why are people calling multiplayer a "nice addition?" it's a feature (rather important one imo) in a product gameloft is selling. do you think gameloft would even bother spending the time/money developing such a blatant halo knockoff if that game wasn't so successful? and how much of that success is due to it's wonderful multiplayer integration? yes, people have gone off the deep end complaining about how half-assed the mc:s update was executed, but customers have every right to. i just recently bought mc:s, flexed with my router to enable upnp, dmz'd my ipod, installed 1.2 and still have to have any success other than tallying how many different connection errors the game can have. the single player is laggy as well. i'm just not too impressed with gameloft right now. but that aside, i wouldn't be surprised if i end up buying nova some time this week anyways (price point/what all the toftt's say depending...) on the other hand, just got done with my first few rounds of online deathmatch in toon warz. i'm in love.
Indeed. If Gameloft advertises a feature of a game very heavily and it doesn't work, they deserve the criticism they get for not doing it properly. It is excusable in Sandstorm because the game was released without any multiplayer aspect, which was later released as a free expansion. And, to be fair, I quite liked the single-player campaign in Sandstorm. In NOVA, however, if the multiplayer doesn't work, Gameloft can be justifiably criticized for poor design choices, especially after the Sandstorm fiasco. If multiplayer is heavily advertised as an integral part of a game, make sure that it works before it's released. No one that I know loved to play Halo games because of the single-player, which was bland and generic. People played it for the multiplayer, and that, similarly, is what I thought the appeal of NOVA was. So, if that part doesn't work, people are fully justified in saying that the game was a rip-off. To put it in a different light, how would you feel if the game came out and had excellent multiplayer, but the single-player was too buggy to be played? Would you feel justified in calling the game bad? Oh, and I concur with rocketshark on the Toon Warz part. Gameloft (and NGMoco, for that matter) could learn a thing or two about multiplayer FPS's from that game. There are no problems connecting to the server, little to no game lag, and the weapons are well-balanced with none of the annoying "leveling" from Eliminate. And, despite all of what I just said, I am looking forward to NOVA, even if only for the single-player experience, because I love iDevice FPS's.
This will most likely be a $7-$10 iPhone game, not a 20 to 40 dollar PC/console game, so you didn't lose that much money if it doesn't work the first time. If it was a full 40 or 60 bucks, that would be a bigger deal. I understand that multiplayer is a big part of this, but rating it 1-Star for that would be a little foolish and shortsighted. Buy it mainly for the single player, consider the multiplayer the icing on the Holiday Cake
