Guardians of the Galaxy rocked with creativity and irreverent humor. Really energetic with a great dramatic nemesis and definte hints at where Marvel Universe movies might go next. Good to hear there's likely to be a sequel. Yeah, that was a great fan nod with the post credit squence but not as "epic."
Marvel is back to their A game looks like. With CA: TWS and now the even better GotG, my faith in them has been restored. Great film.
Agreed! Both were fantastic and my expectations were pretty high, especially for GOTG. I think I might have to go see it again in the theater...
saw the new ninja turtles movie. not bad. not great, but not bad. EDIT: Megan fox still sucks as an actress, btw.
Have you guys watched silicon valley tv show? I watched first two episodes and they were pretty good.
Guardians was cool, but Cap, Xmen and Planet of the Apes were all better. If anyone is into bottle movies like Buried and 127 Hours, try Locke. It's more of a drama than a thriller, but still very good.
I disagree. Guardians was on par, if not slightly better than Captain America The Winter Soldier and maybe even X-Men Days Of Future Past. I haven't seen it a second time, but I really want to! Also disagree about Locke. Tom Hardy does a good job, but the movie is boring (and nothing happens!) once the main plot is revealed about 20 minutes in. You couldn't pay me to see it again and if anyone is on the fence about it, stay away for sure. At least something happens at the end of Buried, but I'd never see that again or recommend it to anyone.
Guardians of the Galaxy really nailed the character driven team aspects with witty banter like you see in comic books but the villains were quite weak (despite Lee Pace's wasted yet epic Ronan presence). X-men Days of Future Past has some great fan service (especially future bits) but despite being awesome paled a little by depending too much on Wolverine (yet again) and falling back to overly familiar themes (it had brilliant homages/connections but didn't build enough new subtext); it didn't take enough chances. Ultimately I think Guardians of the Galaxy was the "better" film being more kinetic and creative despite X-men DOFP's strong showing. I still haven't seen Winter Soldier (after Thor the Dark World I was in no hurry) I want to see the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, but worry that my ticket purchase might send the "wrong message" to the "big wigs" [not sure if they'd figure drastically altering classic franchises is cool, or see it as support the franchise in it's original concept].
I didn't like the first Captain America film that much and didn't like the second Thor that much either, so I see what you are saying, but The Winter Soldier is a great film. Definitely check it out when you get a chance. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I agree with what you're saying with regards to X-Men DOFP, but I do like the idea of alternate timelines which mirrors the comics. Guardians (having only read 1 issue of the comic) was something fresh and fun. A great adventure that I could sit down and enjoy over and over again. I saw an article on collider tonight about how the sequel for TMNT has a date now and it's June 3, 2016... So you're off the hook.
Finally saw Catching Fire last night, really enjoyed it. The first Hunger Games movie didn't really impress me that much, but this one was much better, IMO. Looking forward to Mockingjay now.
Gave Watchmen a second viewing last night, I think I actually preferred the ending over the comics. Great movie, makes me more angry that Snyder didn't do as good a job with the last Superman.
Did you like the ending of Locke? I didn't at all. It was not satisfying and much of the dialogue seemed forced and used as a plot device for the entire film. Tom Hardy did a good job, but I felt like he was unable to sustain the film by himself. Saw the trailer for Transcendence and barfed!
