I don't think it's competing with Real Racing...RR has carved it's own unique niche on the App Store. To me, this is competing with Ashpalt 5, and just from these 5 screenies, it looks like it will DESTROY A5.

I'm not too sure about that, NFS Shift is a sim, similar to Real Racing while Asphalt 5 is an arcade racer like NFS Undercover. Though, NFS Shift and Asphalt 5 sorta have similar cars which are real, not like Real Racing. It might be better that A5 but who knows? I love racing games so I'll probably be picking up both. NFS Shift comes out on Sep 15 for the console versions, probably the same for the iPhone one too, let's wait 'till both come out and see.

It better be a sim. Real Racing wasn't even a sim. At least it tried to be but was more of a mix of arcade and sim. Arcade racing games are just awful. I like the hardcore sim racers like Forza 2 and I'm eagerly waiting for Forza 3.

    Australia, mate!
EA proclaimed that it will be a sim, but from the screenshots, it looks like it will be on the arcade side.

To be honest, Simulations are awful, I can't stand them; the console version of NFS S obtained a 'Great' score, but I think I'll pass if it's strictly a sim. But the part about licensed cars is interesting.

Well you're basing that on a handful of screenshots. Until I see those graphics running on a non-3gs device at a solid 30fps, I'll remain skeptical. A smooth framerate is more important that pretty graphics.

Also if this is a sim, they need to fix the controls (at least give us a gas pedal and sensitivity for tilt), add some decent AI (which was non-existent in NSFU) and multiplayer (at least local via BT/wifi) and also beef up the physics engine. And lastly, they need to design some tracks that actually require you to use the brake pedal. Seriously I don't think I ever used it in NFSU!

This game made me forget about Asphalt 5 entirely. While I enjoy arcade racers, the realism found in games like Real Racing are better suited for hardcore racers. If it's anything like the console version, I'm expecting it to be like a combo of Real Racing and NFSU, and NFSU was better in my opinion only due cop take downs. I do hope for more steering options and customization. Can't wait. These next couple of months will be great for iPhone gaming for sure.

So, is this game going to have any street racing tracks? Or will it only have standard race tracks?

The real reason why EA delays things.......

I predict that when the sun fizzles out and the moons crash into earth the guys at EA will wake up (from all the explosions) and say "shit we forgot to submit NFSS, oh well lets just wait till this catastrophe is over. We can use it as an excuse. Ah ha thats a great idea. We also might be able to throw out some statistics to make it seem like were doing something....oh i got one "We are currently 75% done with the game and we are working on it with 110% 25% of the time. This statement is also 43% true 65% of the time".......thats a good one Bob. Lets have a celeration of Bob's great idea everyone"

Notice how they (EA guys) continue to get off track every time they get distracted. Thats the joke behind that paragraph.
