Lies! Depends on how you like the Aliens lore. If you're into the universe then 3 can be a nice change of pace, and the tie-in with Predator is really interesting. I find Resurrection and AVP quite fun, but AVP2 sucks. Also, the first Predator movie is a total Arnie classic, sequel not so much. If you don't watch Predator you won't understand GET TO DA CHOPPA!
Yeah definitely Part 2 is freaking 3 and half hours. Ended up having to divide it into two parts itself.
I SAID PREDATORS, NOT PREDATOR. Of course I wouldn't tell him not to watch Predator. That's an all-time classic. Predators was the 2005-ish sequel with Adrien Brody. I found it excessively vulgar and, worst of all, boring. Speaking of Adrien Brody, the Pianist is a very good Holocaust biography. Very, very good. That man can act.
Yes and no...it's set in the same universe but isn't really a sequel. It's worth a rental, but don't have your expectations too high. Plot holes and believability issues ruined much of it for me. Also the Caesarean is a little over the top, if you're the squeamish sort. It did make me squirm a tad, I don't mind telling ya.
Oh yeah, forget Predators. More or less. Just don't expect it to be anything like the same kind of movie. Actually, don't expect any aliens for the most part. Pretty movies though, gotta be seen in HD. There were some good scenes. I love the grid alien design: And the queen at the end is just... beautiful. A lot of my enjoyment was getting more understanding of the back story regarding how the two species are linked. I think there's a lot there for people who are interested in Aliens beyond the movies.
I'm not looking for a huge movie-nerd debate here, but can you remember any of the plot holes you didn't like? I remember reading a thread on them over at IMDb and thought a lot of the solutions were pretty obvious. Yup.
Biggest plot hole: Spoiler After the protagonist gets her caesarean (and with only local anethesia, which is even more unbelievable) and gets only staples to hold her stomach together after the laser cuts a 2 foot incision, she runs and rolls and jumps around like an action star until the end. This is IMPOSSIBLE in real life; it would take months for the muscles in her stomach to fully heal from a surgery like that. That was the main one, there were others but I'd have to rewatch the movie.
Spoiler Hmm, yeah. It's pushing realism to its limits, but not far enough to really annoy me. I mean, you're supposed to try and walk around a little within a day of having a caesarean, so I think she's really just a few hours premature rather than months, and it's obviously not pain-free when she does it either. I can sorta suspend my disbelief considering the whole medi... casket thing is obviously some kind of miraculous future medicine/surgery machine anyway.
Something is considered believable if it could happen in the created universe. Prometheus is set in the future, with the only difference being space travel and the existence of extraterrestrial life. I can't believe that scenario because the created movie world doesn't allow it. If this was Star Wars, then the Force could've accomplished this in a believable way. If this were The Hunger Games, a little magic spray bottle could've dropped out of the sky and healed everything instantly. You get the point.
I've never had one so I don't know exactly how long the recovery would be but Spoiler I just had trouble believing that she could run around like that with most of her abdominal muscles completely severed and not even a "healing spray" or whatever applied.
Spoiler I agree they should have shown something that implies it was treated with more than just a few metal staples. I think it might have been within their tech to do something though. According to the timeline, they'd already mastered stem cell research, cured cancer and come up with a way to create human skin from chemicals (David), maybe they should have done that on her.
Cool, was on my watch list also. I think k1lljoy had it as no. 1 of the comedies you hadn't seen. 3:10 to Yuma was an excellent movie as well. You should watch that next.
Yeah, I actually am gonna watch that next. Maybe tonight. But seriously, 21 Jump Street is easily in my top 5 action comedies.
