Exactly, it's a sub-genre and this is an interpretation/spin on it. There's nothing dodgy going on here....
OMG, CAN'T. STOP. PLAYING. Pretty much one of the best freemium titles ever released. Seriously, I can't put this thing down! Already played the desktop version, but on the iPhone it's twice as fun. Will definitely purchase the red gem IAP to give the devs the credit they deserve. Everything clicks. I see this baby running up the charts in no time.
Game Impressions In a nutshell: really nice game that if balanced for optimal player experience would have been highly enjoyable. Unsurprisingly it has been balanced for a pay-up-or-grind experience instead. Which is a shame, in more ways than one.
Improves a certain stat of that particular hero, ie it might provide a percentage boost to attack speed or power. Each tier gets progressively more expensive (in the order of 10x or thereabouts)
I feel the gameplay needed to have been fleshed out some more; be it a loot system, character customisation (even if only aesthetic) or boss battles. As it stands, it's a pretty one-dimensional experience, but appealing to the casual crowd I suppose...
Why aren't there any achievements in this game? Nimblebit has traditionally always put some great achievements in their previous games and I was shocked when I saw this didn't have any. I thought it was going to be a given. They always extended the game play and make it extra challenging. Nimble quest looks like it could have some wicked awesome challenges. I hope they have plans for them in the future.
It isn't so terrible, really. Getting level one can be easily completed in a single game once you get decent. Level 2 only takes a few good games per character (I'm assuming spending gems to purchase levels, once you have the key powerups upgrades out of the way). Level 3, yeah that'll take a long while, but without that, there wouldn't be anything left to do, so I'm ok with that. I have 7 characters at level 2 so far.
Yeh it is iap oriented. If you want to get the top high score it can only be done with either grinding for a while or buying iap. No way around it when you get to the higher levels. That being said it is still a fun game and it still requires skill even if you do pay for a bunch of iap or grind forever.
And i'll add, grinding doesn't really feels like doing so, it's quite fun. It doesn't feels as tedious as other games that force you to grind
