Hi all, After having played a few days (50games for 1000 frags), here are my thoughts on Nova 3 multiplayer, with a focus on comparing it with MC3. In both games, I consider myself as a honest player (frag/death ratio = 2- 2.5) The good : Very fast pace, frantic action on the small maps. Problem is that he big maps are too big in my opinion : you spend your time running instead of fighting. Finding games is also a lot easier for me than in MC 3 and I have a lot less connection issues. The bad : Auto-aiming: its a huge pain as it makes it very difficult to anticipate your opponent moves. Because of that you can spend 30 seconds firing at your opponent without hitting him : it makes some fights totally ridiculous. What makes it more painful is that, its activated by default when you create a map (even if you changed it in your previous map) -> that makes 95% of the games with auto-aim on. The atmosphere: I dont know why but I find the game atmosphere to be much better in MC3. Maybe because in NOVA there is no background music, maybe because all guys look the same and have the same equipment (generic feel), maybe because there is no sense of danger: its too hard to be killed (see auto-aim), especially since you can sprint and flee when you want. In MC3, you make one mistake, youre dead : its not the case in NOVA. This also reduce my involvement in the game : I dont care if I play well or not, while Im always happy to get a bomber in MC3. The equipment: The starter weapons are terrible while the rocket launcher and/or jetpack are overpowered : all that gives a too big advantage to higher level players (including me): a lvl 1 with assault rifle has 0% chance to kill a jetpack/rocket launcher user, even if he has good skills. Even if this exist also in MC 3, it is not in the same proportion (you can kill anybody in 2 seconds with a bravel) and the important level thresholds (advanced armor, OPS55 come at level 25 which is very early). All in all, I find MC3 multiplayer to be much better than nova 3, although the nova 3 . There is room for improvement however, especially by removing the auto aim and re-balancing the weapons
Gameplay is actually quite smooth. Like the controls. Did play the first level about 3 parts through and love the music plus cinematics. Tried multiplayer a bit and must say that is quite fun too! Loved Instagib back in the days of UT99 and so glad this game has this mode too! Also your Australian Noob Hunter videos are HILARIOUS! Freaking love Australia as it feels like my second -neigh, my first- home and really miss it (visited in 2009 for a month.) Your N.O.V.A video was a bit lenghty I must say and could have used a little more variation, but I totally cracked my belly on one of your Battlefield 3 videos with the full Australian accent! LOL!
looks like you'd need higher sensitivity. That was really cool to watch, maybe I'll get the game after seeing that.
O.k guys let's not turn this into a flame war or anything but I wanted to mention the AI. Some people are saying that it's not good, but imo I think it's fine. I haven't actually checked but is there a hard mode for Nova 3?? I think that if AI actually did simulate a real war type experience, You would be stuck for hours trying to shoot down just a few enemies. Which in turn would be kinda boring. It would turn into a war of attrition, enemies hiding behind cover and not exposing themselves. I think the reason why AI is not too difficult is that it gives players fun and enjoyment, to mow down the enemy, to progress through the campaign at a quicker pace. So far with the fps, tps games that I've played. I never experienced extremely hard AI. That includes games like Shadowgun, Mc2, Mc3, Nova, Desert zombie last stand, 9mm, etc...
MC3 had a poor AI, but playing on extreme difficulty they killed super fast, but worse thing was how they could shoot through walls.
Lol desert zombie doesn't need any AI, they're zombies. That said, mc3 had crap AI, period. Nova has better AI, but not amazing. What I really want is an extreme difficulty, as it's to easy for me and I want the campaign to last longer. Shadowgun has very good AI. 9mm has crap AI. I forgt if shadow guardian had any good AI, but I never even bothered to finish that. It just was not a fun game... Max Payne has good AI. So do the police in gta3 Mass effect has crap AI
Even though NOVA 3 may have the better AI compared to MC3 (wich barely had any) I'd say that MC3 had by far the better campaign. The problem with NOVA 3 is that the levels all feel kind of the same and lack any kind of setpiece or anything to make one stand out. (It almost seems like gameloft only focused on making the first level good). Even NOVA 2 was better there with the bike levels and that one tower defense one. The bugs that sometimes made me have to restart an entire level really don't help keep things fresh either. Even though I'm not finished with the campaign yet (on mission 7 or 8), where the hell is the slowmotion abillity? That was the coolest one in Nova 2! Speaking of bugs, at one point in the game it wasn't really clear where I had to go (the objective arrow thing only appeared after a long conversation), so I went along the path that looked like where I had to go and ended outside of the map. it was kind of... interesting: http://twitpic.com/9lgfbl http://twitpic.com/9lgfb5 http://twitpic.com/9lgfau Also, one just has to love the verry consistent quality of textures: http://twitpic.com/9lgfai
Maybe I'll try Max Payne out sometime. Desert zombie, lol, Yes they actually made it with Zombies with guns, and Rpg's so yeah they did have AI. Btw, I'm loving the campaign on Nova 3, much better than Mass effect or Shadowgun. Although I really like Shadowgun.
Gotta disagree with you there. At least for me, mc3 felt like a duck shooter - the bad guys pop up briefly, and you shoot them. There was absolutely no variety or twists in that game. The enemies were dumb as a rock, and there was no gun that's just plain fun to use like the rail gun in nova. The voice acting and story are miles ahead of Mc3's, too, which isn't saying much. There are different enemies with different tactics, which make things interesting. Finally, the environments are bigger and there are often multiple strategies you can use or paths you can take. Mc3 was even more linear than nova. Btw I'm on mission 7 or so, no bugs. And I love the individual fingers on all the character models!
So guys I found a pretty huge bug in this game. If any of you guys don't have the slow-mo effect or any of them it's because you skipped a part in the first mission. During this part it tells you to swipe to use the effects. The first one is paralysis and the second is slow-mo some people may have only paralysis so I'd advise you to play the first level again and carefully play the level again and it will be there. Because if you dont it won't be unlocked for some reason. I had this problem and this is what fixed it.
The zombies follow a preprogrammed path, they do not react intelligently to you. They don't have any AI.
Yes, do yourself a favor a shell out 3 bucks for Max Payne. Any self-respecting gamer would be a fool not to at that price!
