Movies, people. Raging Bull, Goodfellas, City Slickers... Thoughts? Christoph Waltz is a BAD ASK MUDDAH!!
Actually, I think it may have been me But yes, movies. Gonna watch 21 Jump St soon, and I'm currently downloading The Town.
My plans are to finish The Double life of Veronique, which has been a struggle to complete for whatever reason. His Three Colors trilogy was a set of films I couldn't get enough of. I'm just not as taken with Veronique. I would like to watch For All Mankind, too. I was hoping to watch it with my kids, but I think they'll be bored. They LOVED Sita Sings the Blues, which was a really light, fun movie is suggest anyone checking. It's free online, isn't very long and is really different I'm finally watching The Last Temptation of Christ. Figured I'd give Scorsese another try. Defoe, Keitel + Peter Gabriel can't be bad, right? And as an agnostic, I'm able to look at everything very openly. So far it's not bad. There are sole quirks that Scorsese uses when he directs that get on my nerves, but I think that can be said about many directors.
I'm gonna be honest. I have no legitimate comment to make on your comment andsoitgoes. Gosh I'm such a noob when it comes to older movies.
To paraphrase smokey the bear, "Only YOU can prevent movie stagnation... Fires!" This weekend your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to watch 1-2 films generally considered a "classic" made prior to the 1980s. Doesn't have to be foreign or black and white but it should be a little bit off the beaten path. I will give you a few simple options: 2001 Dr. strangelove The Sting The Hustler Seven Samurai Yojimbo Magnificent Seven I think those are obtainable. They're fairly popular and offer a wide breadth of subject matter. If you want light, The Sting and Yojimbo will provide that and add Dr. Strangelove if you don't mind thinking a bit. If you want a really moving film, The Hustler is a great choice. Newman was so charismatic and the story was great. Plus it has George C. Scott (one of the best actors EVER) in it. Hell, stick in any of The Man With No Name movies, too! I picked up the trilogy for something like $15. Try it, stick your baby toe into classic cinema. The water is nice Oh and I finished Last Temptation... I have one thing to say about Scorsese: great guy but overrated filmmaker.
I don't know why, but that list made me think of Jumanji. >_> Anyways, was just reflecting on the Joker and Heath Ledger's amazing performance, and now I'm in the mood for some flicks with charismatic villains. Something on par with the Joker (obviously) and Moriarty from Sherlock (the TV series). Someone who is intelligent, charismatic (!), viciously clever, and a touch insane. Being well-played is a huge, huge requirement. (would prefer something in the last ~13 years too... sorry andsoitgoes )
Javier Bardem immediately comes to mind in No Country for Lost Men (and Skyfall as well). I really need to keep the list of all the films I watch, my brain is fried. That's all I got for the moment, so i'm sorry if you've seen it
Thanks for the rec's. I'll definitely have a look into them when I can! As for watching a classic film, I got It's A Wonderful Life and will probably watch it on the weekend as per your request Tonight, i'm watching 21 Jump St, impressions tomorrow
Kenny, you mentioned Liar Liar, you know, that one was ok, I just think it could've been better. I mean, it pretty much stuck to the formula, was pretty predictable. Who's with me? Now, 21 Jump Street, you'll love! Wait, so It's a Wonderful Life will be your first black and white, yes?
OK, i've decided comedies just ain't my thing. OK, it was pretty good and funny in some parts, but it's no Scarlett Johansson in terms of movies, or even Megan Fox for that matter. Nah, it'll be my second. 12 Angry Men was my first, watched it?
