I do not like to watch romantic movies .I just like to watch fighting movies and not watch full movies.
Flashpoint was awesome because I loved the way he mixed in submission grappling with boxing and other styles in the fights and still kept them really fast-paced, very modern sort of martial arts choreography (MMA and all that). Especially in the last fight. That was amazing.
Saw Ip Man just now. Goodnessc that was indeed an epic movie. Glad I saw it; thanks for mentioning it here guys. Probably going to watch the second one as well in the next few days. Edit: F**k it, girlfriend wants to watch it now. Good stuff.
Alright, I'll look into it man. The second one was pretty good. Not as emotional or epic as the first, but it was a decent sequel. Turns out there's a third movie in the series, lol..The Legend is Born: Ip Man. Will probably hold off watching that one though. But wow, that man was pretty extraordinary. No doubt, I'm going to spend some time reading wikis and a few articles about the events and characters from the movies tonight.
Actually it's not from the same 'series' as such (it's not Donnie Yen), it's just another adaptation of his story, focusing on the earlier part of his life. Extract from Wikipedia: Donnie Yen has also ruled out making a third Ip Man film unfortunately, which is kind of a shame considering how they set up the ending of Ip Man 2 for it. http://twitchfilm.com/news/2010/03/donnie-yen-rules-out-ip-man-3.php
Well I just watched 7 movies in the last 3 days. I'm trying to increase my top 250. In around 60 at the moment which I'm quite dissappointed with. I have missed out on a lot of must sees but I'm trying to make up for it now. The 7 were Godfather 2 Pulp fiction Forrest Gump Taxi driver Raging bull Scarface One flew over the cuckoos nest I really enjoyed all of them but "one flew..." was nearly my favourite I think. There was just something in it that I can't even explain. But they were all fantastic films. I was going to watch "the good the bad and the ugly " but my dad lost the DVD.
Saw Cowboys & Aliens. Pretty good B-movie; Daniel Craig was great in this western, and Harrison Ford seemed to play well as the "baddie" this time.
I'm an amateur film critic, emphasis on the amateur... it's my dream to one day be a film critic or at least, a critic of anything if I get the chance. But film is my strong suit. Anyway, here's my mini Captain America review/rant. If you enjoy it, I can give you a link to my blog of reviews. Anyway... It took me quite sometime to work out what was wrong with Captain America and then I realised it, CA alienates its audience. This films greatest strength is ultimately its greatest weakness. It ends up being so perfect an adaptation it hurts itself as a film on all basic levels. The crew who worked on this clearly adore the CA franchise, because they seemed to put all their effort and energy into getting it just right. And I mean all. Everything other than exposition feels so cheap and rushed, it seems they just threw that together in a day of shooting. Any changes they made, seem to be done just so people would take the film seriously within its context, even to points where it points out just how silly some of the CA mythos is. But what this ultimately means is, the pacing is totally ruined. The exposition is way too long and after all that build up the action...just kinda sucks. If I remember right, when he finally becomes the 'proper' Cap, clad with his armour (which was oddly Ultimatesish, I mean Thor had nods to his Ultimate counterpart, but not to this extreme), gun and Vibranium (I'm pretty sure it was adamantium in the comics, guys?) shield, he starts with a poorly edited rushed montage yet everything before that was a long, slow, drawn out process of getting Rogers to become Captain America. This was totally the wrong way round. You should have spent a long time on your action sequences and less on the exposition. Why? Because the action movie fan market is MUCH larger than that of the comicbook one. And as happy as I am that you made a near perfect adaptation for your source material, I'm annoyed the movie suffered for it. Further still, the effects are by no means bad, perse. But for a film this big and important, the effects downright suck. I mean they aren't Thor level bad where often I felt in that movie I was watching a cutscene but they just sorta felt...cheap for what it is. A lot of the action sequences look like the kind you'd find in an independent movie, only with more money thrown at it for greater polish. The choreography was just bad. First Class had a much more minimalist style and yet the action sequences there felt more polished and felt higher budget - better shot and the director clearly took a better lead. Which is a shame, because the film really tries to show off 101 ways a shield can be just as badass as any superpowers the others have. Cap isn't helped much by some really amateurish cinematography and some odd camera angle choices. With just some general poor production values, some of the guns and sets looked downright cheap and awful for a production of this level, no matter how close the small details reflect the comic. But in reverse of before, the sets and props in Thor were a lot worse. Thirdly, Hayley Atwell is DOWNRIGHT GORGEOUS. But she doesn't sell the movie much either, she has great chemistry with Cap, but thankfully the movie doesn't consumate their relationship, I think they only share one kiss and Cap kisses another woman anyway. If you're looking for some Hayley nudey goodness, try something like the duchess. Further still, Atwell suffers from the January Jones 'deer stuck in the headlights' style of acting, although not nearly as bad. And maybe just nitpicking, but where is the German? Although they 'spoke' English in the comics, it's because it has to be read. First Class had German speaking and subtitles in it. I found it hard to take seriously when most of the German's were just American's with bad accents and what the frag did they do to Zola? However I HAVE read reviews saying although the film is average, it's a lot of fun, and this is coming from guys who clearly aren't CA fans or readers of the comics. But honestly, the only fun I got from this, was just how perfectly they got Cap and his world from the paper and onto the celluloid. As an action movie I just kinda found it dull.
Another wayward youth lost to the allure of drugs, violence, prostitution and film criticism. Sure it looks glamorous now but will you still feel that way after watching every single cartoon turned CGI monstrosity and talking animal movie for a few years? How many Smurf sequels and Movie Movies can you take before you start writing pretentious articles about how the average person is too stupid to understand Inception? BTW, are you familiar with the 90's animated series The Critic? Great show.
I think the prteentious response to Inception would be - the film made perfect sense, to any connoisseur of art cinema, it was basic on all levels. Nolan is an just a mainstream art director. Art cinema for the normal person. LOL. And no...but I might check it out.
I just watched the pilot and laughed my ass off. It's a tad dated, but not to the point where the jokes and references caught me out. So many great voice actors and I swear I recognise the art style.
The show was created by two producers of the early seasons of The Simpsons. It shares the same art style and much of the production staff. If you watch the credits you'll recognize the name Brad Bird who later went on to work for Pixar and create The Incredibles. It's a great show, unfortunately it only lasted two seasons. ABC canceled it after one season, FOX picked it up and canceled it after one season, it was brought back as a web series and only lasted a few episodes.. I pulled out the box set and watched a few episodes this morning after I made the above post.
How come this was cancelled so much and yet Family Guy/ American Dad/Simpsons/Futurama have about a hundred seasons between them?
