I'm a little frustrated by the fact that games are coming out that I can't play on my ipod touch 2g. Most of the games that do that are games I would buy, and I think the developers are losing money out of those games. Some games also cheat you out out of money, because on the itunes description it doesn't say that its not compatible with anything less than 3rd generation, so someone will but them, and be cheated out of money
Welcome to the world of Apple technology. Things that were once good are now obsolete within the year.
I've seen barely a handful of games that don't work on the 2nd gen. What are you buying? If they don't mention compatibility in the description, you could probably get a refund by contacting the apple store guys.
I haven't specifically bought one like that, because I always come to TA to see reviews before I but an app, and on TA you can find out what device its compatible with
well, im upgrading to gen 4 ipod come sept. lets face it. technology has to keep moving forward. i got several years out of my ipod touch2. and whoever i give it too will get several more out of it too.. come sept im updating.. what i did learn this time around. i must get the 64 gig.. with the 32 gigs i come close to running out of space... but have not yet.. but so yeah i put 500.00 away ready to jump the gun come sept. jobs we better get the same hardware as the iphone 4.. minus that whole bumper crap. chris.
I'm not mad about losing money, because I haven't lost any. I am however frustrated that I can't play a game because it wouldn't be compatible with my device Oh and Cilo, Nice pic
Haven't seen much yet, and I've got nearly 3000 apps in my library... Only game I've purchased and can definitely say is unplayable on 2nd gen iPod Touch is HTR High Tech Racing. (And I said so in that game's forum and on iTunes...) Even War of Eustrath hasn't given me as many crash problems as I was expecting to see (reported by the dev) Some of this I blame iOS4 taking up more memory. Either reboot before you play large games (or for long periods of time) OR go buy a copy of MemoryInfo and use it to free your RAM before you play.
Considering how many indie developers there are on the appstore, I doubt it would get much worse. Complexity and high quality are still a very rare thing in a store filled with 10 minute games or cartoony graphics. Also, the majority of apps which have "made it big" (plants vs zombies, sqh, doodle jump, words with friends, and others) work just fine on older devices. There are still plenty of people who use these older gen devices, so it just isn't good business sense to not cater to them. Some apps are now being released with high/medium/low graphics settings as well.
That's the thing, of course: the OP doesn't want to play a 10 minute game with cartoony graphics; he wants to play Xenome. For games like that, the situation will only get worse for 2nd Gen users, since code optimization is expensive and the difference in sales will likely not justify the costs (particularly once the next gen iPot touch is released).
Right now, games like that a rarity. But Dungeon Hunter, Hero of Sparta, Solomon's Keep, and other high-end games have worked just fine. It isn't hard to implement different graphics settings, although optimization/compression of any kind is a challenge on a platform like this. I agree that it will become a bigger problem, but not by much.
Yes I enjoy the fps games or the one where you're looking at the players back(dont know what its called), and most of those types of games will have trouble running on 2gen But if all else fails and I don't want to invest in a new Ipod, I will stick to playing Zenonia type games, because they are fun as well.
Every game I've bought works on my first generation iPod Touch. However, I usually do a bit of research beforehand to see if it will run fine.
