I wonder too how big (in size) and how long (in gameplay time) the game is gonna be. Depending on those 2 factors, the price I would be ready to pay would vary. If it's a less than 300 Megs/10h game I'd gladly pay 9.99$ for it, but maybe not much more yet, since I don't know how well would the iDevice handle the game, we could say it's a premiere on the iDevice and for S-E, since FF I and FF II, were both simple games, that were only ported from the PSP and this one is an original AND in 3D. If it's bigger/longer as in 600-700 megs with 10h+ of gameplay, I would probably pay up to a max of 20$ (it's still a portable console game with no physical back-up (Box, cover art, booklet) which is a plus for a lot of the other 2 portable consoles fan like me). I have some difficulties paying something more than 10$ if I don't physically have the game with me. And I have some difficulties paying more than 20$ for a portable console game, but that maybe just me. For a first like this, I don't think that charging a too high premium price is a good idea. But if they can prove that they can produce a high quality original game (because S-E did make some other good games, but most were ports or were pretty simple) than can compete with the DS and PSP, they could start to charge a little more. But a too expensive price at first might just be a big turn off for a lot of gamers that are still not convinced the game is gonna be that great (it doesn't have the Final Fantasy name to raise its credibility and fame) and for a lot of hackers that would probably give it a chance at a lower price point. Finally, I'm glad to see a game like this that had a lot of potential, and perhaps the first real turn-based RPG on the iPod. It certainly open the door for ports of other PSX, SNES era RPGs and up-coming games like FFXIII Agito and Kingdom Hearts : Birth By Sleep (or a 358/2 Days Port). tl;dr : Great looking game, good potential, I hope it's not gonna be too expensive.
Forgot Yipe5? Most of you guys are talking about FF, but don't forget that Chaos Rings is not sailing under FFs flag. About the price: most are hoping for a 9.99$ price. I don't think this will happen. Take the price of a DS or PSP game - 30 bucks -minus no cartridge, no booklet, no package, no costs for shipping and storing and you'll end up at 15 - 20 bucks. Always remember, Apple wants their 30%. Guessing from the screenshots and the trailer, this game might be a FF / Monster Hunter mix. Giant monsters and epic battles ftw!
Just noticed that the first post mentions Takehiro Ando as the producer but I think it would be better to point out he was also the producer of Song Summoner 1&2. Crystal Defenders is a mobile port with no frills. After that SE let it be known that they were taking the iPhone platform seriously as a console and were putting out full games from now on. Though Song Summoner 2 started out for the iPod they really did a great job of taking existing code and making the most of what the iPhone platform had to offer. I'm really excited to see he is working with media vision on Chaos Ring
It seems you're right, pocketgamer states: "Developed by Wild ARMs creator Media.Vision, the game follows the story of a white-haired young man by the name of Essha (my own Romanised translation, not the final English name)."
It's Escher (saw it on the english screenshot) It's better if he's a black guy, not tanned guy. He looks like those asian teens trying to look cool by tanning and dying their hair. It just looks so immature.
Ah, I know what you're talking about! Hm... I like Eschers character design actually. But I like characters with white hair.
7.99$? No way - they sold even the ported versions of FF I & II for 8.99$ - each. Think about paying 15 bucks for this.
It probably won't be that big a download, if it's a tournament you go through 5 times they'll be able to reuse lots of sprites and textures
Sorry I meant original TB RPG; Vay, FF1 and FF2 are all ports of other console. And on a personal note, I played the hell out of FF1 and FF2, and Vay didn't catch me, mostly because of the controls. Yipe 5 never interested me, maybe the graphics or the humor in it. Would you recommend it? I probably voiced my opinion the wrong way. What I really meant was the first real TB RPG to catch my attention (and keep it). I've tried a lot of them on the iDevice and yet nothing grasped my attention like the old Dragon Warrior, FFs or even Pokemon.
Fair enough: Vay didn't grab me either. Yipe 5 is perhaps a bit too simple for me, but I'm planning to go back to it -- it's certainly well made. Have you tried Monster RPG 2? That's probably the closest you'll get to a NES era turn-based RPG that doesn't have the word Final on the title (though technically it's also a port).
I agree with Square. If you liked FF I & II, you'll love Monster RPG 2. @ Square: Yes, it is a port, but far more polished than the PC version. At that price of 3 bucks its easily recommended.
Ahhhhh MAN.... the graphics are reminicent of Final Fantasy 8..... A TRUELY GOOD THING.... If the game turns out to be a really well polished game that clocks around over 15 hours of gameplay then i would easily pay 10 bucks for it!!!!!!!!! I must admit that I did notice some framerate issues in the trailer.... hopefully they polish the up before its fall release!!!!!
Yes... people who received demo versions said that the game runs very smoothly - it's probably just an issue with youtube and the trailer..
