Yikes! I just got the following message: Spoiler "YOU WERE JUST DESTROYED BY THE ICOSAHEDRON OF DOOM." I wonder how many, if any, other endings there are.
Interesting, I get it for what it is. But, for such a simple game, I wish the graphics were better. Such potential for detail. Even the space background looks kinda pixelly....
If it was that, it would be trying to claim it was something it isn't. It's not doing that. They said it is a mountain an that's what it is!
More like a live wallpaper than a screensaver. I've got several excellent ones on my Android phone, which I've paid more for, so no complaints on this one.
Except live wallpapers run in the background. This is definitely more of the screensaver variety from the late 90s.
Well whatever the difference is, this definitely isn't just a screensaver! There's more to it than that, if you pay attention and don't just look at pics or vids while sneering at it!
It also says in the description and is listed in the AppStore under games->simulation. Anyway, there's a well written review on paste magazine. These couple of passages seem to sum things up pretty well: And that was written by a guy who played on PC and was able to move it to the side of the screen and do other stuff. I can't see why anyone who uses their iPad for anything else would want to spend 50 hours not using their iPad so they can watch this thing. Then I again, I use my iPad a lot. Maybe other people don't, and it just sits there anyway.
Not sure if you're just being a smartass, but that's not the issue. My phone gets blazing hot when running this app, no matter if it's near my computer or in my hand. Just while typing this, I opened it up and noticed a significant temperature change in under 30 seconds. For people complaining about the game, I can't say you're wrong, but it's kind of silly to get so bent out of shape over it.
Woah! I came back and my mountain had a strange object in it. Is there a way so I could post an image with a spoiler tag?
Sounds like you've got a serious problem there then! Yes I was trying to be a smartarse and failing miserably! In relation to people getting out of shape over it, is they still haven't read the explanation which says it's a mountain simulator.
You learn to read what they meant by 50hrs of gameplay, they foolishly assumed you'd realise they meant how long the app actually ran. Unlike you I managed to figure that out it wasn't difficult. No one who read the description and saw the video would assume it was anything else! If your annoyed because you payed a buck for something you thought it wasn't join the club I've payed way more for crap! So has everyone else. That's the way it is. If you didn't buy it then what the hell are you whining about?
thanks for all the summary info. At first I thought this game was going to be lost through pages of the forum and I was going to TOFTT but now this is one of the most active new game threads. It sounds like a dud to me. I may buy it for one thing though, insomnia. Does anyone think this game is great before bed?
You might want to get down from your high horse and tone down a little bit. I have no problem paying for apps, I've literally bought thousands since the first iPhone came out. The problem I have with MNTN is that they clearly promise you gameplay in the description, plus it's in the games section. Apps don't have a running time because they're interactive. Watching random stuff crash into a mountain for 50 hours is NOT gameplay like watching a movie is not gameplay. And reading random things like "I feel ____ on this ____ day/night" is not poetry, it's just pretentious. Yes I get it, mountains don't do much, but I feel that some kind of interactive element would have been nice. Mountains DO change over time. Something like a Tamagochi; planting/removing trees, maybe animals, shaping your mountain, waterfalls, anything but NOTHING. All you get to do is make three drawings when you start and that is also pointless because every mountain I saw looks the same anyway. So yes I'm a bit dissapointed.
The man on a high horse would be the one to call another's poetry pretentious. And as stated above, videos and pictures show the same thing , a mountain doing nothing. It says it's a mountain simulator/ relax-em-up. What do people expect from a game that clearly states no controls? A mind reading app that levels up your characters through calling others pretentious?
This reminds me of Topia. But that's an actual game where you can change the surface of the planet and see what happens. Much more fun.
you are so right. the app description says: "thing grow and things die" I haven't seen a single tree grow or die. nothing moves, not a single little rodent, not a single bird, nothing. if at least the vegetation was something alive and growing, subject to forest fires or tempests, I don't know... I thought it was like an ecosystem but its merely a snowball toy. oh right there's fireflies at night, big deal.
