I don't think anyone's mentioned death metal in this topic... and that example is way more power/black metal than anything else :)

Not a big fan of Billy Talent - Arcade Fire has done some decent work. Although I am familiar with The Decemberists I have not dug deep into there work.

Radiohead are excellent - I own every one of their albums. I used to be a snob and not really care to give them a chance (I was more busy listening to The Band, The Doors, or similar acts). But In Rainbows came out and I decided - as someone who was intrigued by their release scheme - to pay 5 pounds to get the album. After that I got OK Computer and then the rest.

Anybody heard Gord Downie's newest solo album The Grand Bounce - it is absolute genius. I know cause I hated it at first until I found I had listened to it more than 8 times through. :p - Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie) produced it and it sounds far more polished than his first two albums (Coke Machine Glow, The Battle of the Nudes) - it loses the over abundance of lo-fi charm but not all of it. I love The Tragically Hip (especially live), but I think I may love Gord Downie's solo albums more.

There's no such thing as "some metal" anymore, it's all split into subgenres. If we were to provide "some metal" it'll probably be nothing like what you were looking for.

Do you mean electronic dance music, electronic music, electro, or actual techno? Because "techno" is not a catch-all phrase for everything with a dance beat and synths.

Or perhaps Finnish Melodic Death Metal? For the metal part of the question, that is.
