you hold on so long onto a 2nd gen.. thats brave.. there is barely any new games nowerdays who don't need at least a 3rd gen.. but a non hardware upgrade of the ipt actualy makes sense if you look and the twist apple made with their A5 line of products.. on the A4 the ipt was the last one to get the new hardware set ... here it would be at the same time the parts would be needed for the iphone 4s.. one can assume that the cost of the hardware is still too high to put thoose into a sub 200$ device.. or add 100-150$ on the device cost in the end we don't know if the specs of the ipt are even the same.. cpu could be higher clocked, it could have more ram.. all thoose details apple never disclosed on any of their mobile devices.. so one needs to wait till they hit the street and ifixit & co take a peek inside.
The 4S is most definitely an in-between generations device and I feel that they are doing this so that they can align the 5th generation of iPhone/iPod Touches to the release of the iPad 3. At least that could be one reason they didn't release any true 5th gen tech.
Buy a 3rd gen on ebay... can't be more than $60 and itll keep you in the loop until the new new one comes out...
I'm sorry but I must have missed the point in the keynote today where they said "The iPod touch will not be getting the A5 ever." This press conference was primarily focused on the iPhone. The iPod touch got a white model. They're obviously going to upgrade it eventually, and maybe even before Christmas.
I'm disappointed. iPod Touch owners (3rd and 2nd gen like me) got screwed over, if they were looking for a new update. Nothing changed and a new color? Horrible update. Might as well have not announced anything. For the iPhone, Verizon and Sprint's (future) owners are screwed with the same internet speeds (fast speeds are limited to AT&T's HSPA+), no batter update, no screen increase (biggest disappointment in my opinion) and basically not much changed for the better. The camera seems nice, but we'll see how good/bad it actually is later. I feel like since they didn't have anything significant to add/improve on, they should've stopped their once a year refresh cycle. I'm staying on the android boat for my phone. (and my 3rd Gen iPT)
Just curious but are the prices of 4th gen itouches staying the same in general? And what all devices will support iOS5? Just curious. I don't plan on upgrading at all from my 4th gen for a while. But honestly, I don't see much interesting in this new device besides the new chip. That's pretty much the only part that interests me at all. The rest feels like mini-things that I'll never use probly... I believe they start pre-orders Oct.7th, official sales 14th, and iOS 5 release on the 12th.
The phone is still going to be 3G, which is a huge turn off. I will most likely get Galaxy S2 and keep my 3GS for ios exclusive games.
Not sure what to do here... Should I shell out $199 for 16GB iPhone 4S or get an 8GB iPhone 4 for $99- and wait for an iPhone 6ish? Does it say anywhere if they will have a 16GB iPhone 4? I want at least 16GB. Time to get rid of the iPod touch and get a new iPhone. Haven't had an iPhone for years now, and I still have my ancient first generation iPhone in my game drawer
I had high expectations of an all new iPhone with larger screen. Been an iphone user since the original, but I'm defecting over to the Windows phone, specifically the HTC Titan, running Mango and sporting a 4.7" screen, once it releases next week (hopefully). I'll still be playing iOS games though on my iPad. If in a year there is a newly designed iPhone 5 released, I'll jump back in. For now though my wife will get my iPhone 4 to replace her 3GS...
Not totally surprised about the iPod Touch, at least will all the rumors floating around. I'll probably be getting a Vita now, or a Samsung Galaxy Player. Though the SGP doesn't seem very impressive other than it's large screen. If the iPod Touch 5th gen ever comes out and it's a nice upgrade, I'll probably buy it, for now though I might import a Vita since I don't like waiting
I am actually pretty excited for the iPhone 4S. Love all the new features shown off today and I really like the current design of it right now.
i was bummed. my ipod got jacked.. so iv been using my android phone.. nexus... to play games over the last 6 months.. was ready to get another ipod.. and no ipod 5.. guess ill just get a gen 3... will the gen 3 play most games, or should i dish out for gen 4? cash aint a issue parse.. thanks guys. and Hi.. been away for a bit. chris.
If you're going to get one, I don't see any way to justify getting the 8 gig 4 instead of the 16 gig 4S. The difference is $100, for a pretty significant increase in speed and graphical ability - not to mention Siri, which is absolutely incredible. Think of it this way: you're going to be spending over $1000 a year for the service, that extra $100 spread out over that length of time costs less than the upgrade on your texting plan.
