Again, I think he was mentioning the gameplay aspects of Doom besting this, not the graphics.

I don't how anyone can compare the graphics to doom ( No offense Geeky Dad)

The graphics are cool imo. This is the only zombie game on iOS that has this many differen't zombies with differen't afflictions on one screen.

I think this game improves on everything the first Nyzombies had. Graphics, gameplay, storyline, options, everything....

I really like Dead trigger too, but there really isn't anything to do but shoot, whereas with NY zombies 2, you have a great storyline and missions. Sure the game isn't perfect but a darn good one.

    Graphics are ok.
Zombies spawn from nowhere, half of their bodies walking through the wall...
It took me 5 minutes to take the key on the floor.
I had to be kind of far from it for the small hand to appear.
I go back ward the very first time I put my fingers on the pad instead of going forward (something I experienced with the other Trigger but not with Dead Trigger).
Even if the story seems to require more thinking than, say Dead Trigger, I like the graphics and the controls of Dead Trigger way better.
Taping on the screen is nice for the knife but for the gun? not so much...
not much fun with it alas for now

    I don't think so.

    He does specifically say

and that seems to be a comment on visuals, not gameplay.

As someone who claims to write professionally about games with the last five years, perhaps he should consider playing it before reviewing it or commenting on it.

Haven't bought it yet, but I am going to buy it soon! :D just wondering tho, is there another control set up that's like the one on mc/nova/dead trigger? Like with a shooting button? If not, how do you shoot?

    My review of this game.

    Story: 6/10
    Graphics: 6/10
    Addictiveness: 5/10
    Controls: 3/10
    Overall quality: 7/10

    Rating: 5.5/10

I would say that the game feels like it has been released too early, as in about 5 months early, there are glitches, the maps feel incomplete (some things are really good graphics and some is really bad), and the controls are awful. I do think these can be sorted out though quite easily with a big update.

Just feels quite rushed to be honest, but other than those quite big problems, it is a nice game I will play from time to time.

Not yet at least... though once you play you'll realize this is not a traditional shooter, so a traditional control scheme just wouldn't really work! You'll constantly be switching between weapons and equipment, and there are many more enemies coming at you than in games like MC, NOVA, or DT. Its hard to describe without actually playing :)

But to appease those who still may want a more familiar control scheme, we're looking into adding a traditional one anyway ;)

You must've beat the game pretty fast in order to rate the story! :) How do the maps feel incomplete? How are the controls "awful"? Thanks in advance.

I can't seem to find the bolt cutters on level one. I found something on the floor that had an arrow pointing to it - but I can't seem to do anything with the chain or find out what I picked up (if it wasn't the bolt cutters).

I guess it was a key I found, and it helped me get to the bolt cutters where I died from my low health from wandering aimlessly. At least now I know what I am doing and how to pick up and use items.

When is multiplayer available? After the first level is done?

No I haven't completed the story yet but I felt it was right for what I'd done so far.

The maps feel incomplete because some parts are highly detailed, like people, zombies, indoors places. The cars are alright, but some things like trees and and the background are a little 2d and give an instant incomplete impression to the area,

The controls, well, perhaps they will take getting used to, but I've never taken this long to get use to controls, like mc3, nova and dead trigger were all pretty easy to use straight away, but the controls on this feel a little rigid and uncomfortable, like you never have 100% control, the turning is slow, the shooting should have a button really, the aiming feels awkward and when you get cornered by zombies you feel like there is no way of getting out of the situation, and killing them close up is difficult. There should really be a run button aswell.

Sorry for the criticisms it's just an honest thought on the game which I feel could have and should have been better

One thing I have noticed Jamie, is that there is a slight lag on the my Ipod 4G (32gb model) also when using iron sights, there is a recoil when shooting, the gun goes to the right.

That is the M16 that moves to the right when your shooting. Does not aim straight with iron sight on.

No, see THIS is what we appreciate :D... we can make NYZ2 better if more people would give this kind of thoughtful criticisms. Some of those things you mentioned we're already addressing the in first update. I don't mean to be rude, but your "review" at first just sounded more like a bash, than constructive criticism. THIS is excellent, and will help us make the game better! Thanks again.

Well it's good that you actually do things to change the problems, there are some companies that release a game and leave it at that :)
And sorry I never meant for it to sound like a bash, haha :p

Nope, I love them too. I don't really understand how people can complain about them. It's a phone. Also this has distance. Nearly all of dead triggers levels are in alleyways with high buildings surrounding or inside buildings. This feels like a big city.

Edit: I'd just like to add that I don't have a problem with the controls, on the iPhone, tapping to 'shoot from the hip' works perfectly. And in using the iron sights a lot more now I'm speccing into to marksman, so the difference in controls between the two makes perfect sense.

But on the iPad. It's to large to be confortable at the moment, so I would definitely second the suggestions for an alternate scheme for that.

I do also find that sometimes. And for me it's been infrequent, that the zombies appear from nowhere. Don't know if that's because I've inadvertently parked myself on a spawn point. Or if its working as intended, but I'd suggest that, If its the latter. It shouldn't work that way :D

First of all, we want to thank everyone who picked up NYZ2 so far, those who did and didn't like it. If you have issues, we hope you'll keep it installed and wait for a few updates to hopefully get just what you were looking for!

So, we've been working all day cooking up the first update... here are some things you can look forward to:

    - fixed slowdown on iOS 6 on older devices (this will affect those with iphone 4 and below)
    - fixed a multiplayer matchmaking issue (iOS 5 matching with iOS 6)
    - icloud/save data fixes
    - added alert if trying to play coop and not logged into gamecenter
    - show co-op arena/survival tack from the beginning, to let players know that it exists :p
    - increased sensitivity, especially on iPad
    - inverse look options (vertical and horizontal)

Things we are working on/fixing, and hope to get in this 1st update:

    - traditional control scheme option (no tap to shoot, standard reticle in center of screen when firing from the hip)
    - dynamic move stick (placed where you put your thumb)
    - enemies will no longer clip into walls

I think there are some other things, but we'll keep you posted.

Bah, needent have bothered editing my previous post, you're already covering the iPad control stuff :)

Thanks for listening. It's a great game IMO, and shows much more promise as well.

I am. It plays pretty smooth - at least on iOS 5.1.1.

Finding the extra journal pages, and prepping my airsoft guns for the weekend shenanigans has given me an idea.

In addition to the usual upgrade paths, you could maybe add 'rare drops' to the levels. Something along the lines of 'you've found a hi-cap magazine/tighter barrel/scope that could be applied to a weapon of your choice. (To a degree.) that would permenantly increase that weapons stats in a particular area

I dare say balance could be a problem, but the customisation options that would afford would be epic.
