Hello everyone, I need some assistance. I have searched but cannot find conclusive evidence of a resolution to my issue. I hope someone here can help.

I have both a 1G and 2G iPod Touch. I used to sync both with our PC in XP. Well, that PC died. Lucky for us the hard drive was intact. So now I was hoping I could transfer my iTunes applications and music to my new Macbook. Well I have heard that it is easy and I heard that I will lose everything if I do so.

What I am most concerned with is I do NOT want to lose my data in my apps. I have lots of things built up that do not back up outside of the iPod Touch. Like my complete workout and routine along with a log of all my workouts plus my shoping list with all of the aisles worked in it that took months to set up. Plus my game saves and all.

How can I transfer without losing it all? Is it even possible? Or should I just make a backup of my info and have my PC fixed and wait till it is back up and running?

    Thanks ahead for any assistance!

You're being redundant and saying the same thing twice.

To each his own, I guess.

The shopping list with the aisles cracked me up. Isn't there a folder somewhere within the iTunes one that contains all the app info?

Edit: Does anyone know if the info is kept in the .ipa files or are those the apps alone?

I don't think the .ipa contains game saves. If I remove an app and then additback in later, the saved data is not there.
The only way to get the data back is to do a Restore via iTunes, but this will only take you back to the last time you did a full backup sync.

To reply to Snoderlye, I honestly don't know the correct answer, but I thin you need to talk to an Apple Genius about this. Good luck and let us know how it turned out.

Hmm... I think you can just redownload all the apps from iTunes in your new computer before you sync your iPhone with the new computer.

As hkiphone said, the gamesaves are not stored in the ipa or any app file managed by iTunes. Its only stored in your iPhone (and hence also stored in the backup file).

Anyway, just back up your iPhone in the old computer in case something goes wrong :)

I went to the Apple store today and spoke with one of the guys at the Genius Bar. (Two hour trip there.)

He said if I copy all of my iTunes directory to my Mac from my PC's drive and start iTunes while holding in the option key it would ask if I want to choose my iTunes directory. Select that directory and iTunes would use it.

I am going to give it a try tomorrow. Wish me luck! I am still a bit chicken to do it.

i did this a few months ago, you just get your PC itunes folder to replace the mac one and then it should realise its the same ipod (don't take this as fact)
    goodluck

Just buy a Macbook and when you plug your iPod in it will automatically backup your data, I think.

I'd expect this, but when I tried that when I also switched from Window to Mac, it didn't go very smoothly. Basically, it asked me if I wanted to sync (with a practically empty library) or if just leave it alone.
