I will be getting an iPad 3.

Off-topic: The Samsung Series 7 Slate is a piece of hot garbage.

Comparing the iPad 3 to the S7 Slate is like comparing apples to oranges. I find it quite sad that you chose to compare the high-end iPad configuration to the low-end S7 slate configuration. Let's not be so blatantly biased now, okay? And don't even try to justify the comparison as remotely fair just because the models have the same amount of HD space.

    -iPad 3/64GB/4G = $829
    -S7/128GB = $1350-1400 on NewEgg and Amazon.

Is $829 "damn near the same price" as $1350-1400? Math is difficult. Not apples to oranges? My !@#.

Stop searching for a tablet "PC" that will replace a laptop or desktop. If a tablet (see Samsung Series 7 Slate):
-requires a fan (which can and will get noisy) to off-put the amount heat it generates
-requires a mouse or keyboard to fully utilize even a few user applications
-has a 5-6 hour battery life
    -costs $1000-1400

Suck it up and buy a real laptop instead of this inbred red-headed stepchild or failed abortion of a tablet PC.

Anyone who can defend the aforementioned flaws (or pass them off as minor) with a straight face is most likely a blind, rabid Windows fanboy. I'm not saying your opinion is wrong but only that it is dimwitted, it is still your opinion nonetheless.

Ignored you (Goofy) by the way. You can reply though if that makes you feel better but I won't be reading it. :p

    Example:
A Dimwit: In my opinion, the letter A comes after the letter B :D

Will you please stop trolling or you want some assistance if self control is that big of a problem for you? You made your point. Now go back to your thread. Anyone who wants to discuss the non existing (yet) win 8 tablets and compare it to the now available iPad 3, feel free to speculate here... http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=124105

It wasn't as powerful as I hoped it would be, I think I'll wait for the next iPad. My iPad 2 should do fine till then.

Though it is worded way too harshly, I completely agree with every point made here.

But can we keep this to the Windows 8 thread please?

No really, I'm way better at Shadowgun than Gears of War. The touch screen acts like a mouse trackpad so you get that super accurate aiming like you would on a PC shooter. Obviously the buttons aren't as good as real buttons but it's not long before you get used to them.

I always wanted to watch a movie on a bent screen. :p

This is cool, but I'm sick of everybody getting angry at Apple in the comments of every YouTube video or article where anything tech is mentioned.

"Companies like Samsung, Microsoft, etc. show off tomorrows technology and truly innovative designs.
Apple shows off yesterday's technology with a shiny apple logo on it and calls it "magical" while overcharging for it."

I don't get it. Nobody gets angry at Google or whoever else, and Apple kickstarted this whole tech race. They're the ones who make this stuff fun and useable. IBM were making DOS-controlled PCs and Apple came up with mice and icons. Bill Gates came out with tablet PCs, Apple came up with the idea to make them worthwhile with mobile chipsets, capacitive multitouch screens and apps. MP3 players were around, Apple gave them large storage, an innovative touchwheel interface and more. (Not sure who) came up with Palm PCs, Apple went against all mobile phone providers and integrated them with phones, capacitive multi-touch screens, apps etc. Apple makes all this stuff useable to people who aren't total tech-wizards and that's absolutely commendable.

Overcharging? Then howcome every good Android tab is more expensive than iPad? A Mac costs more than a PC of it's same spec would, but the quality of every component is premium, you can record audio at near-studio quality from a built in mic, speakers you can't even see are hi-fi quality, the keyboard is wafer thin and the mouse is actually a touch-screen.

Fandroids have lately been referring to my Apple devices as 'toys', because apparently they aren't as functional, but on what Android device can I update my Tumblr or LinkedIn, book Cineworld tickets or shop on Amazon or eBay, without navigating an awkward site, order and stock-check from my local Argos without going through their books, find my next apartment to rent by pointing the device around, etc.? What can you do on Android that you can't on iOS? Tinker with the way it looks when you're not in an app... Connect it up with bluetooth to your video games and do silly showoffy stuff like that... Being able to change the desktop around somehow makes it a more useful device than my iPhone, despite my iPhone having all of these apps which it doesn't??

While it looks nice, Shadowgun is a dull, shallow experience imo. I really wanted it to be like Gears of war but, In truth, it's a million miles off that sort of quality. Gameplay aside, you're surely in a minority that find touchscreen controls better than an actual pad for TPS/FPS... Mouse+keyboard is arguably the best combo for precision control within an FPS. I played Quake 2 CTF for YEARS and was far better with 'precision' than with a pad. However, in all that time i never came across anyone who found a trackpad to a good option.

All subjective stuff of course, just found your comments odd. I might add that the impression of being "way better at shadowgun" may, in part, be down to the lack of any noticible ai :p

On the 'new iPad' .... I'm thinking i'll stick with my iPad 2 for now. Android doesn't interest me but i'm intrigued by the prospect of win8 tablets. Really like what i've seen of win8 so far.

Also, as much as i love my ipad, Apples refusal to 'cater for the people' is starting to annoy me.

    I still want Flash...
I still want to be able to USB transfer files etc
I'd like a HDMI out (built in)
    Removable storage

Sounds like a want a pc

To any UK people who have an iPad 2, Car Phone Warehouse are doing a trade-in service. £135 for most basic model up to £355 for 3G 64GB. Not too bad if you're wanting a new iPad but already have the 2.

You DEFINITELY need to grab yourself an Android tablet, the good ones provide all of those features! :)

Samsung make very iPad-like Android tabs, and they all support flash, allow USB transfer with full access to the file system through file managers, allow HDMI out (Samsung tabs need a converter for this but other Android tabs don't) and some support removable storage through USB and micro SD cards.

Howcome Android doesn't interest you? What do you think is wrong with it? Win 8 tablets are cool and all but they're insanely expensive, and most of the features of the Metro interface are borrowed from Android anyway.

Not disagreeing with that, the game gets incredibly repetitive later on, though I can't complain since it's a 5th of the price of it's console counterparts. I was just saying it controls well.

    Well bugger you then! :p

I never said better than a mouse, but the touch screen gives a mouse-like aiming advantage that an analog stick doesn't have, and the virtual-analog stick gives you 360 degree analog movement while a keyboard offers two-speed, eight-direction movement.

Yeah, the AI is crap, but god damn I hated Gears of War, it ruined gaming for me, it was the turning point at which every game became some kind of real life run-for-cover sim and forgot to be, ya know, fun. Dumb enemies make for fun games.

Yep, pre ordered mine today, I think if you have an ipd 2 and only use it to play games I can't see the need to upgrade, I'm upgrading from iPad 1, for the high res screen to create art with Should be great. The new autodesk sketchbook app looks awesome an the ten 1 pressure sensitive stylus.

Plus it's my birthday on the 14 th march:D

I would stick with my iPad 1 if I was just using it to play games on tbh I think a lot of the games recently are a bit samey, sick of the childish platform/cutesy physics games. It was kool for a while but the app store is starting to look a bit stale when it comes to the majority of games. Lots of clones and similar childish mini game/puzzle type things.

Thinking of buying a vita or 3ds for future handheld gaming.

I am still curious to see some actual performance figures comparing the iPad 2 and 3 (talking about framerate mainly,) but from what I've been able to gather so far, if your primary use for the device is gaming, AND you already own an iPad 2, it might pay to wait until next year to upgrade. This year Apple are selling the screen. Next year they should be selling the power to push stuff around on it.
