I just watched Oblivion which is the most literal "space cowboy" movie I've ever seen. A pacifist empath cowboy and a Native American take down a gang made up of an alien, a Xena knock off with a whip, a Canadian fur trapper, and a gay mariachi which is odd since the movie takes place on anther planet in the 31st century. The absolute highlight of the film is George Takei as the town doctor. In his first scene he's finishing off a bottle of Jim Beam and says "Jim Beam me up!" before smashing the bottle. Later on he exclaims "great scotty!" during a fight and asks for a trichorder which turns out to just be a small medical kit. The star trek references are so out of place I decided to look it up, it turns out Takei ad-libbed them and they just let him do it since he's the biggest name actor in the movie.
Saw RPA and The Help today. Definitely was not impressed with RPA. The visuals were nice, but I can't say I enjoyed much else about it. The ending was far from satisfactory, and I can't say I'm looking forward to the sequel the teaser in the credits hinted at. On the other hand, The Help has to be one of my favorite films of the summer. Moving, funny, and powerful describe the film perfectly in my opinion. With an incredible lead cast and a plot that's at least above par, The Help has to be my favorite drama so far in 2011. Not sure why, but dramas that revolve around African-Americans have nearly always peaked my interest. Precious is another favorite of mine. But yeah, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer put on an outstanding performance. Emma Stone wasn't half bad either. Pretty decent end to this summer's films.
My newest review if anyone is interested. It's on the exploitation movie 'Ms. 45 - Angel of Vengeance.'
Finally saw The Prestige today. Holy shit..and I thought Inception was good. This movie is on the same level as The Dark Knight for Nolan's work. Damn, I've been missing out. You guys were right; that was an amazing film.
The Prestige ties with The Dark Knight for my favorite Nolan film, and one of my top films. Tremendous atmosphere, great acting, fresh camera work for the Victorian period and an engaging story that is extremely rewatchable. It's also probably the most elegant timeline screw Nolan has accomplished (seriously, Inception has layers within layers and Memento is backwards, but The Prestige has flashbacks within flashbacks, essentially creating a spiral). None of this distracts from the story, and rather enhances it. I love it.
Agreed man. I've actually never seen Memento and Insomnia. Planning to watch both of them as soon as I get the chance.
I like Nolan's work but I think Insomnia was a misstep. My favorite of his is still Following because it's relatively short but still packs a lot of punch. Love that movie!
Saw the movie months ago.. That movie was intense. Didn't like what happened towards the end but all in all, it is a decent movie. Samuel L. is crazy.
We're doing top ten lists?! In no particular order. 1. Ink. 2. The Fall. 3. We are the strange. 4. Primer. 5. Remember Me. 6. Hobo With A Shotgun. 7. Eden Lake. 8. Watchmen. 9. Nil By Mouth. 10. Dog Soldiers.
Saw Black Swan and Memento both for the first time today. Goodness, I need a breather. I don't really know what to say. Black Swan was a little too much for me, but Memento was quite good. Shutter Island is too similar to the film though. But yeah, Black Swan had my heart racing. More than anything, it was a disturbing film.
I thought Black Swan was nonsense, not the good kind. It was just a load of random bullcrap. Memento is a great film. And Shutter Island is a truly awful one. You knew the ending if you have any common sense the moment you turn on the film.

^^^ ummmm what??? anyway I just finished watching catfish. It was a very strange and different movie but I did enjoy it. I dont want to say much on the story as you just have to watch it really. But I would recommend it.
Anyone seen Contagion, Columbiana, The Debt, or Warrior? Drive is coming out this Friday and looks really good. Straw Dogs looks okay as well.
