Hi all, I need a help on deciding stuff to buy and hopefully anyone can enlighten me because I'm really bad at this. I need to decide whether to get an ipod 3GS 32GB or an iPod touch 3rd gen 64GB. I have I phone 3g 8GB. I am satisfied with it except for the storage size, until one day the home button broke. Now, I need to press really hard and deep in order for it to register my command. I find it very frustrating when I want to quit a program and do something else quickly (like open a japanese dictionary after taking a note from my teacher, for example). Also, my music collection is also rising around 24GB now and I love my musics.. I also need to constantly delete many apps due to the storage size. Anyway.. I was gonna get the 64gb touch because it seems like the most logical for my "storage size" needs but I'll miss the moment when I just make a call/text while I open some apps or even when I play games. I'll miss the camera when I need to just snap something quickly. I'll miss the GPS. But! I'll get almost half the price of that off 32GB 3GS. Meaning I can buy another things with my savings. If I get 3GS 32GB, the storage size is decent, and definitely an improvement from that of my 8GB 3G. It's faster. Camera is slightly better. It will continue to do what my 3G can do and arguably at a better speed. I can put more apps and songs. The cons however, the price and my saving it almost the same amount. Meaning I'll spend my 3 months savings over a phone. My only concern is just that I hope they don't release 4G/iPhone 4 soon. If they do.. I'll be so gutted.. So, anyone that care, please kindly advise me whatever you have in your mind? I really need someone else that can understand my "geeky" need other than being told use the money to get a classy watch or something.. (got 2 already.. sigh..) and sorry for the length! Sincerely, Tora PS: also cons for 3GS is, that I still need to resume my contract with softbank (japan's service provider, like AT&T, etc) and so far, it burden me around $90/month with few text mssging.. well, its not something new, because it doesnt change anything, but I just figure I'll throw it up there.
My Opinion? Get the iPod touch 64 GB now. Then you can wait a few months and get the iPhone 4G if you wish. Also you you sell the iPod too if you dont want if after getting the iPhone 4G.

You obviously need a lot of space. 32 GB could prove a little too less for you if you decide to have all your music with you. I`m not sure how exactly the contracts work in Japan, but if it`s like US then you`ll need to splurge quite a bit in case you decide to upgrade to iPhone 4G later this year. Thats why I thought it`ll be a good idea for you to not get the 3GS now. iPod 3G will be a lot cheaper compared to iPhone 3GS. And selling it off should be easier too (as there is no contract/locked/unlocked BS to take care of) in case you find out it wasnt the best decision to buy it compared to the iPhone. Also it seemed like you were pretty much set for the iPod 64 GB. All you needed was a push. So I tried
I've had the iPod touch (both first and second generations) but it's boring (in my opinion that is). With iPhone you're connected to the internet anywhere, louder speakers, phone, microphone, camera etc. I like all that good stuff.
Thanks for the kind replies guys I can see it more clearly now. One thing though, how clear are we on the possibility of iphone 4G to be released this year? Because if it's still next year, I'll get 3GS now.
