Yeah, it looks kinda OK, but...does it have an open world gameplay ? or same old shit with races like Hot Pursuit and so on... And the controls look like same horrible controls as NFS Hot Pursuit. Why don't they just put some direction arrows to use ? at least for left+right, if the auto acceleration is enabled ?
From what I've heard it's not open world. Since peopel have been posting so many videos that are not of the iOS game in this thread, well now we can start compare it to the vita game (or to the 360, PS3 and PC game because it's the same!). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4a4w9tNxYc
The Vita version is years ahead of the iOS version. Is very similar to the X360/PS3 version. For the moment, i'm very disapointed in the iOS version. Maybe i'll buy it at 0.99$, but until then, only videos and hands on at friends.
Yeah, thanks for the tip. But it's out of my comfort zone. I play it on my iPad, for crying out loud. The technology has evolved and i am not the kind of person who is content with what receives, when it's about my money. I don't want to leave the app open in background. I have an obsession with closing all apps after using them. I just want an autosave function, maybe even with iCloud support, so i can continue over my iPhone. I don't get it. If the option is there, why the producers don't use it ?
Not all developers use iCloud because of the expense involved (servers) and the time and effort required to make an app iCloud compatible. Instigating it is not quite as simple as it seems.
It's not open world. The touch controls thing has already been brought to the developers attention. Whether they instigate it or not yet is unknown as the game is unreleased. On a touch device the gyroscope is far more precise than tap to steer anyway.
The developers of this is Firemonkeys. None of which you said applies to them. Dead Space and Real Racing 2 are the two true gaming masterpieces on iOS. Developed by the two studios that now make up Firemonkeys. So their pedigree and skill based on those games alone cannot even be questioned.
I'm gonna buy the X360 version, but i wanted the iOS version too. It seems the right choice to play it on the "run". I just don't get the developers. Why are they limit themselves ? If they have the option to store make a better game, why do they just do it ? I'm sure that the new iPad and iPhone5 (not to mention the future newer iPad) have a BIG processing power. USE IT !!! it's ok. I will pay 10-15$ for an iOS game, as long as the game is great. I'm sorry if i offended anyone. Honestly, after purchasing Hot Pursuit on my iPad2 (last year), i struggled to like it and i just couldn't. The controls are simply awful. Not to mention the graphics, but hey...they were old. So...for the new NFS, i just want an open world (even tough is smaller than the X360 version - see spiderman or batman, recently launched open world games) and a touch control.
It's not so much a hardware issue as it is catering to the platform issue. Since this is a mobile game, people will tend to play it in short bursts rather than investing hours at a time in an open world. It just makes more sense. Also file size is an issue... What I want to see from Firemonkeys is another Dead Space. They really maxed out the a4 chip, lets see them max out the a5-a6. I'm really hoping that "secret area" was in fact DS2.
Ok, fair enough I understand what you mean. Getting an open world racer onto an iOS device would be very difficult though. I'm sure it can be done say on iPad 3 with retina screen off and iPhone 5 but then they have to get it to work on anything lower, say a 3GS or touch 4, and run the operating system as well. There's no doubt the hardware is capable on its own of doing it on the latest devices but then if you have to rule out all the older devices, people will be angry, so they have to try and cater for the largest audience possible which simply limits their options. Whether I'm 100% right about this or not, I can't say for sure but some people who know a lot more about it have basically said the same to me. And Jbruu said it correctly above as well. You, me and him would probably happily pay 10-20 for an iOS version of Most wanted (full open world) but we would be in the minority of the App Store overall where most do tend to play short bursts and wouldn't invest as heavily. I still believe it will be a very good game and I'd love an open world racer myself but it doesn't seem as though we are quite there yet. Also, there is a very nice person from Firemonkeys that reads this forum regularly, so it is possible to put your questions directly to the developer and the least they will do is take note of what you are saying and try and incorporate it. If not in this game, at least the feed back will help them cater for everybody as much as possible in the future. They do come here for feedback from gamers so your opinion will be noted. (Just leave out the swearing is all I ask)
@ Rip73, that's a fair answer, but i just have 2 things to add. They don't have to make it available for all old models. If they make it available for iPad2/3 or 3 and above and iPhone5 i don't thing that so many people will be mad. Let's face it. The decision of making this on a larger "scale" of available models is so that they can earn as much money as they can. There are games (for example - Machinarium or Wonderputt) that work only on the iPad2 and above. As for the money, there are a lot of Sqare Enix games that cost a lot of money and have plenty of success. Examples - The World ends with you - 19.99$, Chaos Ring II - 19.99$, Final Fantasy III for iPad - 16.99$ and so on. Well, if there is really someone from Firemonkeys that reads this forum regularly, please put a touch control option in the menu. I'm getting hit and tired of all the car games out there that have only the tilt controls. GTA III is a great example of "it can be done". On the other hand, if you can make controls better, Real Racing series is a great example that tilt controls can be good.
razvanrazy Please... Don't talk about controls here, specially touch control. It may be contagious! The developers knows... NFS MW will be available for all models, because the other four NFS are available for all models.
Personally I would love to see more games that work only on the latest devices but I think I might be in the minority there. It's easy enough to get new devices when they come out for me but others wouldn't necessarily be in that position. And the unfortunate thing is that if they spend a year (or more) developing something, simple economics dictate they must try and sell fro the largest possible audience. It may seem like a money grab to downgrade effects so it can run on lower devices but its not. They simply have to sell. Otherwise no development at all. Yes there are some that only work on iPad 2 or higher for example but numbers they sell at makes it very difficult to make money. And despite the fact that a lot of talented developers do it because of their love for games and developing, they still do need to make some money. With ref to Square Enix, their pricing is unique and certainly not the norm in the App Store. The App Store is still primarily casual gamers so a lot of them don't buy at that price. They still sell well because they appeal to the long term hardcore gamer that is slowly starting to make their presence felt on the App Store and hopefully we will see more of that happening in the future. I personally find Firemonkeys to be one of the few that put real and genuine effort into making a fully featured console like experience onto the platform and have shown in the past that something of real depth like Dead Space and Real Racing Series can work and be successful on iOS, so I am always anticipating their next project because it will move the platform on. Hence why I'm so excited to see the final result of this and RR3. And when you say that Real Racing had controls right, you're certainly saying it to the right developer in the right thread because they are now the same studio and I've no doubt the two teams helped each other out
This screenshot i hadn't seen so i decided to post it! NFS Most Wanted - iOS Screenshot Passons au jeu. Graphiquement, Need for Speed: Most Wanted pour iOS est absolument magnifique.
Thanks for that, hadn't spotted that vid yet. Hopefully it will be out in a couple of weeks. Could do with some smash em up racing soon.
