Try holding the home and sleep buttons together for a few seconds to force a reset.

    Put it into dfu mode?
I think by holding home + lock together for around 10 secs, then releasing lock but carrying on holding onto home
    Something like that
    Google dfu mode

Okay, I just restarted it somehow (found somewhere you had to press the home/on button at the same time). Then it said I had to plug it into the computer (was plugged in) and then it had to reinstall the device software. Now it popped up saying "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used in iTunes" What do i do??? It's a non-jailbroken device by the way, which is looking like a good thing atm...

You restore your device like it's telling you too. Has it been jailbroken previously?

Never jailbroken before. Also: does it matter if it's in dfu or recovery mode? Or does it do dfu automatically? (i have the pic of itunes and below it the cable with an up arrow). I've never done a restore before (or really had any problems with my ipod before), so...

This happened to me, I left it over night and it was back to normal. I would not recommend charging it, but rather waiting for it to drain and then connect to computer.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!My ipod turned on again! I didn't have to restore or anything! Thank you all guys for the help though! I don't know, it might do it again sometime, though i dunno...I have 0.6 gb of other, so i dunno if that had something to do with it. But now i can celebrate since my ipod is fixed! :)

Lol you you didn't know home + power resets your iPod?..

Every other device on the market gives you an enomous manual hundreds of pages thick. Apple gives you a tiny pamphlet WITH COLORFUL PICTURES that takes a minute max to scan over. Take that time please.

Um, no offense (and i'm not trying to bump this thread anymore) but:
    1. I checked through all my mini-manuals (what it came with, and just to be sure) but NO it does NOT include that anywhere in there. No mention of resets, screenshots, and a bunch of other stuff...(e.g. it's a minimenu...)
    2. The reset didn't work instantly, and I'm still not sure if that fully did it, but I know nothing woulda worked without i! and I've never experienced anything like it before, so...
Thanks all again for the help, btw. And I'm glad I know about the reset now ;)

Mkay, so before it said that iTunes recognized that your iPod was in recovery mode. It doesn't recognize if your iPod is in recovery or DFU. Both can be exited the same way (or that's what I got from Google), which is holding power and home button at the same time.

Just in case you encounter this again =.=
