I'm streaming music over simplify media app while I go to sleep. Is there any way to shut off the itouch with a timer while running this program? Otherwise, it will just play all night and drain the battery.

Leave it plugged in at night and it won't run out of battery

They both charge the exact same way.

Okay, so you can plug it into the charger, but what's the point of having music play all night through the speaker when no one is listening? There has to be a way to set a timer to shut down the itouch. Even my ipod nano has this built in. Seems like a very basic function that is lacking on the itouch.

Go onto the default 'clock' app. Click timer, then change 'when timer ends' to 'Sleep iPod' then enter your time you want before it turns off.
I do it as almost every night I listen to music/podcasts while getting to sleep. I input the length of the desired music length/podcast length and then it automatically locks my iPhone and turns off the sound.
I do it to protect my ears, as I don't think listening to music all night is very good for your ears. It also saves battery.

Thanks. I had moved my clock app off the front page and completely forgot about it!
