Yes, you can pick which army you play as in single player (and who you play against). That's because there is no campaign. It's just one-off battles against the AI. This is a port of a board game after all. The base game comes with four armies (the same four as in the physical game), and there are four more available as IAP. Each army has its specific units and action tiles (though some units/actions are part of more than one army) giving each their unique feel. (If you want a 'campaign' of sorts check out the separate app Neuroshima Hex Puzzle, but that's not nearly as good in my opinion.)
@lookmanohands Thanks for your response.... so, there is only one terrain in this & a few armies who have their uniqueness, I suppose the puzzle is like a half played game, for us to complete, is that right?
I think you nailed it EXACTLY! They even have the tag line, "No AI. No randomness. No luck factor. Only you, your enemies and a lot of tactical planning." Bah. While I'm sure a GREAT way to really solidify your knowledge of the game mechanics, it manages to remove all of the aspects I like best about such a game. It feels like you've taken a fun game and turned it into some sort of academic test. Tell me more about the terrain on the NH (not puzzle) title, does the grid get bigger / there is only one size & we have been given a lot more options by 8 kinds of army where as the lite has only 2. Do the cards get smaller in numbers for every game? in simpler words, apart from the online play... whats the difference between the lite & the full version? EDIT: 1st Flawless victory! (Well, the full version also adds AI difficulty levels, 3-4 player games, and Game Center achievements.) You always play on the same board, and you always start with 35 cards in your deck. I'm a big fan of NH (I have all 8 armies), and highly recommend it. But if you are looking for a game with any sense of progression, this isn't it. All the variation in play comes in by playing the different armies. NH is a multiplayer game at heart, like TF2 single player is the same just against bots. The app basically replicates its physical board game incarnation the same way Carcassonne, Ascension, and Summoner Wars do. Though with how much it seems you've already played NH, I'm not sure how you could be disappointed LordGek Well-Known Member Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze Feb 19, 2009 12,282 141 63 Software QA Engineer Saratoga, CA, USA #746 LordGek, Jul 28, 2012 To partially answer your question, I think the maps size scales according to the number of players but there is no terrain, per se. There are some factions, like Neojungle, that can sort of modify terrain (it's really just a tile that isn't exactly a unit, action, or module), but there are no inherent map features. One of the physical game expansion added a number of neat terrain aspects (like hills, jungles, etc.) but this has never been translated into the digital version. I think part of this is due to the game's current modular IAP nature. Who would WANT to buy an IAP that introduces a lot of annoying terrain features? It would be kind of like saying, "Here's a $1 to add features that will only complicate things for me!" ultimo Well-Known Member May 5, 2009 3,840 1 38 #747 ultimo, Jul 28, 2012 @LordGek n @lookmanohands, Thank you both... for explaining me these things I am getting this & the IAPs... may be will see you peeps online sometime on my touch. Please keep it something nicely replayable! So while the story might setup, for example, a fight between NeoJungle and Vegas, don't then have this become some sort of scripted NS Puzzle affair but rather just a normal match between those two factions. Even cooler is if the player, at the end of the campaign got a score using something like the game's current career scoring system. Having a score at the end of a very finite number of matches means so much more to me then a very detailed scoring system (as it is nice and detailed currently) without a clear beginning or end (did he get that score from palying 1 game great or just losing 30 games?).
