'moot' also means that a point is well.... pointless/falls on deaf ears, no longer valid, etc. Sorry for the confusion.
However true, it doesn't make it any less painless for those of us that were more than willing to pay full price for premium games...
It'll be a godsend for the cloners though. The same old story we had with Eliminate and NOVA will repeat itself... Ngmoco makes a freemium game, people are annoyed but play it anyway... then someone else makes a similar game without freemium and suddenly Ngmoco's game is deserted.
People still buy games at premium prices (myself included) and devs make good money of it, like GTA and others.
I mourn the loss of a creative (Mac!!) game dev. R.I.P. Best thing that NGMoco could do is keep freeverse as a "label" for their non-freemium games.
So the plan is: 1) Avoid freemium in old games from Freeverse: Don't upgrade the games. 2) New games from ngmoco: Don't buy the games 3) ngmoco collapses. 4) Freemium is dead.
Very good point, never thought of it that way... I know that there are a lot of Gameloft haters on TA, but they do some pretty high quality clones of sorts. Hopefully a lot of devs will take GL's model and add quite a bit more imagination to their games though. I just honestly don't understand the gripe in paying $10 or more for a quality game, never have.
YAY maybe Warp Gate will be finished now! Idk y everyone hates ngmoco, they hand out games for free so you dont waste any money on games you dont like. Then the episodes or full versions only cost around 2.99... I REALLLLLY dont see a problem with that...
Nickel and dimeing folks for 'virtual dog food' isn't quite the same as getting a full game experience for a small fee... I had and have no problem paying $10 or more for a Rolando-quality game, but I wouldn't pay a couple bucks per level...
You have it WAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY wrong, their new approach is you can only play a certain amount of time or do a certain amount of things and have to keep paying to continue.
We're not really complaining about the $2.99 ones, we're talking about the ones with the never ending price tags like Eliminate.
Hey guys there will be a lot of better information tomorrow. But rest assured. We are not making changes to our current titles (well adding Plus+ awards and leader boards to a lot that need them). The current titles you know about, the stuff about to come out (Zombie Cannon Carnage and Warpgate) are not changing and are going to be the games we promised. In the future, we will be working on games that are not the traditional, "99 cents and hope to god it sells enough so we don't go hungry" business model. Regarding that Tech Crunch article, I believe it's a horribly twisting of what Neil was implying. If you bought Skee-Ball, don't worry, it's not switching to Free tomorrow (same goes for everything on the store right now). Heck we just released a Free version of Parachute Ninja as a demo under the traditional Normal/Lite model. Edit: Lastly there's a lot of really bad and wrong information in this thread. Please don't take to word what other people are saying about companies business models and future plans. They have as much insight as a Magic 8 ball.
for certain gamestyles which that fits. ie touchdogs. We Rule does not have required purchase and neither (i believe) will GodFinger. Buying only makes the game faster and in my view, not worth playing. Rolando 2 was purchased by episode and it is a full platformer......... Ngmoco could easily do that for games as well. They could potentially put in a $4.99-7.99 price for unlimited food in TouchPets if there is enough demand. The possibilities are endless with this price model, but in my eyes, the consumer is the winner because no one is twisting your arm to purchase.
Glad to know my Flick Fishing is safe . We aren't trying to pish ideas in to people's heads, we are simply upset how Ngmoco is handling all of this.
