I came back from watching Pacific Rim and I have to say it lived up to my expectations. Lots of good giant robot vs. monster action and I enjoyed the story. Would watch again.
More than anything the universe is very well fleshed out. I have been avoiding reading the comic for spoilers but I can't wait to read it now.
Glad to hear Pacific Rim doesn't sound like a total failure. I saw Despicable Me 2 yesterday. I thought the original was lukewarm, and this one was similarly so. I didn't like a noticeable focus on toilet humor (two jokes is enough for me to be sad, but I think they pulled off 4 or 5 in this one), the story was quite cliche considering the original one had kind of an interesting and unique tale, and nothing about the film was emotional or satisfying in any big way to me. It had some very funny moments, though! The minions were much more fun this time around, too. I also loved the end part of the climax where it Spoiler felt a lot like a cartoony and kid-friendly version of World War Z, with the big shootout with the Purples while they were climbing over each other to get to the top of the tower, haha . Funny stuff. One thing that slightly annoyed me more than it should have was the Purples. I swear they were supposed to be just like Rabbids. Like, I am seriously wondering if Ubisoft had a hand in their development. Their voices, their mannerisms, their craziness... it was pretty much exactly the Rabbids, but purple instead of white Overall it was fun and light, but probably very forgettable. 5.82/10 Note: Again, though, I was lukewarm with the first movie, so if you enjoyed that one a lot, you'll probably like this one a lot too! I also saw The Heat. I don't have much to say about it, but it was very funny. They did have a lot of jokes that weren't in the trailer, which was a nice surprise. Fun movie, to be sure, and I am loving Paul Feig's recent focus on directing female-dominant casts in great and well-made movies! Breath of fresh air, to be sure Given that it's a comedy, though, it's to be expected that it was also very predictable. I don't watch comedies for the stories, though, usually, so I don't care too much about its lack of creativity. It was funny, so I'd say it succeeded on some level. I dug the opening credits sequence. It had this very old-school 70s vibe to it, and had some wonderful editing... I wish the rest of the movie followed this first impression. I have a like/hate relationship with action comedies. There's something about the music, and there is a real art to blending action with comedy really well. Usually with action comedies they have that stupid espionage music that is in literally every spy movie ever, and it makes me roll my eyes. When you put that music into a movie, you will piss me off. There's nothing creative about that musical selection. The Heat didn't fail completely with blending the action and the comedy (and some drama), but I have seen better blending before (Hangover Part III is a great example, even though it wasn't primarily an action movie). At no point during Hangover Part III did I roll my eyes. All the action scenes had great strings of comedy, the comedy bits that had to do with action played them off well enough that they didn't stick out in a negative way, and the drama that was in the film, while slightly predictable, was very heartwarming and done in a wonderful way. Hangover is an exceptional comedy series in the sense that I don't think I've seen anything before or since that follows such a strange and different structure. Usually comedies have the most predictable storylines and narrative bullet points, but The Hangover changed that for the mainstream. It's too bad more comedies aren't trying to do that anymore. I miss the comedies like Anchorman, Naked Gun, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Monty Python, where they were straight-up silly and funny affairs that didn't feel a need to add shoehorned drama or scary conflicts into the mix. They're pure comedies, through and through, and it's too bad that's not the norm. The Heat is very funny, though. I will give it a 6.72/10! Haven't watched The Host yet, sorry! Been busy with other stuff! Like getting out of my apartment and watching movies and stuff...
Personally I think the host's premise sounds terribly stupid. It might still be good, but I'm not sure if I want to take the time to see if it is.
Lol. Haven't we already been through this? For clarification, my review above is for The HEAT and not The HOST. Just making sure? The Host, the monster movie, was pretty dang cool though! I saw it a while back, but that was a fun movie. Well-made, too... surprisingly intense for a monster movie, as well!
I know you were talking about the heat. Yeah, the Host(2007) was a great film. That one guy who fought it during the main attack... Man.
Bout god damn time. I told you it was great. My favorite movie for a reason. Is it not the most brilliant, perfect movie you've seen? The legendary performances? The way those classic little plots were sewn together? Do you not want to watch it again? [spoilers] It's just flawless.
I probably did. I feel much the same way towards both movies. Pulp Fiction cannot be beat, though. By anything.
I have. Very strange movie. The premise was strange and the visuals were very trippy. It was interesting though.
