I doubt it. Doom Res was claimed to have released last week but I just heard its now supposed to release next month. Doom classic hasnt even like been started that much.
@Attack - Actually, Doom Classic for iPhone has been in development since at least April or May 2009, at least judging from John Carmack's blog posts in the idSoftware web site. I really don't care about Resurrection, but I'm a HUGE Doom classic fan, and would love to have it on my iPhone. Carmack commented in his latest blog post the following: "I have been spending the majority of my time working on iPhone Doom Classic for several weeks now, and the first beta build went out to some external testers a couple days ago. I am moving back on to Rage for a while, but I expect to be able to finish it up for submission to the App Store next month." That blog post was written back in May 28, almost a month ago. So here's hoping it will be released soon!
Maybe a Christmas on July 4th type of deal. Would be nice to see it within the next couple of weeks. Having a licensed version of Doom on my iPhone 3G would rock it, hard.
OMFG!!!! This is just another let down this week!!! the only thing yo do is pusing to buttons???? (and reload) OMG!!!! This is actually a bigger let down then vampire origins. GET CREATIV!!
Yea But you guys are making it seem like its so bad. Have you ever played Hill Billy? Same controls. Amazingly smooth. Best FPS controls on the Touch so far, but the game was incredibly short....
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Hill Billy is on rails, this game IS on rails. It leads you thru the levels as you aim and shoot at the enemies that pop out, kinda like House of the Dead. So technically it's not a FPS, but an on-rails shooter with a first person perspective. Just want to clarify so people aren't expecting a new Doom FPS, as far as I know the only Doom FPS coming out is Doom Classic (hurry the F up with that one id).
On rails just means you have no control over the actual foot movement of the game. The game moves for you, and you aim and shoot at things as emenies/objects appear, to put it simple. And I don't give a sh!t what anyone says, On-Rail Shooters still kick ass, and this game looks f*cking sweet. Personally I think FPS games blow on the iDevices. I mean they are fun and all, but On-Rails is the way to go for the iDevices. If I want multiplayer FPS action I am going to play Killzone2/CoD4-CoD:WaW/F.E.A.R.2, etc. I might get LiveFire just cause it looks awesome, but I am not expecting even that to be the best game I have ever played. That's totally personal preference though... I really find Arcade Rail-Shooters like House of the Dead, Time Crisis and the like to be quite entertaining and nostalgic at best. *shrugs*
There will be two camps of people when this game is released: 1. People who buy the game an enjoy it as a graphical and technical masterpiece of the likes that only Carmack can make and a really fun rails shooter. 2. People who will just complain on forums that it is a boring tilt simulator where all you do is wiggle your phone around and mash buttons who have never actually played the game. I played it at WWDC. It's awesome, and similar to most Id projects, Doom Resurrection going to set the standard of what the competition will be imitating in the future. Of course, that won't stop anyone from making knee-jerk complaints based on a YouTube video...
Preach brother...I for one can't see how anyone wouldn't give this game the benefit of the doubt. Carmack puts out a "little pet project" of his (Wolf 3D) that happens to be one of the best FPS on the iDevice. He gets excited about the platform, and helps create FROM THE GROUND UP, a game based on one of the most revered franchises in video game history, and people are already complaining. I don't get it. I am probably anticipating this game more than any other one out there. It will be an instant buy, and I have high hopes that this will be superb. I can't imagine it won't be.
\ I completely agree with these statements. Like wtf is so wrong with on-rails shooters? And especially for DOOM?! Made especially for this platform?! I mean I guess I expected a different reaction from everyone when I heard this but as it stands, this is a day one buy for me. I don't see anything but awesomeness when I look at videos for this game. It may not be what you hoped for, but it doesn't mean it is going to suck JUST BECAUSE it wasn't what you thought it would be. I dunno that's just me though.
