This post is why I dislike Windows. The fact you even have to read that means you've already wasted time, then you've gotta install all that crap and have it wasting CPU and RAM doing nothing exciting at all, it's just keeping your PC alive. I do own a PC though, and still don't go to those extremes. I have one, lightweight virus scanner, which doesn't run in the background fulltime and only scans when I open it... which is almost never. Windows firewall is turned off, as are Windows updates and I have no problems. A little bit of common sense goes a long way to avoiding viruses ...and yeah, Macs are expensive (Well, I say that... my last Windows laptop was £1100 and my MacBook was £700. Guess which one sucks?), but they work, and they'll keep working. I'm still stunned at the fact my MacBook is the first laptop I've owned that can actually go on my lap due to not having any vents underneath. Rest it on carpet/on the sofa, use it in bed, no problems. It's a minor point, but Macs are riddled with so many minor points that they build up and make you wonder why other companies are downright stupid enough to omit this stuff. Then you realise... it's because they're cheap. With Windows laptops (ignoring desktops for a moment, 'cause I'm a laptop kinda guy) the customer is paying the cost of the hardware, but paying absolutely nothing towards having it put together effectively. All in all, I'll keep using Windows for desktops and MacBooks for portable computing. No one choice is better than having both, which is the same reason I own just about every games console I can get my hands on. My desktop is by far the most annoying of the two, though.
^ I really have no need for a mac. My PC has been great to me for almost 2 years. I saved a bit over $800. I hate supporting Apple. I find new things everyday about my iPod to complain about, but iOS has awesome dev support and a better community for gaming.
Yeah, I think that fact that Apple do overcharge on upgrades is fair. It's way cheaper to get it and buy your own RAM etc. But I find it funny how that huge image really only details one downside to buying a Mac (one that doesn't really affect me seeing as I'm not going to buy a Mac Pro anytime soon), and then ending in a 'Don't Buy Mac' sort of shows how piddly the argument against Mac is. It's pricey, but it's a quality, well-built, reliable and innovative product. That is what I look for in a computer.
