.

    Those Japanese masks are so fierce! I guess that was the intention, to scare enemies or make peace with evil spirits? It's interesting how masks come from all cultures. I really like this mask idea and im going to integrate it more into my game.

    I remember a friend of mine was given this nazi or something similar mask - it was from someones collection of memorabilia or something - and it was so frightening. Im not superstitious (much) but we put it in the drawer to wait to give it to the owner and we were like afraid to talk bad about it lest we anger it:) There's something about masks I am telling you.

    By the way the update is going really well. The jumping is REALLY cool, more so than i thought it would be. Ive reduced the slope you can climb up so no more walking up almost vertical walls, but with the addition of jumping you can still navigate to the top. The world is also begging for more to jump on - of course i wont just add in stuff for stuffs sake, there needs to be a reason things exist in the world and ill be sure to place new landmarks with care.

    They talk about enjoying BrightRidge as it is now before it gets all action adventure-y so quite a few people are worried i'll reak it's charm. But i think the new additions will help you explore the world, and im making sure that the depth is there only if you want it. there's nothing thrust in your face:)

    Thanks, that's great to hear:)

    BrightRidge is coming to MAC. First i am finishing the 1.2 (almost done) to 1.4 updates which bring new mechanics and nature based quests. Then version 1.5 will bring Android, Mac and PC support.Shortly after that you'll be able to download the new location DOONPILLAR too. I also have controller support built in, so you can play it with a gamepad if you want:)

    Update 1.2 has a lot of great additions, but one that many people were asking for is an ingame map. Later versions will be interactive, but for now it gives you an idea of what's out there:)

    I like your enthusiasm:)

    I wish I could make it run on every device - i just want people to experience the world and escape for a bit, so it's been very hard for me to come to grips with the fact that not everyone can play it.

    Hopefully it will stay on the App store from here on - maybe someday if you have the opportunity to get a new device (it'll be on android soon too) you'll be able to check it out - I hope you will.

    Is there a way to reset the game? Or at the least, do animals/monsters killed ever respawn once killed?

    Thanks for asking Kirenx. Here's the scoop - right now the game only saves your activated powers (and cheats), so if you get the eagle form, or axe upgrade, or bow upgrade etc... it will keep those active whenever you restart the game.

    You can reset these stats and the game right now - on the Splash Screen with the start button, there's an option button in the bottom right of the screen. Use this to reset your game.

    I am close to completing update 1.2. This version also saves your location - give or take a few hundred meters, so you'll restart in the general location you closed the game. Eventually with quests coming in version 1.4 the game will save more information as well, like creatures that have been killed. Also in 1.2 the reset button is located in the main game options, so you wont have to go through the splash screen to reset (it should have been like that all along:)

    I have an idea that maybe will allow the game to run on older devices! Make the same game but with the graphics being toned a bit or a lot and make it as another app. Galaxy On Fire 2 did this or in other words they made a SD version(For Non-Retina Devices And The Graphics Toned Down)and they made an HD(For Retina Devices And With Grapics Toned Up)! It might be a pathetic idea but I don't if it will work, all I know is that FishLabs(Creator Of Galaxy On Fire 2)managed to do it.

    Thanks MBowman:) Most of the models are from the Unity Asset Store - I couldn't have made this game without it. In early versions i was creating things by hand and quickly realized there was no way i could do this on my own. But with the asset store its kind of like hiring artists to help you crete something new. Anyways i hope you will check it out, and theres a good update coming soon, 1.2 that brings weather, new shapechanges, jumping (which is really fun) and more.

    Thanks for the help SirHanet - it's a great idea. Actually the game is programmed this way now. if it detects an A5 device (like iPhone 4S or iPad mini 1) it uses 1/8th textures and removes a lot of non-essential detail, like mist, extra rocks.... I'm continually optimizing it and learning new tricks so hopefully i'll be able to get better performance on older devices, but unfortunately i can simplify it beyond a certain point, so some devices will never be supported. Anyways your idea was spot on and i appreciate the help - good ideas come from talking about these things:)

    What devices does the game run on without crashing? Please tell me in specifics--like iPhone 4, iPhone 5s, iPad Mini, iPad Air, etc. Thanks.

    My friend has an iPad Mini like me and it just crashes after loading. Tis a pity because the graphics were so inviting but she can't play it.
