I agree that Nolan's a genius... BUT I disagree that movies are purely for entertainment, movies are a work of art, too. And if the art element is lost in film, then you get stuck with mindless CGI-inflated movies with nothing but pure action blasting all your senses. Just sayin'
No no I agree about movies are a work of art. All i'm saying is that, after a long day of classes/lectures/studying/homework etc, you want to relax with a movie that doesn't work your brain over like Memento does. I'm taking nothing away from the film.
Memento didn't really make me think, not on a philosophical level anyway, it's just a bit of a puzzle to remember what the hell is going on. Lost in Translation made me think quite a lot more and I can't imagine Kenny will complain about that
Well I definitely found it confusing. But that may have been because my brain was dead after a long day lol Haha so true. I'm still thinking about it now
Agreed! Agreed again. Man LiT was great. Such great characters, great performances. Loved Anna Faris' little role too!
Haha yeah. But that guy was a idiot, not spending time with SJ... Isn't amazing how a film where practically nothing happens can be so good? And the only reason I attribute that to is the performances of Murray and Johansson. It's truly the only film I don't mind watching again and again.
Midian, I enjoyed your quote so much I've put it into my sig. Not only does it highlight how good the film is, but also shows my appreciation towards SJ. I hope you don't mind ^^
Watched The Lorax. Not the greatest animation out there. Was worth watching though, I guess. Just running through the decent movies on Netflix that I haven't seen since it's Spring Break; spoiler: there probably aren't even ten of them.
Just watched Rise of the Guardians tonight, and Wreck it Ralph (thanks ninjackid) last Friday. Both really, really good movies. Both get an easy recommendation.
I rarely watch animated films. The only ones I remember watching are Finding Nemo, Toy Story, Shrek and Monsters Inc. How do those compare against them?
You've named what are now essentially counted as classics. Movies like "Rise of the Guardians" and "Wreck-it Ralph" are pretty much normal movies "disguised" as cartoons to expand their target audience. I don't know how they'd compare to the above, but they're still good. Actually, I feel like I can draw comparisons between "Rise of the Guardians" and "The Sorcerer's Apprentice". Not in terms of story, or actors or whatever, but the movies strike a similar chord, for me at least. I think if you liked one, you'd like the other as well.
Indeed, I'll probably give them a miss. I'm not a particular fan of animated films, unless SJ voices a character. I haven't seen either, so I wouldn't know
Yeah, I saw Rise of The Guardians recently, too. Out of those two, though, I definitely preferred Wreck-It Ralph.
