Avatar was okay. Not epic at all. The visuals were great but everything else about the movie lacked something, I don't know what but something... If it was made a long time ago with whatever James Cameon had in mind then, then maybe it would have been great, maybe. I'll give it a solid "C" On the other hand, The Last Airbender looks really promising. The trailers were awesome! Love Industrial Light and Magic, its a good thing they did the visuals. Stupid cocky James Cameron and his "film inventor" persona, Avatar should've been named in this movie.. Loved the show so I expect a lot from this movie. And of course M. Night has been awful lately (not to me) but his movies are pretty interesting; The Village and Lady in the Water, but not The Happening- that movie was horrible. As Oscar movie noms go. I would go with District 9. But it's either Avatar or The Hurt Locker that will probably win. Surprise movie to win- Inglourious Basterds.
If you like video games and haven't seen both Tron (1982) and The Wizard (1989) both films do a great job reflecting gaming in their respective eras. The Wizard is a goofy kids movie but if you like NES games you should at least give it a try, it's a feature length Nintendo ad. Also, Total Recall is the single greatest movie ever made.
You didn't like Avatar but Airbender looks promising? Interesting taste there. I do agree however, Avatar's only strong point was the graphics. Anyway, here's my favorites for the Oscars, since you all want to know: Best Picture- Tie btwn Hurt Locker/ Basterds Actor- George Clooney, Up in the Air Supporting Actor- Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds Actress- Meryl Streep Support Actress- Mo'Nique Animated- Fantastic Mr. Fox
The Wizard was a massive shill by Nintendo to market their Power Glove. It's more a glorified infomercial than a movie.
Yes, I do think it looks promising. The TV show was great, new story element too. James Cameron's Avatar had the same typical love story with effects that were added in to make it look epic. I don't think the movie is bad at all, it's just okay to me. I agree with most of the above picks for Oscars but I don't think George Clooney and Meryl Streep are going to win. More like Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock, though I haven't seen Crazy Heart.
The power glove, a a ton of NES games, Universal Studios and the American unvieling of Super Mario Bros. 3. Yes it was a corny ad but it's a great nostalgia trip, what other film has an NES game montage? "I love the power glove.. It's so bad."
Just saw Shutter Island... Not sure what to think of it tbh. I kind of liked it, but I dunno; the ending was predictable, but you weren't expecting it. Kind of confusing as well, 8/10.
Awww man, I really want to watch AVATAR (all my friends say it's amazing) but it's only 3D in my cinema and i'm half blind in one eye o it all looks weird. I'll wait till it comes out on DVD.
