Sorry everyone for the lack of updates here.
I recently posted 2 guides that I never even posted here.
I'll link my most recent guide that I posted last night on my forum since that has a link to the first.
I promise I'll post more info on here soon. The best place to get the info for now though is the Calis Projects forum. I'm active there every day. But I will try to come here to this forum as much since i love this community.

The first is an attack guide.
How to learn and manage your attacks.
    The second is "Understanding ZENFORMS".
ZENFORMS are very different from creatures of the same sub-genre.
So let this explain now. This is taken from the guide I posted last night.
It should clear a lot of stuff up about the game.

    Understanding ZENFORMS

This guide is solely for the gameplay mechanics behind ZENFORMS and how they are different from creatures in other games in the sub-genre of RPG.
If you are interested in the storyline/legends/myths behind the ZENFORMS, go to here:
    http://www.calisprojects.com/zenforms/zenforms

ZENFORMS are different than most other monster creatures in the same sub-genre of RPG mainly for 1 reason. The Newborns.
See, all ZENFORMS ever, come from The Newborns.
The Newborns are considered the baby stage of a ZENFORM. An evolution gameplay mechanic was thought up that took inspiration of the theory of evolution in real life. Most ZENFORMS you see with 4 legs, most likely came from the Newborn with 4 legs. Most ZENFORMS you see with 2 legs, most likely came from the Newborn with 2 legs... And so on.

I'm not going to explain Skill Points, SP, and how it releates to growing a ZENFORMS stats.
    See this video for that:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r7SNP9eI6g
Note: Old footage but mechanic is unchanged

I'm also not going to explain in depth on how to learn new moves (although I will explain the move system in a bit).
    See this thread for that:
    http://www.calisprojects.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=119

First: Most ZENFORMS can come in 3 colors. Each color means the ZENFORM can learn a completely different moveset/movepool.

Unlike other games, while you do get first ZENFORMS, or starters, they are not rare or completely not in the wild. In fact, the Newborn ZENFORM is the most common enemy you will find in the early parts of the game.

You will notice something. The color of your ZENFORM you got off Principal Vicar at the start of the game does not match the wild ZENFORM.
Don't worry, this is core to the gameplay. You were given the "default" color of that Newborn. This same ZENFORM, but different color, is not just cosmetically different. A ZENFORM has a movepool. A set of 10 moves it can assign one of 4 attack slots too (see the link above for explaining learning and managing attacks). A different color of the same ZENFORM means it has a different movepool. That's right! A whole new set of 10 attacks. Well.... some attacks in that 10 might be the same, or common for that ZENFORM, but generally, a different movepool with a new set of 10 attacks.

You see, the same ZENFORM, might almost be classed as a new creature in other games.

Most likely, this same, yet different wild ZENFORM, will also have different values for it's stats.

Have a look at this card to explain that in a nice, easy to understand example image...
This image is using the Newborn Rinba (the 4 legged Newborn).

Here is where things get interesting
Again, check the youtube video to see how ZENFORMS evolve, know that ZENFORMS "branch" evolve.... A Newborn can evolve up through to 5 stages.
    Newborn > Child > Adolescent > Adult > Grand
Each branch evolution depends on a different condition at each stage.
ZENFORMS have 3 physical stats, Attack, Defense, and Speed.
ZENFORMS have 4 element stats, Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water.
(see that video on how you increase these stats)

For a Newborn to evolve into a Child:
The highest of the 3 physical stats at the time of evolution is taken into account. Remember, you can grow your stats how you want by spending SP you earned in battle, and you can evolve at any time through the menu if you have enough SP to spend.

For Child to evolve to an Adolescent:
The highest stat other than the last evolution stat is taken into account. An example if you evolved based on your Attack Stat to Child, the Defense or Speed stat is taken into account (whichever is highest).
If it's a wild Child, say a Rinrox (marked "Speed" on the chart below) - assume to evolve to the next stat Speed has been used, and it's between Attack and Defense.
If both other stats are equal, a 4th branch will be the evolution.

For an Adolescent to evolve to an Adult
The highest Element stat is taken into account. Yup, that means your ZENFORM can evolve into 1 of 4 branches. To increase the Element stats, just feed it an item from the shop. Check, some items have a secondary effect which may increase an Element's stat.

For Grand... Well it's a mystery
Well, in storyline speak it is. I'll reveal how to evolve into a Grand ZENFORM at a later date.

That was a lot.... So check this image card out
    [IMG]
Again, using Rinba as an example above, I revealed the first Child branches, but you'll have to find the rest in the game!
Now, times this by 3 for each color of Rinba.

It will be really interesting to see what moves your ZENFORMS have if you evolved right the way through since each time you evolve, you get a new movepool but keep your current known moves!

Yes, I know this is different, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask me.
I feel this system is super flexible, and will be really fun for you to play with!

Time for a new video guide. This time from the battle system. Sit back, enjoy, then leave the comments below as usual! :)

    Video Description:
First, check out this guide for Understanding ZENFORMS:
    http://www.calisprojects.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=123
What makes them different from other creatures of games like it. Find out how 1 ZENFORM is like 3 creatures from another game.

Now enjoy the video. The video was recorded using the iphone simulator, so any lag is because of my macbook 2009 specs. The game will run smooth.

So of course, this is ZENFORMS: Protectors, a 2D RPG for the iphone (iPhone app, but playable on iPad).

This guide will hopefully give you a better understanding to the battle system in the game. And yeah.... The gamble mini game is a lot faster on the device lol. I did say that. :p

Remember, it's just me making this game. No real team. So be kind in the comments below and make sure to click the Like and share buttons!
    Cheers.

This looks so polished well done. The only thing I'd like to see is some sort of shortcut to attack without going into the separate menu. Too much menu switching slows down the game. Otherwise I'm definitely insta buying this!

I agree about the shortcut. You could put it in one of the corners

Not sure if its been covered. Is there anything influencing the capture rate? Like easier if we hurt them first, sleep them? etc.

Love the video, I can't wait till you add animated moves. Would make it more appealing to the eye in battle. But love everything else. Well like the other guy said, would be better to have a shortcut to the attack moves. If you could just have it so we buy the moves in the menu and we tap on the Zenform to choose attack to attack with. That would be better.

I do recall in the Calis project forums that Neo planned to submit the game to Apple in 2 weeks? But that post was made probably a month ago now :)

I hope that the game can be fully completed offline, but perhaps add an online element to battle other 'trainers'. Can't wait!

For a person doing a game on their own you are doing a great job. Your work in the art and the quality of the systems is better than many large companies (game loft). I know this will be the number o e game in the monster genre.

The video looks amazing! The game mechanics are obviously thought out, executed well, good animations etc.. Keep up the good work! The only other question I have is about the depth of the game (maybe this has been covered previously).

How long do you anticipate the first episode to be (if I'm correct there will be a first part to this with several areas blocked out for future updates or is the full game released?)

After submission, it will probably take anywhere between a week to a month for it's release. Can't wait! :D
