Okay. Enough heard: No multiplayer at all (can't believe it, what a shame)? No iCloud (or something similar)? Less than 30 fps on iPad 3 for some people here? IAPs for $50+ with paywall? Lousy 2-3 hours of gameplay? tA/Hodapp: "…the only car customization to speak of is changing your paint job. This costs in-game money too, which is a little annoying." Although being a heavy racer fan I'll buy NfSMW when it's around $.99 maybe… Playing happily Asphalt 7: Heat (full version for $.99, no IAPs needed, career gameplay 10+ hours, detailled car customization, rock solid 60 fps and fancy online and local multiplayer) with my friends for some more weeks and months. NEVER gets old. And the music is even better. Sorry tA/Hodapp (there was never a comprehensive review about A7, what's a shame as well) and Sanuku: You all have no idea of racing games.
Is it possible to disagree with someone's opinion without telling them they don't know what they're talking about? I think so. You wouldn't know that though by reading though some posts here.
I am a huge tA fan, it's by far the best site about iOS gaming. But at the same time tA is a completely mess when it's about racing games, my favorite genre. You are completely missing the best of all iOS racing games. Try to download A7 and fire up a local multiplayer session with some buddies. And then think once more about giving five stars to which game. I am not a Gameloft fan. But with A7 they've done everything right. And they care about. It was the very first game in town being updated for iPhone 5.
Just found a video of it running on an iPhone 5 and it looks amazing. It may not have an open world like the PS Vita version, but from what I've seen the iOS version has better looking graphics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnanYn5AdpU#t=0m18s
Less than 30fps on iPad 3? Not on mine. Game looks and runs flawlessly. Good to know upgrades are single use. Will avoid those. Heard people completing the main game in 3-4 hours w no paywall so I smell a red herring there. Haven't bought A7 - stopped at A6. I enjoy both series and this is the best NFS for mobile yet.
Liking this game so far. Awesome graphics and the tilt control is great for this one. Doesn't hurt that the first car you get to drive is an SRT Challenger, which is what I drive. Looks exactly the same as mine after I sprayed it green in the game. Only wish it had real multiplayer instead of just competing for times. Also this game would have been epic if it had the open world capability like it's Vita and console versions. I'll be getting this on the Vita and 360 though anyway, still would have been awesome to have that for iOS as well. I'm more of a Burnout Paradise fan, and this game, more so the other versions, is pretty much Burnout Paradise 2, so it's right up my alley...
The touch wheel control is a joke. If I new that was the only touch option to race I wouldn't have bought this
I'm the one who said I completed the game in 3 odd hours. Yes, I used NO IAPs at all. I am a fervent non-believer in IAPs (see my sig). HOWEVER, while IAPs are not needed to win the game (you will to retry a few times towards the end, but thats only because races become challenging and its not an artificial paywall), they seem necessary to get GOLD stars on some of the races 75% into the game. Even the mods wont suffice. And mind you, I got clean runs all the time still no GOLD. So yeah, they push you to IAPs or grind for millions of $$$ AFTER you finish the game if you want all GOLDs. This is simply my opinion. If someone else disagrees, please let me know.
I agree with you partially. The game has no depth. Its shallow in that manner. But in every other way, this game is a BOMB. 3-4 hours of gameplay just to win (you can replay later for all gold medals) does sound a little low, but in the end is OK. You get your monies worth. Don't agree with your IAP stance (see comment above). Asphalt does seem a little better gameplay wise (knockdown and drift challenges are the ones this game doesn't have). But in every other way really, NFS beats it. I gave A7 3.5 stars, this gets 4.5. Speaking of that, the reason this game doesn't get a 5 from me is because of the wanting gameplay. Also an upgrade system could have been added. But on the flipside, that would have made things a little more complicated. So, at the end of the day, I merely ask for a couple more challenge modes, especially drift and knockdowns. If those were in, this gets 5 stars.
Paying for mods to get an advantage for a race is no different than paying for a sponsor to do the same thing in Asphalt 7. These mods are cheaper and easier to get than Asphalt 7 though. The graphics are amazing, the achievements add an extra challenge and incentive, and it is so easy to drift. Having so much fun with this game. A little different than some of the other Need For Speeds, but I think it is the best one so far on the ios.
Just a heads up, in total there are perhaps 60 races. I only used mods on 4-5 occasions, and that also to try and get Gold when it was impossible otherwise. To merely complete the game, if you are smart in your car purchases, you DO NOT have to use mods at all (well, maybe apart from that one occasion I had a terrible muscle car on a speed run). You must be quite terrible at racing games to complain of needing mods to progress an hour into the game. Protip: Don't bother getting all Golds early on. Just progress. You can come back later and get Gold a little more easily with better cars in each class.
This is an arcade racer, so mostly smooth corners. I only need to hit the brakes at most once per race, mostly not needed. Mind you, this is an arcade racer, so the cars can go ridiculously fast around bends. For that very reason, I never liked NFS on consoles and rather played proper racing SIMs like Formula 1 (God I wish it comes to mobile someday!).
Asphalt HAS drift challenges and K.O. races (among six types of races freely to choose from and a LOT of challenges/achievements). The controls for drifting are accurate and can't be improved (we are only playing with tilt steering controls): Just lean into a curve and push the brakes for a millisecond, drifting will stay until you go straight ahead again and/or launch some nitro. A racing game without (local) multiplayer is a complete no go for some friends and me. This is essential: Asphalt 7 supports rock solid Bluetooth and WiFi local mp with a LOT of configurable bells and whistles just for this mode. You can connect iPhones, iPads and iPod touches (Android, I'm looking at you) in the same game. A6 even supports mp with a Mac (never seen in another game)! (There is no A7 Mac version.) In a racer the multiplayer mode gives you a complete new gaming experience which is NOT possible with ANY console hardware. (They still have split-screen on a distant monitor, haven't they?) Get all the details of supercars and exotic tracks in Retina quality just in front of your nose. Not ONE cable. Easy set up in twenty seconds. THIS is what I call a social experience! Far better than online multiplayer believe me please. We are playing it for hours, days, weeks and months! Always NEW and never expected situations in a race! Endless gameplay value. Pure iOS power!
And if I'm not mistaken NFS doesn't even have a decent Quickplay option. Really expected more bells and whistles from Firemonkeys in that regard ....and of course some multiplayer options.
Looks fab on iPad 3. Ca t say if retina or not - I don't know such stuff. Not blurry - looks awesome. Playing on my iPhone 5 now - just crazy. Don't believe there is cloud support. May be wrong or perhaps cloud and at least local multiplayer come in an update. And thanks to those who mentioned A7. I didn't have memory for it when it came out and forgot about it. Will likely add it to my garage today
