Hi everyone! I'm pleased to announce that I have just released my first iPhone app: Level Me Up! The idea for the app came to me while I was reading Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. In the book he describes the 10,000 hour rule, which basically says that research has shown that it takes 10,000 hours of practice in any skill to become an expert in that skill. The problem is 10,000 hours is a long time. It's easy to lose motivation somewhere along the line, as you're not seeing any progress. I wished there was a way to get constant feedback and motivation, much like you do when leveling up a character in an RPG. Hence LevelMeUp! In the app you can list the skills you want to conquer, enter the hours you train over time, and watch your experience bar grow! You gain levels and titles as you grow closer and closer to that 10,000 hour expert level mark. Anyway, check out the app if you're interested! --Ray Wenderlich
The self help book is an ancient beast that previously had no need to evolve. You have caused the first major innovation in this department that I've ever seen. Really. And marketing it to gamers is a smart idea with an interface like that. (oooh, stylish!) How much is it?
Nice idea and good luck! Here's the full info: App info is currently processing and/or the app is not yet fully available for sale on the US App Store.
That is an awesome concept. Buying it now. Damn, I've really got to stop coming to TA. Every time I come on here, there is something new to buy.
Interesting concept to say the least. It's true that lack of visible progress can be frustrating, but something like this would turn it into a kind of real-life Sims game in a sense. I don't know if I'd have the discipline to load this thing up every time I started/finished studying or practising something though, but this would probably work much better than other self-motivational techniques for certain mindsets. (i.e. gamers, like me. )
