I like some animated films: Finding Nemo, Toy Story, Monsters Inc, and uh...I think that's about it. I've seen 12 Angry Men, that was good, and that was B&W
Well then make your next B/W Sin City It's on my top 10 movies and its 2005 It's not so much b/w, just really artistic visuals. Watch it. It's got Alba
Sigh. Well I don't know what to tell you then. It's a brilliant political satire. The whole "precious fluids" conversations, Dr. Strangelove and his uncontrollable robotic hand, hell George C Scott on his own makes the film genius. Plus Peter Sellers playing the 3 roles was amazing. His deadpan delivery of the president and Mandrake, especially as he's trying to place a call to the president but doesn't have change for the payphone? There's loads of subtext in the movie. It's VERY deadpan in most of its humor, and if that's not something you can enjoy, it's not a movie for you. You have to think, though, if you hate it but the vast majority of others love it, is it you or is it the movie? I know it's strange that I say this, being that I still feel that some of the higher rated movies aren't big hits for me (LOTR, Sideways, Diving Bell and the Butterfly) but I don't think there's a world where Strangelove isn't an amazing film, but it's not for everyone and it does take, as I said, knowledge of the Cold War and an appreciation of the fairly subtle humor. That's also the thing, humor, especially humor from older films, is VERY different than the slapstick in your face goofball humor of recent comedies. But focus on this, you liked 12 Angry Men, so maybe you are less into older comedies than you are older dramas. Do me a favor, try To Kill a Mockingbird, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest (I think you already saw that one, though?), The Sting (this, while a comedy, is much more accessible) or even The Hustler. Don't give up on older movies. And if you don't mind me asking, how old are you? I know I wasn't into Strangelove until my mid 20s, and it took me a few viewings and a love of Kubrick to really "get it"
I'll say straight out that comedy isn't one of my favourite genres. Heck, I wasn't as impressed by 21 Jump St as ninjackid and k1lljoy were. Some of the things you mentioned, such as the robotic hand. I was more like wtf? Having said that im probably missing something here that would make it humorous. That payphone thing was quite funny, especially the ensuing conversation about the coca cola machine. Definitely not giving it up, i'll try some other movies. I'm at Uni
Yeah, same here. But it's not the genre that typically "impresses" one... And watch Tropic Thunder if you haven't, Kenny.
LOL edit: lol'd @ gif Yeah I though you'd seen it. That's why I asked. How'd you like it? I can't recall I'm always pointing that out. If its funny, mission accomplished. If its really good, thats even better.
I think this might be the best choice. But remember, it is a BRITISH comedy. It doesn't follow the same constructs as American comedies. That said, I think Shaun/Hot Fuzz are the most accessible British comedies out there. Boy I need to watch them again. And soon. I need to upgrade from my HDDVD versions...
