What doesn't make sense to me is why Nolan chose a 2.5 hour long movie as his ideal medium for Inception. Don't get me wrong, I think the concept of the movie has potential, but it would have been much better off as a short story, or an episode of a show like the Twilight Zone/Outer Limits/etc. There just isn't an excuse for a movie like that, written and directed by someone as experienced as Nolan, to have so little character development and character depth that people leave the movie relating to the cast so little that they don't even remember their names.
Yeah, well, it's ok if you forget their names. The protagonist is called Dom Cobbs, for crissake. It means "leader of the corn men".
I can understand the arguments about the character development (with the exception of Cobb, who I thought was written pretty well). It wasn't enough to kill it for me though, since the film's focus seemed to be on the story and universe around it. I'm not too sure the comparison with the Matrix is a fair one, since it's a trilogy and all. But then on the other hand, if they didn't take the time to explain it, people would just be wtf-ing even if the characters were really good. With a concept like this, there's only so much you can put in 2.5-3 hours.
It could be good if they make us care about the characters. Character development stuff. Rather than just people getting hurt.
What about that movie? No one can possibly say that it looks bad. Everything looks/sounds top notch.. the music, picture quality, actors, storyline...
My mind is officially blown. Not really that confusing (only thing I'm confused about is SPOILER: Limbo), but the ending was... Absolutely stunning. I'm watching it again to see if I can get that last part figured out, plus answer THE BIG QUESTIoN at the end by myself. Instant DVD buy.
