Have you read how much money Bono made from his Facebook shares ? Yet hes still bleating on to me about poverty

It doesnt matter about U2's great history, their last album was crap, this hasnt been well received either. Doesnt matter about their history, they've only done this as their last album didnt do well.

"the inordinate amount of actual anger directed at Apple and U2 over this is so disproportional to the actual event, I've started to wonder about the mental state of some of those complaining"

"I have no sympathy for you. I have trouble thinking of a more self-indulgent, "first world problem" than saying "I hate this free new album I've been given.""

"The resulting outrage has been disproportionate and more than a little sad."

"These days the Internet Rage Machine swings into overdrive at the drop of a hat. Everyone uses almost every excuse to get angry about whatever they can."

"it's just about venting your spleen because it's the Internet, and that's what people do because they're angry all the damn time"

"and I wish they would give it a rest."

Now even Apple realized that they made a mistake.

    They offer a U2-removal tool. Funny. :D

I can actually relate to and agree with how you feel about the state of music, I would love the raw energy and honesty to return and am tired of watered down rehashes of classic work that's meant to be something innovative, or soft porn that is meant to be classified as talent. I'm not sure why I've chosen to defend people who seem to be over their craft, I guess as a musician I also relate to sometimes being over it all myself. Take my comments with a grain of salt, I think a case of playing devils advocate more than anything.

My favorite track. I for one was glad to receive the gift. Been a fan of U2 since October. (the album, not the month) There's been times I didn't care for what they were doing but life goes on. I don't understand the venomous hate over receiving something free. And no, I don't want anyone to explain it to me either. You feel cheated and that's fair. I for one appreciate it though. Thanks Apple.

I like the free album but I have bought some songs that I want to permently delete from the cloud call it drunk iTunes...

They should have just had the album as a free download that you had to go get, but I think it is great and hope for more free music in the future #

After reading through this thread one thing is very clear: in the age of internet posts, people will use anything as an excuse to get angry. It's a free album, not a mandatory prostate exam.

Raised By Wolves is a good song. I listened to the whole album while at the track running and despite the pace of the music it worked well. Usually I just listen to Volbeat but figured I'd give the hard rock a break. Also Sleep Like A Baby Tonight is a good one to listen to before going to sleep.

I can understand being forced to have the album in your account as a negative. Considering the number of garbage apps that clutter my purchase history of thousands of apps, I'm just not really worried about a single album of songs.

Well, I am not mad about about a free album, even if it is from U2 (which I don't like).
To be exact: it is spam. It is an intrusion into my privacy sphere. It got downladed on my device without my permission. It wasn't removable before the tool. Like, what comes next? What will they download next onto my device without asking me? Apple must be very desperate about the sinking numbers of song purchases. But pulling off stunts like that is beyond my level of acceptance.
Imagine some company bigwigs approching Apple and offer them 100 million, 200 million or whatever to stuff Candy Crush Saga, Hay Day or Clash Of Clans onto every device. And Apple makes a big show out of it, telling the people that with the download they recieve in-game things worth 10 or 20 dollar for FREE, yay, yay, big present! Users would probably burn down the house. We need to nip things like that in the bud.
    It's my effing device, period.

There's an option in the Settings app for iTunes & AppStore that will turn off autodownloads on new purchases.

The difference is a mandatory prostate exam can actually help make a difference, i fail to see how giving everyone a album does? Not to mention the security issue of apple putting content on our devices without our knowledge or approval

I agree. You guys remember that celeb nude pucture scandal? The iCloud got hacked already, and if that's possible, what else? Ok, I know there were only attacks on security questions, but who knows. There are iCloud hack tools in development or even already released, as some tech websites said.

    Here's also an interesting article:

I completely get why you wouldn't want it installed on your device without permission, though I have automatic downloads set to "off" and it didn't appear on any of my I devices. For me it was one more thing in my purchase history, which I could either ignore or download, so I downloaded it, because once upon a time (the early '90's) I did enjoy their music. And though I still think that the majority of posters are complaining just to complain, I do agree that the next time Apple does a promo like this they should definitely take a different approach. Though the Candy Crush and Clash comparisons are way off. The only thing comparable in my opinion would be if Apple's free song of the week was automatically inserted into your purchase history. A freemium game promo giving away free credits? If Apple did that it would make this U2 giveaway look completely innocent. At least U2 isn't asking us to buy anything else.

That's why all my nude pics stay out of the cloud. # If it can be hacked it can be whacked.

My thoughts exactly! never came across such a bunch of begrudging moaners!

I'm not big on U2, so guess what? I've not even checked to see if the album is there or not! I use spotify mostly these days anyway. And I don't feel the need to have an ignorant rant about it for no reason ...

They're a band ... they're already one of the richest bands in the world ... who cares they got a little more? they would have made as much on a full on release anyway! Get over it.

And no, they do not have to send all their money to the poor, they have done more than all of you collectively x 10000 over the years to aid charities.
