I wondered this same thing, then got told it was a weird complaint by an employee of this site... Seems strange to make an entirely separate app, including the same content as the original game, but with the addition of DLC.... normally you just add the DLC as an IAP.... My complaint still stands. It’s just a weird way to do things.
.... I would rather pay for DLC in an app I already own, the purchase and download an entirely separate app for DLC.... like... I’m failing to understand how this is an odd complaint...
"Oh, I'll just buy this three year old release that is mentioned nowhere on the app store listings but which some obscure forum which I don't visit reveals has just had a DLC pack which adds like two characters or sth tagged onto the original content for free when it would have cost £3 if I owned steam and had a PC on it and bought it as DLC." Said no-one, ever. I kinda get their drift, and - despite having the original still installed on my phone - can't complain at all. It's a tremendous game that I'm genuinely loving revisiting from the start.
You then hit a submarket (people willing to buy DLCs) of a niche market (people who bought the original - launched in 2016 - and who've retained it on their phones ever since, despite it being 2.2gb). Gotta be honest, I wouldn't've bought this as a DLC. Haven't fired the original up for too long, and would've wanted to play through a chunk more original content first. IMO this - a new launch / relaunch - is a far more sensible marketing approach.
TA literally advertised the release of the DLC, and what does the age of the original app have to do with anything? Your logic is flawed: Wayward Souls, a game released in 2014, is still receiving updates and attention, and could potentially be looking at additional content added to the game...and I dont believe that they are releasing a new build strictly for the additional content. Everyone is glad this is working for you. Stop arguing with people that dont share your opinion. This is really annoying. I (and others) are failing to see the logic here. Period.
perfectly understand you point, but you have to think about the positive side: in cases like this one, ie a relaunch + dlc, you can have the complete experience without downloading nothing else, even all in a file (if you still can download it on your PC/Mac through an old iTunes version), while in the other case you should buy a dlc inside the app at a later time, right? what if devs decide to leave the appstore (unfortunately it happens more and more often) and all the downloadable extra content is not on Apple servers? you'll have the old base game to download through your purchase list, but you will no longer be able to download the extra content. it happened to me more than once, and what i most regret is the case of the old Guardians of the Galaxy game by Marvel, an excellent turn based srpg that i can install on my device (still have the old ipa file backup), but that doesn't work anymore because it requires an additional download to run. so i guess in this iOS universe is always better to have the entire experience in one file... we're not in the PC world here, where you can find everything just searching in the web and then install old files + dlcs, extra content, extra soundtracks, etc etc.
yeah I totally get where you are coming from and truly appreciate the non-snarky, un-sarcastic response lol. That is a good point about apple removing an app without DLC... when one exists that does have it. THAT I can totally see. Well done sir, you've officially argued your point, and equipped me with a better understanding. I love this game btw.... Im not hating at all. Just seemed like a weird choice to me lol, have been enjoying the hell out of playing this game again however.
Oh lawd, was I supposed to be getting paid by TA...all this time? O_O I'm a "Staff Member" in the sense that I keep these forums clean, but I don't work for them. I don't speak for anyone employed by the site, anything I say or do is not endorsed by the site. Just because I love death metal and puppies, doesn't necessarily mean TA does.
LOL. I suppose employee was a stretch... so a “staff member” told me my complaint was weird.... You can’t be that bad tho.... metal is sick.... and puppies. That, and I love TA. Thanks for all you do on the forums breh, not tryna be an ass hole. I am one tho... LEELEL
This is my question as well. Too many games aren’t optimized to the point that I’m starting to be much less likely to pull the trigger on a purchase. Especially a game like this, if it’s not optimized to accommodate the navigation bar you’re absolutely hooped if you’re really going at it. I still don’t understand how some ancient games can “respect” the navigation bar but newer titles just ignore it entirely. I wish there were rules in place sooner to ensure all apps were compatible with the iPhone X and up.
I think we all have asshole complexes in one way or another. I wasn’t trying to be one either, but I can see how “odd” might’ve been the wrong choice of word. I’m very passionate about NecroDancer so I might’ve gone on the defensive way too quickly. Forget it.
Good to hear. Though kind of disappointing they didn’t also update the original version for those that don’t want the new one.
Last I tried the original (when buying a XS) it was an absolute mess on this phone, and iirc it wasn’t just the screen resolution. Just throwing out random thoughts, but maybe (much like Rocketcat, who were already brought up in this thread), for whatever reason, they felt like updating the original (with the issues it ended up with on modern devices) just wasn’t worth it, and are trying their hand at releasing an all new app to (hopefully) give NecroDancer the attention it deserves.
I don't know the exact reason for sure, but having a paid app that also says "Contains In-App Purchases" in the App Store is probably a huge red flag to a lot of people, and is likely the reason they wanted to release a brand new app instead of an IAP to the original.
Oh yeah, there's that too. I'm positive the last thing Brace Yourself needs is people thinking "Oh look, NecroDancer's on the App Store but it's freemium AND paid?!?!?!". Oh, and for clarification above regarding Rocketcat (and this), I meant updating Wayward Souls with new content.
I half wonder if Apple should change the terminology. Rather than “in app purchases” have a different delineator, something to denote more content rather than add one? I dunno. I’m one who has issues with consumable iap in most games, but I’m completely okay with offering more content for more money ESPECIALLY in situations where the game is already painfully cheap. I mean compared to what I have paid for some switch games, it’s almost criminal how inexpensive it is for the equivalent games on iOS devices. I watch the TA switcharcade posts like a hawk (thanks for helping me spend more money, jerks ) and I’m constantly amazed at the insane prices of the same games I can get on iOS. Anyway, I’m just thankful this game is here, and I’m astonished that’s it carries with it the original game as well and at a lower price point than the original. Weird ask, does this have MFI support? I’m a little sad there’s no Apple TV version, as I loved having the original on my tv, too. I think I might have even played it more there. Edit: nvm, it does - says so right in the description
How do you unlock zone 2? I beat the “big boss” and unlocked a new character but zone 2 is still locked... what are the unlock requirements?
