I like the logo, but I like the old one better. I totally agree with the switch, it is a good idea for the image of TA.
I like it. It's stylish and modern but it needs a bigger sense of what it is trying to represent. At it's current state, it actually looks somewhat generic to me. I get the whole 'A for arcade cabinet' thing, but that just isn't enough. The colors are alright with me. As far as the old logo goes, I rank them on the same level. Both are good, but could use a touch-up.
The old logo was terrible. I love the site, but that thing always looked like a rush job to me. As the front page post says, TA really needed to come across as its own brand and this new design does the trick. You don't need to look far to see that smart and simple is the way to go with brand logos (Swoosh?) and the colour scheme is brilliant; I've always had a soft spot for orange/yellow gradients. I voted for a slight change though, and rather than type the whole thing out again I'll just post my comment from the article...
I've gotta say, the new logo is growing on me. I immediately thought of Traveller's Tales logo when I first saw it. Interesting that with the old logo, the 'Arcade' part was orange, whereas the new one the 'touch' part is. To be a bit nitpicky, I find the gray 'a' in the logo kinda blends in with the grayish background. But more importantly, that tagline needs an update urgently - to "the latest in iOS gaming"
This was mentioned in the comments on the front page - "iPhone gaming" shows up on searches a lot (a lot) more that "iOS gaming".
I like the design, but I'm not so keen on the colour. In my opinion, lime green looks better and it kinda fits better with the arcade theme. And I know the "t" doesn't look 3D. I just changed the hue and couldn't be bothered to add gradients to make it look 3D.
The thin small text is incredibly hard to read when the background isn't the charcoal grey in the forums. Whenever you skin the front page you might as well not have the tag line. Even on the grey it's not the greatest - it's just too thin.
You're just grumpy that the tagline "Keeping you in touch with the latest in Dr. Porkenheimer's name changes" was voted down.
Figured as such - maybe it should be "latest in iPhone and iPad gaming" so you keep that in there - but isn't the tagline just part of the image (aka not related to search engine optimization)? In any case though, TouchArcade definitely seems to have the largest community for iOS gaming, so must be doing something right.
I like the green much better; vibrant and jumps out at you. The current color scheme is kind of bland and fades into the background.
yeah...word "iPhone gaming" is a specific reference only to iPhone but NOT iPad. In this case the forum is related to ALL iOS apps world...Better to replace iPhone to iOS...just a suggestion .
Man... all due respect and everything, but that looks garish as hell to me. Lime (or in this case: neon) green just screams "Geocities" and that's something every website on the planet wants to avoid I agree with the talk about the tagline needing bulking up a bit though. It's so thin it almost looks transparent in places.
Bright green isn't to everyone's taste but neither is dull orange. I guess my preference for green might be influenced by the fact that my beloved motorcycle is lime green
Is it funny that the add directly below your two posts looks like this? I was thinking some purple might go well with that green... Maybe if you just toned down the colors a bit.
Tweaked Logo tweaked, subtext cleaned up, "iPhone" went to "iOS" - a few subtles. So, it's now safe to get the tattoo, folks. bp
