The game looks good, but I don't like the name. Sounds a bit like a gay porno. I suppose "Burning Rings" would be worse
Wow! It's a bit ironic that this game looks a lot more interesting than Final Fantasy XIII. Maybe FFXV should be an iPhone game altogether (just like DQIX was a DS game, I think it did a lot better than FFXIII has done so far).
FF and DQ are run by different development philosophies. The games may fall under the banner of Square Enix but the Square side still works like the Square side used to as does the Enix side. FF is a technological IP, the heads that run it (and indeed the fans that buy it) want the latest main iteration to push the latest tech of the day. The head (Kitase) is a self-confessed tech head and has stated the future of FF is the same as how the IP blew up to the success it is now (with FFVII), in its pushing of cinematic storytelling. DQ on the other hand has always been about the charm of the story / adventure than about pursuing a technological high standard. Indeed, the four plus million Japanese fans agree with this also. The head of DQ (Horii) once stated that PS2 tech was enough for him. However this IP has its own qualifier to what platform it will head on - the platform with the largest install base in Japan.
I was not entirely serious about the iPhone FFXV I'm well aware of the philosophies behind the two series, and they complement each other very well. But, it does seem Square Enix is running into trouble with their approach to Final Fantasy. The latest installment met quite mixed reviews and there were a lot of complaints about it's linearity. A representative of Square Enix cited that the reason for this was the quality of art in the game. Assets of such quality are expensive to produce, which means less content in the long run, even with the budgets of Final Fantasy. Fans may expect a certain cinematic value in the Final Fantasy games, but it seems the more gameplay is sacrificed on the altar of cinematics, the less content fans start to be. Also, the increases in the quality of graphics are getting gradually smaller. The next FF (the MMO not withstanding) may very well be a 3D (as in stereoscopic) game, but with the direction 13th game seems to set, would be it better as just a movie? Or should they start to work on the quantity instead of quality? At least, that's the image I get from the forums and reviews. Anyway, I find these forays to mobile platforms very interesting, as they continue to show that Square Enix still has quality game designers as well as quality artists. I hope Chaos Rings is successful and encourages them to release more original iPhone games.
That had less to do with HD and more to with that studios management. Versus XIII (by the KH studio) is even more technically impressive than XIII and has a real-time battle system, exploration and a world map. XIII's development troubles was due to the management of Toriyama and Kitase, and so it should be obvious to Kitase by now that his studio needs to shape up come further FFs. The whole "HD towns is too difficult" was just a very poor excuse because there have been plenty of HD RPGs this generation with large scopes.
Well that part is difficult to judge, not least as it is Media.Vision designing and developing the game (not SE designers) but also because we have yet to play the game.
They did make FFVII Advent Children. I for one would prefer them making movies as it's easier to enjoy for me
I definitely think, with their (albeit enhanced) port of Final Fantasy costing $8.99, that the launch price of this game is going to be higher than $9.99. Maybe not $20, though. $15?
Ah, ok. I hope they do, though. I just meant that I've enjoyed the previous mobile Final Fantasy games. I do agree that it's impossible to judge the gameplay of this one. Even as they don't develop the game in-house, they do have their reputation on line, and have an impact on how the game turns out, so that does give hope, but these things always vary. FFVII AC was great, and it is easier for me too to enjoy movies than 60+ hour games these days
I hope they haven't limited the game in any way to shrink the file size, I'd quite happily have a 1gb+ download for a FF7 qaulity game, I could delete all other games on my Iphone for this one if it was good enough. And I wouldn't mind paying $20 for this if it's a full 30hr + game.
is this for real?! this is what i'm waiting for in my whole iDevice life! i'm very very much excited with this one,i hope this won't be laggy on my ancient iPhone and i hope this will be a long RPG and a great storyline
......*gultch!* I jizzed myself when I heard this game will be released soon. Kind has the same game mechanics as the 3D final fantasy games.
Maybe so... I would pay any of those prices for a really good SE game... the gameplay looks like the combat in FFXIII
This looks really good! That video was awesome. Can't wait until it's released but it's probably going to be $9.99.
HOLY ****ING SHIT!! The first thought that came to mind was "Is this an Iphone game?". I'm definitly getting this on it's release date, even if it $9.99.
