No, you're confusing the word. It does not mean it is a SRPG. It just like any good RPG requires strategy in playing.
From the new description in the first post, I'm definitely intrigued, but I'm having a bit of trouble putting it all together. GDSage, from your reading of it, is there an existing game that's similar to Chaos Ring?
Not as such, the only similar game I can think of is one already in development by Capcom and was announced last year in September for the PSP titled "Last Ranker". It is an arena-based RPG where you fight (menu-driven) against competitors. That's the main progression, outside of that you explore areas to level up and gain new equips and skills. The game revolves around a male and female character, each one providing its own story / playthrough. It is basically a play of their own Monster Hunter just in a different guise and being a RPG rather than an action game. EDIT: I suppose the Tobal series and Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring are similar too. Though they are real-time fighting games but they were backed by a RPG mode where you took your character through dungeons to level up, learn new moves / skills and acquire new equips.
He asked for other games that seem similar and I gave him one. The premise and progression for the two seem similar.
So you are saying that "Chaos Ring" WILL be similar to "Last Ranker" (you know for fact), or are you GUESSING that it will be similar to "Last Ranker". Sorry, but I am a little confused at what you mean.
I'm not sure why this is an issue. He asked for games similar in premise (not copying from or exactly alike). Last Ranker is the only one that seems similar, but that too is a new game yet to be released.
Thanks GDSage -- that definitely helps. I wonder if SE is planning a world-wide release of Chaos Ring (with simultaneous multiple language versions) or rolling it out in Japan first. My guess is the former, but it's hard to tell at this point.
Well, they have trademarked Chaos Rings in Europe. That doesn't say it will have a simultaneous worldwide release, but it looks like it is coming.
So you're not guessing. Sorry, I never checked the original page to see if it was updated. Now it makes sense with the details and sources etc.
Yeah, additional info has been published in several sources. What he's guessing on is that it will be similar to "Last Ranker," though it seems to me that that's an informed guess.
Oh dear, my friend just sparked my memory on a certain game made by Media.Vision. Heavy Metal Thunder It is a robot wrestling game, set within an arena where the actions are not controlled directly but exceuted by a four command menu (in a d-pad like design). The game employs a rock-paper-scissor system: strike < guard < grapple < beat
The fact that Famitsu have already played a build of the game hopefully means that development is near completion. The story also reminds me a lot of the first Summon Night, which also revolved around a tournament. I'm hoping that the combat system is good, it sounds somewhat similar to The Last Remnant, though probably not as complex, obviously.
This made me "lul" , They obviously don't know Square-E Have they ever let us down in the graphics department?
