I disagree. I don't know how well the movies relate to the comic books, but I really enjoyed the movies as movies. I've never been an die-hard comic book reader, so that might be the reason our opinions differ. Anyways, I saw Looper today. It was good, quite a bit of action. I did find it a little slow at times, particularly in the second half of the movie.
Seeing Seven Psyhopaths tomorrow. Looper was decent, although there were some places for improvement.
That look good, going on the clips that I've seen. Just come back from watching Argo. Overall a pretty good movie, not brilliant but worth watching. It gets better as it goes along and a good ending the really builds up the tension. Surprisingly their's humour in it as well and some genuinely funny lines.
I wish I didn't have such high expectations going into Loopers, it was a pretty good movie but not as epic as Rotten Tomato ratings suggested.
Finally got around to seeing the first Expendables. Looking forward to renting the sequel when it hits stores.
Saw Here Comes the Boom today, and it was surprisingly good, but I went in with low expectations. Had a great message and very nail biting, and its unimaginable Kevin James did all that mixed martial arts fighting!
Expendables The latest one is much better mostly due to the humour adding by having a lot of the odd time stars... I liked the second movie much more than the first. The second movie was much funner.
Just been to see Perks of being a wallflower. A surprisingly good movie which could have been great. The plot revolves around the typical high school theme, nerd, no friends etc, doesn't fit in. It twists and turns, is quite deep in places and the acting is very convincing. Once you get into it, the film becomes very good and I found myself engrossed in the 3 main characters. Unfortunately as it builds up a head of steam, it loses itself about 20 minutes before the end and try as it may just can't reel you back in. No matter how hard it tries, and believe me, it tries!. Maybe they added too much in when they should have raced to the ending, but there was just enough to take the edge of it. It's a shame really, but still worth seeing.
If you like Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, you might want to check out Moonrise Kingdom, it's the same type of music-boxy fantasy world with great acting and cute plot.
Recently watched a Taiwanese film called Starry Starry Night. Just incredible. An excellent (gentle) film about a girl growing up, living through her parents divorce. That may sound a little dull (and it's leisurely to be sure) but it's full of whimsical fantasy scenes for those who like snazzy visuals. It also has beautiful art design/CGI, which is as well integrated as any I have seen recently. One of those films where you wish more people would have the chance to see it, but you know it's unlikely.
