Im against IAP (as in freemium or paywall, dont mind paying for extra content like in Tilt to Live fe) and this is freemium at its best, maybe better implemented than before... enjoyed it for a while but it kept reminding me that is freemium and deleted it. If Call of Snakes has no IAP im sold on that one instead.
Nothing surprises me when it comes to the irrational fear of paying someone to entertain you A game could be launched for the price of free with 100 expertly designed levels and have a one time $0.99 IAP that not only unlocked a billion levels but mailed you a check for $100 and there would be people complaining they didn't get the $100 check just for completing the 100 free levels. Me, I just dropped the $5 for the red gems as soon as I'd finished the tutorial. I've played enough of Nimblebit's stuff (and played the web demo last weekend) that I knew we'd get our money's worth out of it in my house. It's $5 - that's what an on-demand movie rental will set me back. Like always with NB, I spent it because I wanted to, not because I needed to (in fact, part of why I jumped at the $5 IAP here is that I never did spend a dime on Pocket Planes). In my short time with the web demo I earned a number of upgrades and never ran out of tokens.
Sad that hackers got to this game already. I know Nimblebit has been able to eradicate them before so hopefully they can this time around too.
I upgraded the first hero the first time for one gem. I looked to see what the next upgrade cost was and it was 1,000. Being a bit short I went to play and get more gems. Got the 1,000. Went BACK to upgrade him and now it says it is 9,562 to upgrade him. What is that all about? Was it a one time offer? If so I am certainly changing my upgrade strategy for future characters! EDIT: So wait a second. I tried AGAIN and the number decreased. Was it 10,000 initially (not 1,000) and then decreases each time you play a round?? That would be really nice as you would not need to use gems ever! You just play and play!
Either a bug in the display for some reason or a brain fart. First star is 1000 gems outright, 2nd star is 10,000, 3rd star 100,000. Yes (seeing your edit), you don't have use the gems at all as putting them in the lead will level them up with enough kills. My strategy has been to just level the lead by experience and use the collected gems for leveling the non-lead guys.
Same here, I think Pocket planes is one of the games I played the most ever, and I never had to buy anything. So I bought the permanent red gems IAP, it felt right by them and will help me level faster. I agree, I don't really care about the GC leaderboards, but it could ruin the guild scoreboards. On which of their game did this happen before? And responding to myself : On twitter, @eeen said there was no syncing. He did not say why (PP had it, so it's a bit odd).
Played some of this last night. I like that the characters are upgradable and stuff, but I'm feeling this is a step down from Call of Snakes overall. For one, I like that in CoS you have a choice of continuing the campaign (which has levels to complete, so you can play any completed level or the next one in that area and progress to other areas), playing an endless survival mode, or the online mutliplayer. It just seems a better fit for a portable game because the better you get at NimbleQuest, the more time you need to invest in each game where as it's pretty easy to just play a Call of Snakes level for a couple minutes and then put the game down after it if need be or do more levels or play the endless mode if time permits. Also, despite the overall theme... the powers of each character pretty much clone the powers of the characters in Call of Snakes. There's the short range character, the long range one, ..etc... they mirror more than they innovate. Same with the environments. There were 5 environments in Call of Snakes that changed every 10 levels. I would encourage anyone that likes Nimble Quest but doesn't own Call of Snakes to go throw a dollar at Call of Snakes by Magic Cube before investing in any IAP in a game that clearly clones it. Just keep in mind that early on most of the enemies are stationary in CoS, but it ramps up in difficulty nicely and snakes of enemies appear as well. There's a lot of strategy in that game. And remember yesterday you didn't think this would get hacked to bits. Also on your q about upgrading characters. They get experience when in the lead during gameplay. So the cost to upgrade continues to decrease the more you play using that character. You don't even have to pay to upgrade, just play 5000 games or whatever until the character gets another star on it's own. But this is where the hackers and those that can just throw money at this game will get an advantage online since they can just fully upgrade all the characters in one fell swoop.
Is it me, or I'm I the only one who thinks that the swipe control is not good or not responsive enough because aside from the controls that I really don't like, it's a really great game otherwise. Maybe, for Nimblebit, they can implement a new control option in a new update, like a d-pad or simply tap-to-move instead.
Strange. Im actually surprised how responsive swipe controls are. Also for people who bought red gems IAP thingy. Is it worth it?
They appear rather frequently and are worth 10 gems. I'd say overall it's like gem tripler or so (i got around 800 gens where I did get 250 for about the same play length) I don't think they're really needed to progress though, it's your call Is it the first time they offer a permanent IAP in one of their game?
thanks... that might explain why i'm able to get further and further when i'm not making stupid mistakes. it's also good knowing that since i wouldn't want to level up characters who i'd rarely use as a lead (like the archer). as for CoS comparisons, you'd have to be blind not to see the similarities, but you'd also have to be confused to think it's a blatant clone. taken as similar games in the same genre, i'd easily pick this over CoS. i've played the other game, and found it hard to really get into. the timers on characters made it so a simple mistake meant i was stuck using characters i didn't like, or just going off to do something else. there are other issues i had with CoS, but i'd have to load it again to remember. basically, it just wasn't that fun for me, whereas this is.
If that was what you were referring to then my bad. I thought you meant the COMMENTS on this thread would hack the IAP PRICING model to bits. I see what you meant now. To answer someone else - I believe it was Pocket Frogs that got really hacked for presents etc.
The biggest effect is it makes it a little easier to keep your leader alive (you regain a wee bit of health for picking up gems, well, picking up a 10X gem is ten times the wee bit ). Otherwise, it will increase the rate you can upgrade characters and, later, purchase boosts. But, as usual for NB, it's not going to change the game experience radically. You get a slight boost to the durability of your leader and gain gems about 2X-3X the rate of those without the upgrade. So, whether it's worth it or not is purely how much you like to support Nimblebit and/or how much you really love their take on the Snake+ style games.
Definitely saw 1 gem! I didn't HAVE 1,000 at the time to upgrade! But I am definitely decreasing from 10,000 for the next upgrade. Thanks for the info.
So yeah the support forum for NimbleQuest explicitly states that device game progress syncing is not supported...Bummer.
