The time has come, folks. The event will be streamed here on Thursday at 11 AM PST: http://www.nasa.gov/ Hopefully it's something interesting.
Sounds interesting. But when you read what they say and interpret it correctly, it sounds like it's a discovery that's been made on Earth that will widen the search zones for extraterrestrial life. For example the discovery of extremophiles on planet Earth have shown scientists that organisms can live in extremely hot/acidic conditions.
Are you serious? That would be huge. The benefits are not even measurable every biology book would have to be changed do the ailens have DNA their would be a new field of science it would change the world. I hope I'm alive when it happens.
I was looking at the list of attendees for this press conference, and the one person missing here is Pres. Obama. I'm serious...if he was attending, then yes, they've discovered an alien, (and I don't mean microbe either). If this was bonafide alien unveiling, our commander in chief would be holding the press conference.
Yeah. It's definitely not an actual alien. Maybe a living cell or something but definately not life as we know it.
We could bump into Aliens which are behind us in their technology, that'd be pretty interesting because it would be old fashioned but different. And I think it'd actually be a pretty cool way to die if Aliens invaded. I would actually be excited if I read in the news tomorrow that Aliens were going to invade and nobody would be alive by 2011.
As cool as finding alien life less advanced than us would be, the odds are really not in our favor. Think about it, the universe is about 4.6 billion years old, humans have been around roughly 500,000 years. That means our race has been around close to 0.0001% of the entire universal timeline. The odds that an alien race actually developed in an even smaller fraction of time is very, very, very small. Heh, interesting to think about the second one.
It's common sense to think that the government knows about "alien life" *(if it truly exists) for God knows how many years. It's just a matter of time for someone, in this case NASA and who better than the U.S President, to reveal this shiz once and for all. If Obama is there, we might just be close to that moment.
Well, with the size of the Universe and the so little we know about it, it's hard to predict the odds. For all we know, there could be planets forming and life is still evolving in early stages as we speak. Although I agree that we would almost definitely encounter alien life that's more technologically advanced than us. Not because of those predicted odds, but because on the grand scale of things, our technology is probably still extremely primitive and basic. And the chances of us and another low-technology planet finding each other are slim. I think Aliens will find us before we find them. And if they come for a war, then I'd be so amazed I wouldn't mind about dying
"But our own investigations suggest that it follows a breakthrough in the discovery of microbes in a deadly poisonous lake that get their energy from arsenic. Experts say this shows they had a completely different origin to any other creature known on our planet. It means that life began not just once but at least twice on Earth." http://skymania.com/wp/2010/11/alien-life-form-is-here-on-earth.html/ Interesting stuff.
