I'm playing on a iPad air 2. I tested the temperature of the hotest place of it with a infrared thermometer. It is around 37 degrees centigrade, and the room temperature is 24. I feel it is quite acceptable. The hotest game in my ipad is Invisible Inc. The temperature was rising to 41 after just half hour playing...
I have that heating issue on my 6s plus. Same thing happens with titan quest. Both are fine on my iPad Air 2 though. I wonder if this is an iPhone issue.
I'm sure it is. But in actuality, at least for me, the graphics aren't all that great compared to other dual stick shooters like Space Marshall, Meltdown, and the one with that Samus girl that came out recently. When it comes to the gameplay itself, this games shines. I do wish the A.I. was better though. Even on a Retina screen the display options don't affect the visuals substantially, so I'm playing with almost everything turned off on the low setting. I kind of like it like this because it almost gives it a retro Sega Genesis feel.
Everything is great except for auto aiming. That option could change game difficulty dramatically. I have reached to 30th floor by using auto aiming at my 2nd try. It's just too easy and ridiculous. In fact, this game doesn't really require shooting skill at all. Auto aiming is ridiculous otherwise this game is great.
Massive thanks to all the players so far! We will see if we can add more "sleep cycles" if there's processing headroom on a device. We could call this "battery saving mode". (edit: just tested this option, looks promising so far) We'll also see if we can add an option to cap the frame rate at 30 with an option (this should also lower the processor demand in exchange for a lower frame rate). Some games are capped at 30fps on mobile for this reason. The iPhone 6(s) Plus has a massive resolution and the game renders at full native resolution. We could maybe cap the resolution at 720p and then upscale it from there. Basically the question is: Do you want the highest fidelity or lower processing requirements? We try to make these switchable options so that people who want maximum responsiveness and fidelity can continue to do so but people who'd like less battery drain would have more options as well. With new devices we should have a chance of lowering processing requirements a bit with some trade-offs. The older ones can be very tricky as they have comparably little power to begin with. Personally I've most time played on an iPad Air 2 and reflections switched off. This gives a nice frame rate while the power drain seems "normal" in this situation. "Normal" naturally depends on what everyone is used to. The game is very similar to PC and console version so it tries to use all the available processing power by default to maximize frame rate. This is probably a bit different from an average mobile game and it seems to become more apparent on certain devices. In any case, we'll see what we can do to improve on this front! I think we could have results early next week already. Thanks again for playing Neon Chrome!
Even so, Auto Aiming will decrease game difficulty a lot. My point is not about the difficulty itself anyway. I think without AA it is normal and enjoyable, not too easy nor too difficult. I just don't think that a shooting game should have an option that changes game play to be a 'no aiming only shooting game'. So, I hate AA. Xenowerk, for instance, did absolutely right on this point.
On my i6 no overheatting iosues, but i do play on low to get max fps. Einsenhorn for me was a killer - my iphone literally overheated and went into shutdown on it. I don't think game is too easy - it's a bit easy, but there's no autoaim on mfi (at least i do the aming). The issue with making it harder is the fps - space marshals runs very smooth, also frame pacing is correct, so you feel like the game is a lot more responsive (it does feel like 60fps). With Neon Chrome it's not the case - it feels choppy, even on low settings on iphone 6 is not really smooth.
I play on iPhone SE in High settings and the game is running silky smooth all the time, no overheating as well. Device gets warm but not more than usual.
Said it a million times in this thread, but again...my comments mirror these. Exactly. Also, the difficulty comments are absurd. You guys know the game is meant to be played over and over again with increasing difficulty, right?
I have a similar experience with the technical issues. I think there must be bugs on some devices. I can turn the brightness up brighter than the screenshots. The game is smooth as butter with graphics on full settings. The heating isn't an issue and while the game is a battery hog, it isn't any more of one than several other games. However, I'm starting to agree that the difficulty has been tweaked too far down for mobile. It took me 2 or 3 plays to beat overseer 1.0, I beat 2.0 on my first try and then just did the same with 3.0, first try. It should be more of a challenge, especially as the overseer levels.
I asked the same question earlier in the thread and under Carter's review - and I got a different answer: Neon Chrome. As it is, since it's on launch sale, this is definitely worth getting. But I plumped for Neon Chrome, so can't actually compare.
I agree with you 100%. I'm enjoying still my first run, and I love the strategic approach I can do against enemies. I still have to turn autoaim off, but I enjoy it as it is at the moment. I feel this is going to be the Infinity Blade of dual stick shooters: play over and over again with randomized levels. I also like how the main character connects to a machine and controls your character. It's like that Bruce Willis film I can't remember its name, where they control humanized characters.
